My friend and I wandered around the lobbies checking out this month's art work: a local artist had gone to Mexico to cover the Day of the Dead festivals. The artist had photographs, paintings, and drawings of what she saw and experienced. The facility was easy to get around with a grand staircase as well as elevators. Central Indiana Interstates, highways, and surface streets are rife with intersections, exits, and…read moregeneral traffic management that make no sense. As one of many bad consequences I believe that Indiana drivers have evolved into some the worse in the country. Exit five on I-69 is one the most poorly designed striped and signed interchanges that I have ever seen. Indiana highway engineers consistently fail to grasp and implement the concept of utilizing as much of the road capacity for as much distance as possible. They don't seem to know how to implement more than one-lane exit ramps. INDOT does not effectively manage merge points. This stretch of road has been under construction for about four of the last six years and they can't get it right. They keep adding lanes and then they fail to use the extra capacity. The southbound traffic from both IN-37 and I-69 is funneled into a short bottleneck where the traffic is forced to criss-cross in a pathological manner with outlets to 116th Street and I-69 south. Where the road requires the most capacity, there's a single lane and two lanes where there's less traffic. Northbound is just as bad. The traffic and highway engineers INDOT force all of the 116th Street AND IN-37 traffic into a single lane and it allows through IN-69 full use of ALL FOUR lanes. They can easily reserve two lanes for the exit and direct the though traffic to the two left lanes. The recent lane addition on the southbound ramp actually has made this exit more treacherous than before. The lane addition for northbound I-69 has not relieved any of the congestion because they have failed to sign and stripe it correctly. The exiting traffic backs up to 96th street and it encourages dangerous behaviors due to the ineptitude of the design. This whole thing is a disaster and it is indicative of INDOT's ineptitude in all things. They ought to spend some time in Kentucky where the road striping and exits make for smooth traffic flows. Traffic on IN-37 southbound and I-69 northbound always dangerously backs up into intersections one and two miles respectively in the upstream directions because they have failed to effectively use the lane capacity.

I'm a disabled veteran and I can always use the help when trying to make sense of how my property tax is determined and what is deductible. The Indiana legislature just modified how deductions are calculated for disabled veterans and honestly I was not able to discern how the modification affected me. They took the time to explain the changes and that made all the difference. I only hope someone in that office sees this review and tells the others. My experience being called for jury duty was fine. The people who work here are very professional and efficient. The building itself is beautiful. If you do have to serve on a jury and spend some time here, there are lots of restaurant options to choose from. I ended up being dismissed before lunch. Keep in mind that they don't allow you to park outside of the courthouse itself. There's a free parking garage a block away at which jurors are instructed to park. I would add an additional 10 minutes to your trip to find parking and walk to the courthouse. It's not far away, but there's a traffic light that takes a while. Also keep in mind: Before you enter the courthouse, you have to walk through a body scanner and empty your pockets. It's very easy but also kind of a pain, but I guess it's necessary in these strange and unpredictable times.

This is a small, but well done tribute to Gold Star families. It was dedicated in May 2021 and…read morehonors the families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military. It costed about $60,000 to build. There are not many such monuments or memorials dedicated to that group. It consists of two benches to sit and reflect, a nice sculpture and a dedication plaque. The memorial is located right in front of Fisher's City Hall and is easy to get to. There is free street parking in the vicinity of the memorial and a free lot with a few spots behind city hall. The sculpture is the center piece of the memorial. It is a 4 granite slab panels and was made by by the Louisville-based Woody Williams Foundation. Two panels with a cutout silhouette of a solder rendering a hand salute, along with the gold-etched words, "Gold Star Families Memorial Monument" with a large gold star above it on the first panel and "A Tribute to on the second panel." The third panel has "Gold Star Families and Relative" etched in it. The fourth and final panel has "who sacrificed a loved one for our Freedom. The opposite side of the sculpture is adorned with the words: Homeland, Family Patriot, and Sacrifice, respectively. and has nice pictures of a flag folding, and serviceman's funeral, Iwo Jima flag raising, and a couple of other photos. I really loved the photos. They are very fitting and nice. On this side is where you will also find the dedication plaque on the ground. There are two granite benches, one is dedicated to USAF Vet William Fehribach and the other has a picture of an American Flag with a soaring eagle in the lower left hand corner. It is sponsored by Freedom Mortgage and has the phrase "Serving Those Who Serve our Nation" on it. This is a nice place to reflect and pay respects to those members of the Armed Forces that made the ultimate sacrifice. There are not many memorials or monuments dedicated to Gold Star families. There are less than 90 nationwide. The Woody Williams foundation has made these monuments in all 50 states and Guam. The front of each monument is the same, but they personalized the reverse side to suit each respective community. Great job Fishers for taking part in this and making this happen.

This is a very small but nice memorial park located of the Central Green in front of Fisher's City…read moreHall. It was built in 2011 and is a memorial that features a monument dedicated to those who have served in the armed forces and is the home to our annual Memorial Ceremony. Around the base of the monument you will find the logos of all the uniformed services and Fisher's Police and Fire Departments. They each lead to one of the points on the six-point star that the monument sits on. There are benches in the area for visitors to sit and reflect. The monument itself has different sized granite slabs with stars on the and the tallest one having an eagle on top of it and the inscription, "Liberty Plaza, Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land, Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof." The monument sits in a functional fountain, which is laid upon the six point star. The city holds its annual Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies here. There is a decent amount of free parking on streets near the Plaza and there is a parking garage nearby. This place is very well maintained and nicely done. This is a good stop to make if you are in the area, but I would probably not make it a destination stop. So, to all the veterans and public servants out there, thank you for your service.
