Greg was our instructor. I have been diving for 20 plus years. Greg was by far the best instructor I have ever had. My boyfriend and I learned things we had never known. Greg was extremely thorough, extremely patient, very level headed, and we had a good couple of laughs! I received major bonus points for my boyfriend to decide to sign us up for this refresher ;) . We are both very comfortable in the water, but realized how beneficial it was to review our water skills. David was extremely communicative via my e-mail questions. I had some questions. David would reply within the hour. Just an over all amazing experience. I will be sticking with scuba shack!

There was very nice feel to the trail almost as a brief escape to the city. It feels very safe as it's in a neighborhood but once you start walking it feels like you are just out in nature. Easy to navigate if you needed a wheel chair and stroller after the beginning part which for some odd reason has dips in the concrete but after that it's very smooth sailing.

Protecting San Antonio from floods since the WPA, this giant monolith is a gem!…read more It's a beautiful big park along the front of the dam, with trees, and a place to watch the water come through the flood gates. You can go behind the dam, if you walk along the walking path, there's a stairway down. If you follow the path, you can go to the hangout behind the dam, where you can drink and go nuts! There's all kinds of wildlife in there, I'm sure... Coyotes, hawks, turtles. There's a tunnel that goes through the dam, if you climb through the flood gates, and climb up the last wall on the south. The tunnel is quite freaky, and there's graffiti in there from the 50's! Falcons! The tunnel is completely dark, so bring a flashlight. Wear old clothes if you go exploring behind the dam, surprise, it can be a bit muddy!

5 Stars for its history!…read more Wish I could remember all that our NPS tour guide explained to us. What I do remember the guide saying it's the only Ranch of its kind left in the world, although the details on that claim have escaped my memory. Also none of what the 1936 historical marker is true but they leave it as it's historical maker in itself... which I find a little more hysterical than historical. The mounds in the area that I have many pictures of, are of the original Mission walls that were covered up to preserve them. In the center where the marker is located, is where the church would have stood. Mission Rancho de las Cabras is only open to public a few times a year. I joined a group from Yelp for an Unofficial Yelp Event to meet up and explore together. Although I arrived late, I arrived just in time for the archeological and history tour which is exactly why I wanted to head out there in the first place. I have been enjoying my history lessons of the local missions that I've been on lately. This really is more of a just an old Texas ranch more than anything else. It's great for some that have never had a chance to be on a ranch before plus the historic value of the ranch itself. I hope the best for the NPS keeping the ranch preserved for future generations.

Before visiting I kept reading articles about how it was a "forgotten World Heritage gem" and now I understand. As I write this review and reflect on my visit, I'm feeling a bit sad. I mean, I am glad to have had the opportunity to finally make it to an event when it's open (only open twice this year), and I really enjoyed the three tours I went on learning about birds, the architecture, grounds, etc... but it's so sad that there is much work to be done to preserve and restore this historic site, and yet there is no funding, no resources, and no solutions. Ruins buried (literally) and forgotten.

The Apache Creek Greenway trail stretches a very short .75 miles between Commerce Street and…read moreGeneral McMullen. If you want more room to walk or ride, it connects to the walkways around nearby Elmendorf Lake Park and then on to other greenway trails on the southern end of Elmendorf Lake. The greenway trail is all paved, about 10 feet wide and in pretty good shape. Good for taking a stroll, bike riding, or walking Fido. There are several outdoor workout stations along the .75 miles that are also in good shape still. The trail was clean and obviously followed along the banks of Apache Creek. No water fountains and the whole trail is in the sun. Water fountains are available in nearby Elmendorf Lake Park though.
