This was my first time camping since I was a kid in Girl Scouts. The area was just beautiful. The site (63) was big enough for two cars, two tents, a hammock and two tables under a tailgate tent. There was a port-a-potty close by and a real bathroom with showers about a 4 minute walk. Staff cleaned the restroom often and the port-a-potty was well maintained. We rented bikes. Next time we will rent kayaks. There were hiking trails and lots of wildlife. It was a great time! read more

Not too far but far enough. Great campground with lots of sites. Laundry and showering facilities were very cleans lots of alligator to see, grab a kayak or a canoe and paddle the waterways. Seemed like all Sites had a fire pit and the store you were able to grab firewood for a small fee. Easy to find, beautiful drive out there. Very great trip. read more

Beautiful park with plenty of alligators to see in the lake . We were going to rent a canoe but when I saw those gators it was A hell no for me . I like at this park you can rent bikes and go on trails . There is camping and a nice little store . You can also go fishing .Glad I was able to see this park. read more

Been coming here every winter for the last 5 years! Amazing campground! Safe and clean facility. Camp sites are private! Book early and try to get a site on the creek. Caution there are a lot of alligators. Rent a canoe and go down the creek! They have good trails, and great fishing! Absolutely no complaints. Pretty cool creek to fish at. Group of friends and my wife and I went out here to fish today. Nature is awesome out here. Caught a small fish and got to feed it to a hawk. Hawk was watching us fish for a while so figured it was worth it since it had Patience and did not take out big catches. Very peaceful fishing spots along the Creek and stream. First time here for some of us. Great place to fish with friends or family. read more

I stayed here for three nights this past weekend and had a great time. I have been primitive camping several times before (throughout my childhood) so I am always on the look out for a new place to check out. My weekend was really nice and there are several things I liked about this place. Such as: Its a perfect place for a family, safe and well supervised by not only the park staff but the sheriffs officers as well, there are plenty of hiking trails, lake and creek are both pretty, canoe and kayak rentals, plenty of spots for fishing and hunting. Each lot that you rent comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring. So that is pretty convenient. The only thing that I didn't care for about this park is that the camping sites are so close together. My experiences camping have been pretty extensive so I when they said 'primitive' I expected something a little more well.. primitive. The last time I went camping I visited the Peace River where we were very secluded and really had a more live-off-the-land camping experience so I was kinda hoping for something like that. It was kinda like riding a bike with training wheels. lol Anyway the lots are about 10 yards by 20 and the next one is right beside you. But there are mostly families and boy scouts spending time there so no need to worry about anything weird happening. The lot we rented was $15 a night and two cars are allowed on each lot. But there is a free lot for any additional cars you may need to bring. FYI - E1 and E2 are right by the bathrooms/showers. All in all I wouldn't necessarily call it 'primitive' camping but it is a nice experience if you're just starting out camping and you want to get your feet wet but aren't ready for a full-out secluded camping adventure. read more

I wasn't really impressed with this at the time, but in hind sight, it was one of the better stays! The thing that brings my rating down from four stars would be the highway noise. If it weren't for the raccoons in the dumpster by my site at night, and the traffic noise, this would be a five star campground. The staff here are really nice, and it was a pretty comfortable stay, with one exception. At night, there were something like 15 raccoon's fighting and having a party in the dumpster next to our sight. It was a little unsettling... Location: The park is really nice, with the caveat that it is right next to route 27, which is a main highway. The bathrooms: The bathrooms in the RV section were really clean, and nice. The bathrooms in the area underneath the canopy of Live Oaks, attached to the washer and dryer are not as nice, but adequate. The tent area: In the back of the campground, with spots right up next to the creek, are some very nice spots under a complete canopy of Live Oaks with spanish moss hanging from them. It is a very nice area! The Swimming Area: At the northern side of the campground back a short road, are more tenting areas next to a swimming lake, with a rope swing. Been going to the creek since "84" it's been a yearly thing since then with about 30 friends, it's a great place to camp with friends and now family. Aleatory to get on the creek sites 11-16 it's so convenient for fishing and just so relaxing. I've seen a lot of changes here and it's for the better, definitely will continue to camp here as long as it open. read more

Kids had so much fun. Park is beautiful. Atmosphere so relaxing. The Cemex plant is just north of this place the trucks driving and grinding and beeping and dumping all nighy long. Horroble horroble noise pollution is terrible. I would highly recommed this place but with that noise plant next door its your choice. Staff are extremely friendly and polite. read more

We were here last weekend with our Cub Scout Pack 312 out of Miami for our "spring Campout" in spite of the 45 degree weather! This is the 2nd time we have been here and our pack family loved it. The grounds are nice and clean. We saw the staff keeping the Bathhouse/Rest rooms clean at 8pm as well as during the day. It has just enough conveniences without spoiling the camping experience. The water pressure dropped our 1st night there but the staff had it working in the AM. The one negative was the ranger came around our site to remind us of the quite time policy, which was perfectly acceptable, but there was a VERY noisy group in the camp sites across from us until wee hours in the morning, and we never saw the ranger again. The staff at the front outpost were very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy. Considering we were about 100 people, some very new to tent camping, they got everyone checked in smoothly.The lake is beautiful. We stayed with a few other family's, after most of our pack left and our boys really enjoyed the scenery fishing and the rope swing in to the lake! It was wonderful! read more

I love what you can do here (camp, canoe, birdwatch, hike, watch wildlife, take a dip in the lake, swing from a rope). I wish there were more places like this one in Florida. However, if you have kids and are camping, read this review. We were never warned that people are allowed to blast music till 11 o'clock at night. If you are in a tent and you have little kids, this really makes bedtime impossible. This place is just not for families, unless you are in an RV and you can close the door. Second thing making it impossible to sleep is the six lane highway what seems like away from the tent lots, and within line of sight. Why they assign tent camping areas a few feet from a very busy highway is hard to understand. They should really warn people with kids about that too. You definitely get the sense that the place is unique (as most of Florida is paved over) read more
