If you have a choice and have the willingness to travel, go to the West Marine on NorthBound Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda just over the bridge. The associates are more knowledgeable and the inventory is much greater and more varied.

Maybe we are not the boating community I thought we were. Further, I can't believe when someone leaves a review for West Marine, and they complain that it is pricey. It's a specialty store, they have what you need and they have it here in your community. Get over the price! Finally, went to the store in Punta Gorda yesterday. It was staffed by two children. I know, makes me sound like an old guy, which I am, but still these two very young people with absolutely zero boating knowledge provided absolutely zero help. At least the young man stayed to listen to me ask questions which he couldn't answer, while the young woman simply walked away as I approached. I have been to West Marine stores that were a wealth of knowledge and real asset to the boating community. Yesterday, this wasn't one of them.

The owner Jeff greeted me right away and then spent the next 30 minutes asking questions and listening to me as I told him where I was fishing (off the dock) and checking out the rod and reel I had been using. He was patient and took his time with me even when another customer came in. He set me up with the correct fishing line , hooks and lures. He even took the time to show me how to correctly tie the right knots to tie for the lines. He even gave me his card with the phone number in case I had any future questions. Supporting locals businesses is crucial and I can promise you that I won't buy anything related to fishing anywhere but Captain Ted's Tackle. That's a promise.

My wife (Denise) and I have been full time Florida residents for a bit more than 3 years. We learned of Fishin Franks from the papers and are glad we did. We retired here from Brainerd Minnesota, living on the Mississippi river. Even though we fished all our lives there, we knew there would be differences we needed to know. I remember the first time we visited the store to start getting our fishing needs and perhaps a start of some "smarts", we spent damn nearly 3 hours in the shop with constant help from one of the guys there--it was the best 3 hours spent ever learning stuff. From that point on, I have NEVER bought fishing equipment anywhere else. All our rods and reels come from there as do all our tackle needs. The people there are more than happy to help anyone and do so without making you seem like an idiot -- very nice team of employees. We do take advantage of their knowledge and also there monthly seminars which we enjoy a lot. Robert has become a "go to" guy that I have no problems with asking even the (what I may think) dumbest questions. So.........whatever your needs or whatever your questions, go to F.F. , they will help you! P/S---I had a gift card to Bass Pro from Christmas so I went and bought a drift sock. Don't waste you time with this business location in North Fort Myers. Called them on a Saturday and inquired about some fishing rods. They indicated they would have them sent down from their Port Charlotte store and would have them by Tuesday. I indicated to put my name on them for which I provided my name and phone number. I drove 40 minutes one way on the next Wednesday to purchase them. Not only did they not have the items, the individual had no recollection or notes to my conversation even after making several calls including to the owner and Port Charlotte store. But of course, they have several other "like" items they would be happy to show and sell you. Typical, bait and switch tactics to make a sale. Not even a "I'm sorry". Use your discretion with this business and do not believe any information they provide to you over the phone. Have them send you a current photo first before you waste your time and gas money to drive to North Fort Myers. Use Anderson's on McGregor in Fort Myers for al your fishing needs. read more

What a pleasant surprise. This is a great tackle store. Prices are very competitive and they had everything I needed to meet my fishing needs. The staff is very knowledgeable and happy to assist. The short ugly redneck presumed to be "owner" was incredibly rude and patronizing. We didn't ask any questions or advice and he gave us the most degrading conversation like we did something wrong. You think after almost losing your business due to a fire you'd be a little bit kinder. Please shop elsewhere. This small business does not deserve to stay open. read more
