I tried out Fitness19 using the 3 day pass they advertise on their website. LOCATION/PARKING: 5/5 Located in a shopping center in Goleta, there is plenty of parking, which is a rarity in the Goleta/Santa Barbara area. CUSTOMER SERVICE: 2/5 A fella named Jake helped me get started with the 3 day pass, then followed up with a tour of the facility, which was a nice experience; HOWEVER, on my 3rd visit, this same Jake told me I could not access the facility since the person that helped me that day (a.k.a himself) didn't process the 3 day pass and wouldn't let me in without purchasing a Day Pass. Baffled, I explained the situation again to him and had to remind him that HE was the one that got me started and gave me the tour. He kept saying "nah man, gotta buy a day pass." This debacle took about 10 minutes, but he eventually, begrudgingly, let me in. I understand forgetfulness and mistakes, but his demeanor and handling of the situation was very poor. EQUIPMENT: 4/5 All the cardio and weightlifting equipment seem to be in good, functioning order. Only con here is there is not enough equipment for the busy times. CLEANLINESS/ORGANIZATION: 2/5 Dumbbells, weight plates, and other exercise equipment are often misplaced, so half of your workout time becomes a scavenger hunt. Bizarrely, there is no equipment rack for the cable machines, so attachments are strewn around carelessly. There's currently a hole in the wall due to members carelessly piling 45lb plates against the drywall. This lack of clean culture stems from the lack of direction from management directing staff to maintain an organized area. LOCKER ROOMS/RESTROOM: 5/5 Very modern and clean area. Definitely feels fancy being in there. OVERALL: 3/5 Fitness19 is a decent sized facility with a similarly decent demographic of members, but it is also clear that a decent portion of this demographic takes their fitness fairly seriously; this can be either inspiring or intimidating. If you are a beginner, you may find the crowdedness, disorganization, and overall culture off-putting. If you have some years of fitness under your belt, however, I do believe you will enjoy the gym (except during busy times: plan to spend at least 2 hours if you want to use any of the free weight equipment) read more

Gym itself is great. The staff is cool, customer service is relatively quick, and the equipment is clean and of high quality. The value for what you pay for is amazing. However I couldn't help feeling like the gym was taking advantage of me. Their agreements are confusing, misleading, and honestly deceiving. "If you cancel before the one year commitment it's a $50 fee." But then cancelling after the one year commitment there is a seemingly made up $50 buyout plus $39 fee for following months and "processing fees." This company should be ashamed of themselves for their greedy ways and dishonesty. TIP: throughly read the fine prints of the many documents they make you sign. It is not pretty. read more

I've generally enjoyed this gym and really like the equipment. There are very few other gyms in the area with machines like the belt squat and pendulum squat, and those were a big reason I switched from another local gym. I also chose this gym because of the advertised 24-hour access. Unfortunately, the 24-hour access door for Elite members has been unreliable. I've reported this issue before and have repeatedly been told it's being fixed, but the problem continues to come back. Yesterday (Saturday), it took me five attempts to get the door to unlock with my barcode. This morning (Sunday) at 5:00 a.m., three other members and I were unable to get in at all. I called the front desk once they opened, and the staff member sounded just as frustrated because they've been reporting the issue to management as well. I'm genuinely puzzled that, despite members paying extra specifically for 24-hour access, this issue doesn't seem to be receiving more urgency from management. At the very least, I would have expected some communication acknowledging the problem and explaining what is being done to resolve it. I enjoy training here, which makes this even more disappointing, but the recurring access issues have me seriously considering switching gyms. I can adapt to working out with less specialized equipment if I have to, but it really sucks to wake up before 5:00 a.m. only to find that I can't get into the gym I'm paying to access. read more

