After trying to arrange a meet up with a new trainer named Cameron I successfully had my first session with him and it went swimmingly well. He's super knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and definitely taskmaster in the best of ways. For the second time in two weeks, the Indoor Cycle instructor did not show up for the scheduled Class. This one was 1/2/26 9:00AM, 5 people were waiting in the spin room, I sat there for 30 minutes with no word from Blake. This time I got a notice of the class cancellation 1 Hr and 20 minutes "after" the class start time. In my previous review for the same reason, about two weeks ago, the cancellation email came 2 days after the class was scheduled. I never did get a response from the owner for that review and I suspect there will be none this time either. This time I talked to Blake directly who did not even know a class was scheduled. He told me if I sat on the couch and waited, he would get back to me shortly. Get a manager who gives a crap about customer service. I love the trainers, I love the staff, but I don't love the black mold in the group fitness room. It took a year to get them to fix the leaking roof, but now we're left with black mold on the ceiling. They say, "we've put a work order in," but it's been months With nothing but growing mold. This gym makes canceling your membership extremely difficult. They advertise that cancellations are easy, but that has not been my experience at all. I have canceled multiple times and followed every step they asked for, yet they continue to charge my bank account. The employees are completely unhelpful and don't seem to care about resolving the issue. I have asked to speak with managers multiple times, and that has been just as useless. I've spoken with several managers who repeatedly reassured me that my membership was canceled, yet the charges continued and nothing was ever actually done. Despite my attempts to cancel, I have been charged for the past four years. These unauthorized charges now total over $400. At this point, my next step will be contacting a lawyer and pursuing action to recover the fraudulent charges. I strongly recommend thinking twice before signing up here. If you ever decide to leave, canceling your membership may turn into a long and frustrating and expensive process. read more

Pros: -close to Trader Joe's -most of the staff is really friendly and welcoming -affordable Cons: - compared to other fitness 19's that are updated and nice, this place is a total wreck! It's almost like this place gets no attention. - the place is falling apart and really outdated (see pics). Equipment , walls , bathrooms (gross!) are just not well maintained. -I wish the owner would invest in taking this place out of the dark ages! -poor gym etiquette, esp when the high school kids flood the place and hang out for social hour -people try to "save" machines it's irritating - at times VERY poor ventilation. When I'm working out on the treadmill or bike I do not want political propaganda bombarding me. Why not have channels of folks working out (in a gym, running, swimming, healthy food channels). I got a gym membership here a few years ago for when I visit family in the area. It was $10 so figured for the mediocre gym it is, I wouldn't mind paying. Mind you, I have not gone or attempted to go since august 2022. A few month ago, my card on filed was cancelled because I reported that card lost. Did I receive many voicemails and phone calls telling me to set up a new card? Yes. Are gyms notorious for their obnoxious marketing? Yes, so ignored it. Today I received an email saying they sent me to collections and I owe $150. The collections company says the gym must receive formal cancellation which was why I am now in collections. So for not paying for let's say 6 months ($60 I owe), these greedy assholes want to collect over double? Had I been using the facility regularly (or at all), I see why you send me to collections, but I haven't worked out in that teenage boy infested gym in over a year. And they could've sent me to collections way sooner than they did. Should I have cancelled? Sure. Is this money hungry business gonna try to get more than they deserve? F19 Newbury Park has been my primary gym for the past 3 years. The past managers have always been so helpful and truly showed they cared about their patrons. The same can't be said about Blake. On July 7 2022, I requested my personal training be frozen because I had accumulated too many sessions. My personal trainer confirmed that it got approved. Normally I get charged at the end of the month. So instead of getting charged July 28th, I got charged August 5th. I noticed the charge on my credit card on August 10th and reached out to my trainer about the freeze. I was told that Blake would take care of it. Not once was my account truly frozen. I went to speak to Blake today and he was extremely unhelpful. He spoke to me as if I couldn't see right through his shady tactics. He claimed that since I never got charged on July 28, that counts as a freeze. This statement is blatantly false. If that were the case, it would reflect on my credit card statements. I have a personal training card every single month. I even showed him my statements and still had the audacity to try to "explain" how I am incorrect and don't understand how charges work. I had higher hopes for this gym but that crashed and burned after today. I can only hope the district manager does something about these rampant complaints before the gyms reputation goes down the drain thanks to Blake's greedy tactics. So this review is more about the personal training. Let me sum up the actual facility first. It's basic and has what you need. No pool or basketball court and the locker room/bathroom is not the nicest or cleanest, but you get what you pay for. The equipment is pretty good and for the monthly price, it's a great deal. There's also a Trader Joe's next door which is convenient. But again, my rating is based on the personal training experience. My Personal Trainer(PT) is Taylor and he's a good trainer, though I've never had a personal trainer to compare against. I decided to have a personal trainer for 3 months, 1 session per week for 12 weeks. I got a decent rate so hence, I opted for it as I'd like to start resistance training with the proper form and have guidance in my initiation. I first had a trial session with Bryan, the fitness manager, and the session went well and the rate I was given enticed me to sign up for it. However, I was led to believe that Bryan was to be my PT, but before my first session, I was told that Taylor would be my PT instead. This was a bit annoying, but I could accept it. I texted Bryan and asked him if I could have a trial session with Taylor and not have it count towards my 12 paid sessions and he agreed with an "Of course!" After my trial session with Taylor, I texted Bryan again and confirmed with him that I still had 12 sessions left and he said "Yea!" I was supposed to have a session with Taylor on June 9th, but rescheduled to the next week due to some soreness to which Taylor agreed. After 2 actual sessions with Taylor not including the trial session with him, I texted Bryan confirming that I still had 10 sessions left and he told me that I only had 8 left. He said I had done 4 sessions with Taylor, but he counted the trial session with Taylor as well as the session from June 9th that I had postponed. UPDATE: Changed rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. Bryan clarified the rescheduled session of June 9th with Taylor and offered me 2 additional sessions to make up for the confusion. So I'm basically have the number of sessions I was initially promised. I'm satisfied but just wish I didn't have to experience the frustration that I did. read more

