If anybody has trouble remembering how wonderful it was to shop before big box stores and the corresponding helpless service took over the world, come by Fish World. Joe has assembled a very knowledgeable team that treats every customer as a valued one. They are extremely personable, will know you by name, and have great products. Yes, it can get busy sometimes. But the guys are working hard...they are consultants. Everyone entering the store has a laundry list of questions and "what if's" about their aquarium (which they have all memorized as well); but they spend quality time with each person. If you're in a hurry, you're probably in the wrong hobby anyway. And they are wonderful with kids. Mine love talking with the guys, helping them sort through new crabs and snails deliveries, and exploring the dozens and dozens of reefs/tanks in the store. This is certainly one the best, if not THE BEST, fish store in Richmond. Highly recommended. read more

I can't say enough good things about Fishworld. Joe and Cody are extremely knowledgeable and are so welcoming and helpful. Their prices are better than any of the other aquarium stores we have visited in Richmond, and it has been most of them. Their display aquariums will blow you away. We could spend the day each time we visit just looking at their displays, most entertaining of which is a 1200 gallon behemoth with a very funny wrasse as it's security guard. Atlantis is nice, but can't match Fishworld in price, quality or selection. Richmond aquariums is just flat awful, and the remaining stores fall somewhere in-between. If you truly are interested in the hobby and want the best, but not most expensive, then head to Fishworld! read more

Worst service I have ever experienced. The owner Joe will promise everything up until the point your credit card is billed, After you pay, expect nothing. Joe is unreliable. He often misses scheduled appointments (at least 20 times over the past 9 months). And he never notifies you when he can't make it or is late (usually 3-4 hours). He will say "I'm on my way" and then not show up. I spent over $20,000 and Joe is too busy to take care of my tank. Money aside, Joe is too pompous to realize that my time is just as valuable as his. He doesn't even seem to care about the fish and corals he sells. I had 7 fish/corals die within 24 hours of him putting them in my tank and he didn't show up for 4 weeks. I felt terrible watching these beautiful creatures die unnecessarily. Joe is always to busy. Yet every time I go into the store, Joe is ringing up customers at the cash register. Why can't Joe hire some people to help him at the store? Joe, for the sake of the beautiful living creatures you sell...Man Up & Show Up! read more

I stopped by with my daughter a few years ago to look at fish. The owner or employee had a dog wandering about. My daughter put her hand out to pet the dog and the dog bit her. No apology from the owner - said she shouldn't have petted him. She is a quiet, laid back child. Felt the owner should have warned her. Granted this was years ago but she is still traumatized by the event. If you know your dog bites, keep him away from customers! read more

I was really disappointed at the high prices. First, almost nothing is marked so you have to ask. A yellow tang was $60, normally $40 most places. A Ricordia mushroom on a tiny rock was $60, normally $15 to $30 anywhere else. There was a really nice Scoly that they had sold for $650 and those are typically $250 to $350 for high quality specimens. They do have a variety of corals and fishes. This place is it. Great help from knowledgeable staff. Friendly. Courteous. They go out of their way to help. Great atmosphere. Plenty of inventory. It would be hard to find better prices. They were even beating online prices. I am completely satisfied with them. They have become my LFS and I live 2 hours away from their location. read more