Signed up for this Gym when it opened many years ago. Went through the akward covid era of having to wear a mask while working out that they strictly enforced then got a high intensity job that required my time so I feel off the gym wagon. Time passed, I had a kid, decided to get my health back in order. Came in today to make sure everything was in order to come back. Had nobody at the front desk, a nice trainer came up to try to help and realized that they had an old card on file. I also asked to downgrade my membership from the premium that I had been paying for over 3 years without going. Totally my own issue I was asked to wait for a manager, which there was only 1 on staff. Waited, the girl was nice enough to me. Then came the rug pull. If I wanted to downgrade my account I would need to pay for the full year up front. I didn't mind that part, THEN they dropped that I would need to pay nearly $70 on top of that to downgrade my account. I pointed out how I paid nearly 3 years of non used memebership and that just seemed a little harsh. No wiggle room, no ability to talk to someone about it, just a straight fee with no remorse. I informed her that I would just cancel my membership instead and she then said I would still need to pay for another month to do so. Unbelievable. It came as no surprise to me to leave a review (For the record it takes a LOT for me to leave a bad review) to find so many people upset with their poor business practices. Do not sign up with this Gym. They make you jump through hoops to cancel and keep charging you for months. It is near impossible to cancel your membership after you join. Like Evan B. and numerous other reviewers have stated: If I could leave 0 stars I would. Not a bad gym, but I've been trying to cancel my membership for 8 months and every time I try they refer me to a new phone number or email. I have been a member at this gym since they first opened in Santa Barbara. It has been great other than the last 6 months when it feels like the gym quality has gone way down. The men's bathroom is always a mess, people have started working out shirtless during gym hours with no employees saying anything. There are always empty sanitizing wipes like no one bothers to refill them during gym hours. Its obvious that the only competitor, 24 hour fitness, closing made the management at this gym stop trying. read more

Fit19 has some positives, but overall it's a frustrating experience. It's really hard to get equipment, especially during peak hours -- there just never seems to be enough available, and when you finally do get a machine, half the time it's broken. What's worse is that they got rid of the ab room (which was actually useful) to make space for the overpriced Vault, which honestly doesn't feel worth it at all. It feels like members lost something practical in exchange for a gimmick. To top it off, I've had a few experiences with extreme staff rudeness, which makes the environment feel unwelcoming. For the price, you'd expect better service and better upkeep. It's not all bad -- when the equipment is working and the staff is in a good mood, it can be a decent place to work out. But the lack of consistency and poor choices in amenities really hold it back. read more

Just signed up for this gym recently. The staff is friendly, membership is cheap, and I've been enjoying some personal training sessions. A major reason I signed up was having access to a large studio/group exercise room, so I can warm up, stretch, do my exercises before getting into the heavy stuff. Well after only a few weeks I learned that there are plans to remove the shared exercise/studio room to convert to a "premium" section of the gym, which will have more machines and be placed behind additional paywalls. Meaning no more studio.. I asked them where they expect people to warm up and stretch and they suggested the turf in the middle of the squat rack area! You seriously expect people to be on the floor doing their warmup stretches in the middle of a crowded weightlifting area? Hello? Does that not scream liability to anyone else? There is not room or comfort to do that! I was very excited to join this gym, but extremely disappointed in the lack of transparency with this rapidly approaching change when I signed up. This decision is taking away one of its most valuable assets, and overall an alienating, disappointing, and bizarre business decision. I tried this gym for one session and filled out most of the paperwork for a membership, sans direct deposit information. By coincidence I got a great job offer the same week, and had to move. Over the next few days I got some voicemails about how my membership would be canceled in 3 days if I didn't fill out the direct deposit information. If that was true, I figured I shouldn't have to call them back. I moved two weeks ago, but and last week got charged for the month. I call to ask if I can get refunded, and the manager Bruce was absolutely rude. I've worked customer service, so I understand when it's necessary to site a company policy, but he was condescending from the beginning and not interested in my circumstance, or the fact that I was told I would not have a membership without a direct deposit. He kept attempting to interrupt me on the phone. There's no cooperate number I imagine for this reason, so it's likely a chain wide policy to lie to customers. This is a shame because if I had had a better experience I would have tried joining again if they expanded to my area. 3 stars so my review isn't removed. read more

