One month before surgery date, I asked again when we would find out if insurance covered it and office staff assured me, "they usually do...you should be fine." I was told I would receive my surgery time the day before (surgery was Monday, so Friday should have been my call). Didn't hear back from the office. Got a call from the surgery center 2 weeks before: they said everything looked good and I should be getting said confirmation on Friday. Never heard from them Friday. Worried bc of the approaching surgery with no time, called the office wondering what was going on. Received a call back around 7pm "I'm sorry, your insurance didn't approve it..." Office staff said they "tried calling and left a message " which in this day and age of technology is a wild thing to suggest: No voicemails, no missed calls. I don't appreciate being gaslit. They could have emailed, called my emergency contact, sent me a letter in the mail (like they did for my new patient package). All of that to say: I'm so glad I didn't go under the surgeon's knife if they can't even handle paperwork and keeping people informed.

We have taken two teens this year for wisdom teeth removal and were very happy with our experience…read morefor both the consultations and surgeries. The staff was fantastic with their scheduling, reminders and follow up. The insurance processing was made easy and we were told the amount due (after insurance) at the consultation. We had an update from our insurance and they quickly emailed us a new estimate. They were always friendly, efficient and professional. Given the great staff I was surprised by the less than stellar reviews. They mostly seem to be about the doctor's "bedside manner." ....He did seem to come across with an unusually high air of self confidence. It was noticeable. But he was nothing but pleasant, kind and patient explaining the procedure and answering any question during all of our appointments. The whole office seems to run very smooth and efficiently, but when I had questions/concerns or my kid kids were anything less than comfortable they slowed everything down and gave us as much time and attention as we needed.

I am honestly so shocked that this practice has good reviews. I went here a while back to get my…read morewisdom teeth taken out. The consultation went pretty well and everybody seemed fine then. Come the day of the surgery, and my mom had driven me to the office. While talking to the surgeon, he just seemed very full of himself, And way too cocky about the procedure. Just not really something you want in a doctor. Although, supposedly my wisdom teeth were incredibly hard to get out, so that humbled him a bit. The real issue came after. Honestly part of this is kind of on me, because I should've done more research on finding an office that provides narcotics after surgery. I have a very low pain tolerance, stomach issues that give me constant nausea, and allergies to several antibiotics. All a very bad combination for surgery. This office does not believe in prescribing narcotics after a procedure, which I understand in some situations. However, all four of my teeth had to be extracted, with two being impacted and the others being very deep and difficult to get to. To say the least, it was not a pleasant surgery or recovery. I had full-blown surgery and the doctor did not give me the proper pain medication for it. After only a day and a half, I started vomiting constantly due to the pain. My parents called the doctor and asked for a prescription for Zofran to stop the vomiting and my nausea, because it was going to make me rip my stitches out. However, this man out right refused because I am on an antidepressant that has a very slim chance of negatively reacting with Zofran. Never mind the fact that I was vomiting blood and couldn't eat or drink anything, or that my general practitioner signed off on it. When addressed in person at the post surgery appointment, the doctor made it sound like my mom was at fault for not calling him back and telling him how bad it was. I truly wish I could've had a better experience here. I hope they've improved since my visit, for the sake of their patients. TLDR: This doctor does not care about his patients wellbeing. He acts very cocky and does not listen to his patient's concerns and issues.

Thinking it must have been an accidental disconnection, surely a professional medical office wouldn't be that incredibly rude, my wife called back. She wanted to clarify if perhaps there was a misunderstanding, or if a specific provider within the practice did accept our insurance. Instead of a brief conversation, she was immediately hung up on for a second time. This was not a fluke. This was deliberate, hostile, and utterly unprofessional. The level of disrespect and arrogance displayed by this staff is absolutely astounding. I do not understand how a business like this stays operating, though in a place like Calvert, they likely only survive because patients have so few other options. Even if we decided to pay completely out of pocket, I would never, under any circumstances, patronage this clinic. If this is how they treat people over a simple phone inquiry, I dread to think how they treat patients under actual medical care. Do yourself a favor and find a clinic that possesses basic human decency and professional standards.

Johnson keeps me waiting almost 30 minutes past my appointment time. When I walk back to get my BP checked and weigh-in, her medical assistant seemed really irritable and handed me a bunch of pamphlets about "hysterectomy." She leave me in the room for an additional 10-15 minutes and finally Johnson walks in. Johnson was very abrupt. She reviewed or should I say "skimmed" over my medical records from the previous visit and asked had I read over the pamphlets. I said, "No not really, but since I'm sitting her with a live medical professional, I figure I'd just ask you the questions that I have." She says, "Well, have you had any children?" I'm looking at her like why is this even relevant and reply, "Never been pregnant, never had children." Without even looking up, she says, "I know you want to get the hysterectomy done laparoscopically, but you are not a candidate for that. You've never had children and so the only way to do your hysterectomy is to do the "smiley face." She was stoic, she didn't even look me in the eye. In that moment, I knew that she was full of bullsh!t, and yet, I allowed her to continue to see how far she would actually go. She also went on to say that because my uterus was too large (10cm), it could not come out of my vagina (by the way, that is not how robotic surgery is performed) because my cervix had never been dilated enough due to me never having children. She said that I had a lot to think about and I needed go home, read the stupid pamphlets that she gave me and make the best decision. This was probably the best advice she gave during our entire visit. I didn't need to do any research to know that Johnson was full of sh!t. I expected so much more from her especially as a woman. Upon walking out of her office, I knew that it was the last time that I would ever be a patient in that office and I am writing this review to warn other women. I wish I had been warned. You see, not every doctor goes that extra mile and goes back to get the schooling and training that it takes to get into robotic surgery. Instead of saying," Hey I don't have those tools in my toolbox," she ill-informed me. She told me that I was not a candidate for the surgery which was a bold-faced lie. Yes, doctor's lie too, especially when they are too embarrassed to admit that they are performing major medical procedures in an antiquated way. She is an old school "doctor" that is probably really good a delivering babies, however, if you have any major GYN issues, please look somewhere else. Her toolbox is very limited and instead of admitting that, she'll make it seem like you are not a candidate for state of the art, top of the line treatment. She'll try to convince you that her outdated ways of practice are the only way. Fast update: The day after my nightmare visit with Johnson, I went home, got on my lovely laptop and begin googling away. After a full day of searching, I was able to secure one of the BEST surgeons in the area at John Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Not only did she advise me that I was a perfect candidate for the procedure, after very thorough in person and video consultations went in and had the procedure 5 days ago ( 12/10/2020) I can't say enough amazing things about this doctor/woman. She gave me back my quality of life. After 5 days, I'm walking around, I don't need to take any narcotics and I feel amazing. NO MORE PAIN. GET A SECOND, THIRD AND FOURTH OPINION WHEN IT COME TO YOUR HEALTH. These doctors/medical professionals are not all created equal and this experience has driven that home for me. I am so happy that I trusted my gut, and walked away from Michelle Johnson and never looked back!!!