Been coming here a long time but holy shit this gym has just been getting worse and worse. It used to be a clean gym where you know everyone in there. Now it's absolutely filthy always-especially the bathrooms. Sinks are always clogged with something, smells horrible, and kids are posing in the bathroom smelling like garbage with zero gains. Also, Gym doesn't have working A/C as it is always hot AF in there. Gym is simply overrun with people who aren't serious with working out.. just hanging out in groups clogging up all the equipment. Avoid them like the plague. My wife cancelled her membership before it even started, and in 6 months charged her for membership dues which she cancelled and sent for collection. Fitness 19 won't conduct business in a straightforward and honest way, so I suggest that you refrain from joining in the first place. Been a member since the Simi Valley (Now Closed) opened back in like 2016? I've been been paying for the premium membership as well. I've used the Simi and Moorpark locations and I must say I miss going to Moorpark. Teddy is an awesome manager and former personal trainer that I used to use when he worked at the Simi location. I am very disappointed in the Newbury park location, with the super outdated machines. For the value I am not satisfied and am seriously considering leaving after all these years. I know machines are expensive but it would be well worth the investment to update them to something that will allow for Bluetooth connection to smart devices. Anytime Fitness is right down the road and I'd much rather spend more money to get better features. Not holding my breath that anything will change however they will probably lose the business of my wife and myself. read more

