I have a membership at a corporate gym in the Phoenix area, which I do love. However, it lacks some equipment I prefer and gets too busy. I was recommended by a friend to try Fitness 1 due to the quality of equipment as well as the old school atmosphere. The communication with Chad prior to visiting was great. He welcomed me when I came in and showed me around the gym, explaining how it was laid out and where I can find certain pieces of equipment. This included equipment like the pendulum squat, which can't be found in most commercial gyms. He also showed me where much of the power lifting equipment was and even discussed the childcare. I spent the next 90 minutes using amazing equipment such as Rogue, Precor, and my personal favorite, Arsenal. The culture in the gym was great. Everyone was working towards their own personal goals, all while supporting and assisting each other. They were even being spotters for others in the gym who they did not know, but supported nevertheless. Other gymgoers were not playing on their phones or hanging out in the gym, showing they were all there for a reason. After a good 90 minute workout, I went back and spoke to Chad. I told him I wanted to get a membership, paying for an entire year up front. Chad was able to do all this without pressuring me at all, which seems to be uncommon in the gym world. He lets the gym and the culture the staff at Fitness 1 has created, along with others in the gym, sell the product. All of this came with no hidden fees, which is just icing on the cake. Fitness 1 is a hidden "gym" in the fitness industry. It is an example of what all gyms should be and should be mirrored. read more

The amount of equipment, the cleanlienss, and the quality people who train here is fantastic. I always feel comfortable, welcome, and fired up when I am training. This is a great family owned gym. I do not feel judged because I am over weight. Instead I am greeted warmly and they have personal trainers for all types of fitness. If anyone in the valley is looking for a new gym or to get going, I 100% recommend Fitness One. If you're looking for a place to do cardio twice a year, is fancy, and superficial, I would say try another place. But if you're looking for a gym full of motivated, friendly, helpful, and independent people, check out Fitness One. They're locations are fairly simple, which is nice. Both employees and members are usually down to talk nutrition, workouts, and just cool stuff. Price is great. I asked the manager if there was any way to bring my monthly payments down, and after chatting for a bit, he brought it down by $4 after I already got a great deal when I signed up about a year ago. Update - Fitness 1 is still charging my boyfriend. He has canceled his membership multiple times and they have still charged him for months. He finally had to get his bank involved and the gym on a three way call. The fraud rep tried to confirm is it was canceled and the rep from the gym basically played dumb insisting it has been canceled. Last resort the bank had to put a stop payment on the charges. A month goes by and the gym literally emailed the charges of a late gyms fees and a returned item fee.......This establishment is complete joke. Well maintained, custom equipment, friendly staff, and clean environment! There are always two sides to every coin: a reward or a punishment. Covid-19 was nothing but challenging on many fronts, but, a reward of the pandemic is the closing of "big box" gyms I had previously sought out to maintain my physique at. On the verge of a mental breakdown "sheltering in place" alone, a friend recommended I check out Fitness1 Gym 35th and Union Hills. I met Chad and was given a tour of the facility. While it certainly isn't the largest facility, every square inch, is utilized to the benefit of US (the members). There are so many "cool" pieces of equipment that are older and you won't find in the new gym chains. While the equipment is older, you'd never know it by mechanical wear - each cable, resistance, and plate loaded machine well cared for. Lubricated, pads refaced, etc. The best part of the facility is the family there - if you are a stranger, well you won't be for long. You'll be accepted as part of our family; where judgments aren't passed, heavy lifting is encouraged, and results are complimented. If you read all this, what the hell are you waiting for? They closed one of their locations and sold the accounts to another gym without notifying members ahead of time. I didn't even find out until I called them about something unrelated. No email, no call, no letter to state that they were selling my account to a totally different business, and they transferred my billing information without notice or approval. read more

I love this gym!!! Let me tell you why... EVERYONE (and I mean everyone) is so friendly there. The trainers especially (*cough* Maya Papaya and Tony). Even though they aren't getting paid by you, they still help any time that they notice your form is off and correct you. The owner, Chad, always says "good morning" to everyone he sees. The cute little front desk gal, Sophia...I think, is sweet as can be, very smart, and can answer all your questions. They have some of the best equipment I have ever seen and all of them work like new. To top it off, they have a handy vending machine with protein shakes that you can grab on your way out, along with super cute merch. It's not as clean or as fancy as the other gyms, but honestly... I called to inquire about a one day pass. They said sure and it was only $10. I got there, only had a $20 Bill. They didn't have change. They said no prob, keep your money, just have a good workout. They still provided a personal tour, I noticed a very clean facility and that they worked very hard to provide a clean and safe place. Very friendly and welcoming! The atmosphere is great for staying focused and getting a great workout. Everyone who workouts out there is actually dedicated to training, and not focusing on being creepy or too concerned on how many selfies they can get. Pretty low key not too packed even during peak hours of the day, so you aren't constantly waiting for equipment like most other gyms. Don't go here. They have terrible business practices and no customer service skills whatsoever. If you come to any of them with an issue, you are greeted with a terrible "I don't actually care" attitude. And then you get to argue with them for months to get your issue fixed.