Cool gym, always busy, but my main issue is canceling. I went inside and cancelled my gym membership then got charged a $70 cancellation fee with no warning. The girl at the front desk didn't tell me I was gonna get charged as she helped me through cancelling it, the only "warning" I got is an email I was sent AFTER I cancelled saying I was gonna be charged $70. Then when I went in and talked to the manager he was very rude and even said "well you kinda signed up for it wen u signed it bro" like ok, can I still get a warning before I'm gonna get charged $70? No, you won't get a warning, and the manager will basically say "sucks". Very money hungry Gym watch out read more

The Gym is what it is, a low cost gym that attracts a lot of people, that's expected. But one thing that Gym management can control is the cleanliness, the water stations have mildew, the shower looks like it has not been cleaned in a while, also has mildew on the shower handle and the drains could use some care or drop some cleaning liquid in there, smells like swage. I give this gym five star because of the members and staff. Everyone is so friendly. It's a busy gym and people are so great at sharing machines or letting you work in with them. Last time I went in they suspended my membership without telling me so I switched gyms just to later get a $100 charge because they renewed my membership without my consent. I love this gym! Its get busy at peak hours, yet they offer a lot of equipment. You don't have to be in line to do bench press because there are four of them! Same with the rest, there are many of duplicates and i never had to wait more then 5 min to use any of equipment. I want to thank Dani for helping me to choose the plan that fits me the best. She made it very clear how payments will be taken and what goes with them, she didn't try to overcharge me but instead get me what i need. I work in Santa Barbara and live in Ventura County, so this is my regular after work gym. It's a decent sized gym for the fitness 19 chain and by modern standards. The staff is friendly and gym is reasonably clean. My biggest complaint is the size and general behavior of the crowd there. The gym stays very busy on weekday evenings until at least 7:00 which means you are often (really almost always) waiting to use the next piece of equipment, which is somewhat understandable. This is made all the worse by a crowd that does habitually let other work in and even grabs multiple sets of weights at once. I know we are coming out of a pandemic, but at this point I don't see why people have forgotten basic gym etiquette or why such isn't enforced. Don't get me wrong-- people are generally respectful and friendly, I just wish everyone could step out of there bubbles in public shared spaces. read more

If you're considering 19 Fitness, here's what you should know: While affordable, the gym can get very crowded, is sometimes unkempt, and customer service could be better. They're also the only ones requiring direct deposits. I joined hoping to use the group exercise room for my own circuit training and attending offered classes. But the owner is converting the room into a "Vault Key Access" area with premium equipment for an extra fee, leaving no space for stretching or any classroom workouts. I asked the manager how I get compensated, as I had join with the understanding that I could use the group exercise room and attend classes included with my membership. He was not sure and I've heard nothing since. The basic equipment is fine if you are ok without the extra luxury, but removing the group exercise room will make it gym even more crowded without a space to stretch and etc. If you want more variety and space, consider gyms like Golds Gym. read more

Yay! Finally SB has a real gym. I went today for the grand opening and am so happy they're here- felt like going to Disneyland! I am also a member at golds and will keep both or switch to fitness 19. While I love golds, this new space is simply newer and has a bit more equipment that I will use. Hopefully they are able to keep it feeling new and clean. There's lots of cardio equipment (rowers are coming tomorrow), dumbbells (even 17.5 and 22.5 lbs which are nice to have to progressively increase upper body strength), and 6 squat racks + 1 smith machine. I'm looking forward to them getting the booty builder machine for hip thrusts too! Joe the manager is really friendly and open to suggestions for more equipment. Love that they have ropes, tires, and sled push- this is equipment I have been waiting for in SB! Right now they do not have an assault/airdyne bike or special treadmill for dead mills. But I'm sure if I requested it they'd consider getting those. The bathrooms and amenities are also super clean. There are Tvs in the locker rooms and big TVs in the gym. Haven't used the tanning beds or massage chairs but it's cool that they have those too. I'm really grateful that SB is overall upping their gym game. We desperately need it! read more