This is one of the best gyms I've ever been to. The atmosphere is unparalleled, all the employees are very nice and willing to help, and I always get a great workout when I come here. I love the manager Blake and he always greets me when I walk in. I love how hard working and determined everyone is when they come in here. Only thing that is slightly annoying is when the high schoolers come around 2:30 pm but other than that I love this gym so much! This Fitness 19 Location is like to Neglected Step Child of all the other locations. This Location is in Such Need of a Make Over Up Date inside like 10yrs overdue, it's so Dated !! And the Men's a Woman's locker rooms are just nasty and so so In need of major remodel!! Especially the Mens!! The Walls inside this location are made of clear colored Plastic, with some panels broken with holes in them. This Location is Sad compared to other Fitness 19 locations. I don't know where the membership money is going but it certainly Isn't going into Fixing/ Updating the Newbury Park Location! I go to Fitness 19 strictly for the Group Fitness classes and the amazing instructors. They offer a variety of classes: Sculpt, Yoga, Cycle, Kickboxing, Zumba, Pilates, and now Barre. I take Emi's Sculpt class which I absolutely love and I tried the new Barre class today taught by Anastasia which was amazing. Every time I sign up to take a class, the instructors are very helpful. I have observed instructors helping members get the right equipment and welcoming first timers with a smile and helping them get set up. I don't feel nervous when I try a new class because everyone at the gym is so friendly and welcoming. read more

This place is a total scam. Signing up online you think it's a month to month membership. Nope you signed on for a whole year. Get charged $50, and then if you want to cancel they charge you another $50 and revoke your access. What was the original $50 for then? Why am I being charged again on top of that!?!? The website and signup processes are very misleading and I will be reporting them to the FTC over this. Hopefully others will too. Their advertising is false and very deceptive. On top of all that the facilities are disgusting. You never see employees cleaning anything. The women's locker room always has a horrible stench. And generally something is not working adding to the stench. Nothing is repaired in a timely fashion. Parents of NPHS teens beware. Fitness 19 staff solicited my MINOR children for memberships and falsified their ages (because minors cannot legally sign contracts in CA.) When I went to the facility in person to resolve it, they gave me an email (customercare@ABCFitness.com) and said ABC handles cancelations and refunds. When I emailed, I got an auto generated form letter saying that it was too many days after the membership was initiated to cancel. So now I am going to have to take legal action and close down bank accounts to keep these charges from recurring. If your teen goes to Newbury Park High, warn them not to sign up for a membership at Fitness 19. Their predatory business practices are both unethical and unlawful. UPDATE: what I could not accomplish with visits, emails, demand letters ,and "cease and desist" letters, I was able to accomplish with my cell phone. I walked in recording my interactions with the staff and then a manager. Once they knew they were being recorded, they suddenly became very helpful. Within minutes the accounts were canceled. My bank was also very helpful , issuing a reversal on charges and putting a stop payment on both Fitness 19 and ABC Fitness Solutions. read more

I joined Fitness 19 in May. 2022. My life was changed since then, especially when I started taking classes. There are so many wonderful instructors and classes. Anastasia's Pilates, Albert's Cardio Kickboxing, Shannon's Bodyworks, Rachel's Yoga, Magali's Zumba, Adam's Cycling, Zini's Bollywood Dance and etc.... I made a lot of friends at this gym and I feel like I am in school again. Also I appreciate that the classes are not canceled during holidays. I gave this an extra star because the classes/instructors are pretty good (from what I have seen and compared to other gyms); and they have perks like red light therapy, hydro massage and sauna. The staff is pretty friendly and available to help. There do seem to be more than enough at any given time, so it seems more can be done to keep the equipment and common areas clean. I'm not saying spray chemicals all over while people are working out, but a wipe down once in awhile with a cloth would be nice. The bathroom maintenance seems to have improved recently, but in the past there have been problems with backups in the sink, lack of towels, etc. The treadmills and other equipment are covered with dried sweat and other liquids near the base surfaces. That could easily be taken care of. My biggest issue is- the MUSIC! It is SO LOUD, and even with earphones on blast it's hard to hear your own audio. There is no need to keep the music so loud, especially since not everyone has the same taste in music. It can be a bit warm at times, and it seems the circulation/filtration system could use an upgrade (or at least a cleaning?). I was told they are making changes but from what I heard, it sounds more aesthetic in nature. read more

I mostly go for the classes which don't often fill up, so you can add yourself whenever you'd like. It does not have a sauna or steam room, but it does have a chair massage area. read more

