But that's not why. Why? I'll tell you. Gladly. Two years ago, the 3 yr old fell down and hit his front tooth which was bleeding and just hanging there. Dr. Jaeger came in (it was a weekday evening) and immediately attended to him. Last week, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, my son-in-law chipped both front teeth. Dr. Jaeger could have been playing golf, or fishing, or reading a book, or just relaxing, but...he drove in and immediately fixed the teeth. I don't know (technically) what you call it, but from my standpoint, he fixed it. On a Saturday. Want to know why we all (3 generations) go to Dr. Jaeger? Simple, really. He treats us like family. Dr. Fred Jaeger is an excellent healthcare professional. He's knowledgeable, stays up-to-date on the latest advancements in dentistry, and is comfortable with stating when we should get second opinions on conditions and procedures. Never any upselling or shaming about one's appearance, the entire team here is excellent and respectful. They even go out of their way to contact you outside of business hours to make sure you're feeling okay and answer any questions that may have occurred to you after your appointment. I said I had to leave for work by 3 and my appointment was for 2. The receptionist said first visits were 90 minutes. That information would be handy to know when I made the initial appointment, but it was not mentioned on the site of in any of the many confirmation emails I had received. Finally she went back to check with the hygienist. When she came out, she said they would be ready soon. By this time, we were 26 minutes into my appointment so I was trying to figure out if I would be able to even get in a cleaning. Trying to decide if I should stay or go, I said to the receptionist that I was really looking for just a short cleaning and exam with no treatments or xrays, thinking I could just get in the basics and still get to work on time. But before I could finish, she cut me off and told me to "tell it to the hygienist". Finally the hygienist came out. By this time I didn't think I could stay for an appointment at all. As we walked back, I explained to Char that I had to leave in half an hour. Again, I was told new patient visits were 90 minutes. By this point it wouldn't matter anyway since it took almost 30 minutes just to get into a room. But it would have been great if they would tell us this in advance. When I explained I only wanted a cleaning and a brief exam, no xrays, Char had to get the Dentist. Dr. Sido came out and asked why I would not consent to xrays, I explained that several years ago my other dentist had agreed that I only needed them every 2 -3 years. My teeth are straight and my wisdom teeth are fine. In 57 years I have only ever had a couple small fillings. I also do xray s for a living and want to limit my exposure to radiation. Plus, some of the most radiation sensitive tissues in the body are the eyes and the thyroid, both of which are exposed in dental xrays. Dr. Sido to said he would refuse service to me unless I consented to xrays because he found it unacceptable that I wanted xrays only if needed or every couple years of so. I had to leave without finding a new dentist for my family. By this time we had spent so much time messing around I would never been able to even get a cleaning in. But all is for the best. I completely dodged a bullet here for both my husband and I. I don't think I could ever trust these folks. With a town full of good dentists, I encourage you to pass this chain over for one that allows you to make your own decisions about your care without being strong armed into having unjustified add ons especially radiation. Sadly, on the Forwad Dental's patient Bill of Rights posted on their website, it clearly states a patient has the right to refuse any form of treatment unless required by law. I'm pretty sure a patient with no dental symptoms and perfectly straight teeth with almost no fillings is not required by law to have xrays. In fact, a good dentist would not expose you to radiation for no reason. Clearly these folks are after your wallet. If the cannot force you to pay for unnecessary add ons, they refuse to treat you.

WARNING : Money driven (Ryan) over quality patient care - not to mention Ryan resorts to "used car…read moresalesman" style tactics, fake care & concern to begin with, later: false urgency, dishonesty and manipulation to pressure. The cleaning was fine, the dentist was okay - a bit terse at times but she is serious about her work which I appreciate. Coty, the dental assistant is lovely in person but she didn't properly seat a temporary crown which caused me a LOT of pain. I phoned the office a few days in because something wasn't right, expressing I'd never had this much pain with any other dental care AND that I could see a visible gap around the bottom of the temporary crown. Ryan told me it was normal to have pain and sensitivity for up to 10 days and while "they care and put patients first" he assured me that it was normal. At the point of inability to sleep, pain through the roof, begrudgingly Ryan finally allowed me to come in prior to the scheduled appointment. Turns out it was a bad temporary crown, with a big gap. Not to mention, infection set in. Where it all went very wrong from there (as if the above wasn't enough): 1). It turns out they never made sure my records were forwarded from the VA in Madison. Surprise to me: the tooth they'd prepped for a crown was allocated for a root canal with caused amplified pain. THEN... 2) I was exposed to COVID by my neighbor's daughter. As per VA Madison instructions, I had to go in for COVID testing and quarantine. This meant that the root canal had to be delayed until after quarantine & it would change the appointment with Downtown Family Dental of Baraboo. 3). Ryan insisted the CDC had changed procedures to 3-5, insisted I make contact with the Endodontist to keep my appointment as scheduled so that everyone could stay on track. 4) The endodontist was not on board with Ryan's thinking AND the CDC had a full 5 day quarantine... not 3-5 days. I left a voicemail informing DFD of Baraboo asking them to cancel the appointment. Didn't hear back from them. 5) When I phoned to reschedule, I was told they'd kept the appointment as was and to show up. We got into a mini argument about the fact that they know I was to wait at least a week post root canal. I even asked if they'd made the crown already. I was informed "no" that it would be made when I arrived **this is important and comes into play in a moment. Phoned the endodontist to confirm. Phoned back to DFD of Baraboo & Ryan wasn't successful arguing with me, was obviously angry and snapped at me asking "Then when do you want to come in PAMELA?" I told Ryan I would not be returning. He said "Fine. I'll let the VA know." 6) Fairly quickly, I received a letter in the mail. Please view the attached to see what this guy, Ryan, had to say. He comes off as breaking ties with me as a patient. AND they made a mouth guard device that I expressly told them I did NOT want because I haven't had success with them in the past. I'd already phoned the VA Madison dental team about these occurrences and the admin absolutely agreed these were not healthy practices. The head of referrals heard from Ryan who conveyed "a different perspective" - which will be a separate matter. I don't know about you, but my health and being able to trust that a provider (or who they're chosen face) is above board and placing patient care first is vital. Absolutely would not recommend.

Also, I had to wear SUNGLASSES during a regular cleaning, which I suppose makes sense when your hygienist cannot control her equipment and knows she will be spraying you with water. Overall, the experience was terrible. The place looks run down, the equipment is outdated, and the hygienist is clumsy.

I'm really glad I did, as I needed work done and they've been great every time. I've had a couple appointments, and I've left more impressed each time. The staff is open and friendly, and you have their full attention. It's a smaller office and a little busier for it, in a way that reminds me of the small town I grew up in, but I never felt even slightly ignored. They were prompt, they paid attention to my questions and requests, and they were really wonderful about talking and working with me to get me the best of what I needed and what I wanted. Personally, I rather enjoyed that they offered sunglasses to wear during the appointment, as it's much easier and less stressful than dealing with a potential migraine from too much too bright light. The dental hygienist, Susan, is incredibly kind and thorough. Dr. Lubet has more than once happily given a little extra time and work to worrisome trouble spots. All in all, I dropped in on a whim, and found myself being listened to, being worked with, feeling comfortable and accommodated, and actually pretty sure that I'm in good hands. I wasn't expecting it, but it's pretty great to keep leaving a place happy and reassured you haven't done any damage that can't be made healthier with a bit of help. My experiences have been consistently excellent, and I highly recommend Middleton Family Dental.