I prefer going to the Moorpark location to work out. However, I LOVE going here for Anastasia's classes!! My man and I tried her pilates class for the first time, and we love it! She truly provides a great workout in a safe and positive environment. She consistently helps students with their form and technique. It is evident that she care for our overall wellbeing. Do you want to join a gym where the employees adamantly refuse to help patrons how to safely use their equipment? I initially came here after lockdown, signing up July 2021. It was $19.99 at the time. Many people (a quarter) didn't wear masks, which was still a county requirement, most others wore them beneath their nose. Staff enabled them, saying nothing, despite the fact they weren't busy. Anyone who goes there can attest that there is more than one person at the front desk doing nothing, whereas they could have been enforcing policy. Additionally, I was one of the few who wiped down the equipment after use. I quit after a year mainly due to people sitting at the equipment, talking politics and not working out, so I couldn't get to them for the duration. A year later I rejoined in August 2023 with my grandson during a promotion. The A/C was down (and would be for a few more weeks). My grandson couldn't handle the heat, nor many others since the place was half filled. I tried on several occasions to ask if an employee can show my grandson how to use machines. After two separate times being told no, out of frustration, my grandson cancelled. He had been there only a few occasions due to the A/C being out and not having assistance using machines correctly. I am okay with the gym. The same patrons are still sitting on (not using) the equipment, talking about politics, But their promotional rate when I re-signed was $7.99 a month and I wear my airpods, so that's okay for me. Following is the cancellation email I sent them and the canned response I received (BTW we are current with payments, of course, it's only $7.99 a month, so there's no issue with that): I would like to have the enhancement fee waived (annual $49 fee) due to the fact that the employees refused to show my grandson how to use any of the equipment. We received texts from an employee about a welcome session So I called and spoke with Brian for a welcome session on Aug 15 at 9 am. I expressed I didn't want one for myself, since I had been a member prior, but only for my grandson, because I wanted him to learn how to use the equipment. Mind you, the A/C had been out for a week and it was extremely hot and humid in the gym. Almost intolerable. Instead of showing him the equipment, we were facing an employee who was trying to sell us training. I stopped the employee about 15 minutes into his hard-sell and said, "I don't want to pay for training. I just want someone to show my grandson how to safely use the equipment." The employee said, "We don't do that". I thanked him for his time and we left due to the heat. We attempted to come about a week later, hoping the A/C was working (I continued to go, but my grandson wouldn't go if it was too hot). He would only go on the treadmill (it was closer to the open door and slightly cooler) since he wanted an employee to show him the equipment and was frustrated. We went a few more times and he would only use the treadmill. The last time I brought him, about Aug 28 or Aug 29, I tried to show him the equipment, then went to an employee at the desk and asked the same question I did before, "Can someone please show my grandson how to "safely use the equipment?" I was told, "No, we don't do that." It wasn't a matter of no employees being available, as there are always 2-3 employees just standing at the front desk greeting people and several others at the desks behind them rarely engaged with anyone. Just like that day that I requested help with someone showing him how to safely use the equipment. Frustrated, I cancelled his membership due to the fact that no one will help my grandson safely use the equipment. For that reason, I would like to have the enhancement fee waived. No enhancement took place. No service took place. It is unfathomable that a gym wouldn't show someone how to safely use equipment so they don't harm themselves or the equipment. Thank you" Their response :"Per the terms of your agreement, your account must be current and you must provide a 30-day written notice to cancel. Therefore, you are responsible for any payments that are past due or fall within the notification period. I apologize, but we are unable to waive any scheduled invoice payments. So with that, I would encourage anyone to determine if they want to sign up for a gym where the employees refuse to show their paying customers how to safely use the equipment, for their safety and the integrity of the equipment. I really like this gym. Staff is very friendly and I always feel welcome. My husband does weights and he said he has everything he needs. The best thing about this location and Camarillo are the classes. The team of instructors is truly exceptional, they are passionate, creative, professional and fun. I also really appreciate thoughtfully designed schedule. My husband hasn't done classes in other gyms we have been to over the years, but he is joining me in classes more and more often here.
