I have been a member at this gym since they first opened in Santa Barbara. It has been great other than the last 6 months when it feels like the gym quality has gone way down. The men's bathroom is always a mess, people have started working out shirtless during gym hours with no employees saying anything. There are always empty sanitizing wipes like no one bothers to refill them during gym hours. Its obvious that the only competitor, 24 hour fitness, closing made the management at this gym stop trying.

The place is very popular, even on weekdays many people. The gym equipment looks well-groomed, not too old, there is enough space for training, there is a room for group classes. Good ventilation and air conditioning is a big plus. Changing rooms and showers are small. Lots of non-working cardio machines 4-5

I'm an early bird gym rat, I was there doing Cardio at 5:00AM. The 4 days I workout there, at that time there were only 2 people working out and I felt very safe. I entered through a scan from a QR code that gave me a punch code number. When you walk in it is much bigger than it looks from the outside. The gym has plenty of towels, disinfectant spray bottles, vending machines if you need drinks, 3 large restroom and I believe I saw showers plus free Wifi. I like riding the bikes which were on the second floor. I had a view of the entire gym. I noticed people were very conscious in wiping down the benches after they were used. Great Gym if you are visiting, want to work out daily, weekly.

If you're shopping for a gym membership, steer clear of EoS Fitness! I go there for group-X…read moreclasses, which are usually great--unless they're cancelled--but the whole facility is otherwise ill-managed. I've gone to these 3 locations for over 30 years, under a succession of five owners, and EoS is decidedly the WORST. The locker room, showers, bathroom facilities are always a malfunctioning mess. Of late, they can't supply towels, shampoo, or even paper towels to dry your hands. The toilets are regularly clogged and showers often don't work, and they just stay that way. I get the impression that the local staff would like things to be better, but they have no authority to improve the place. All they seem to be allowed to do is apologize or make excuses. EoS, the parent company, really doesn't seem interested in or capable of operating the gyms they own. Now they intend to open a fourth location in town (the former 24-Hr. Fitness on State St.), and I'm guessing it will be more of the same. Their interest is clearly in opening locations, not running them well. Just this June they closed down the cycling studio in Goleta rather than invest in new bikes to replace the seriously deteriorated ones left by Gold's SoCal, and a month later shut down the hot yoga program Uptown. The "new amenity" promised in Goleta is a "Booty Bar," and I have no idea what's coming to Uptown, but the Spin enthusiasts in Goleta and hot yoga folks have been left to find something else--or at least somewhere else-- to pursue their exercise goals. There ARE bikes Uptown, but the room is locked except during classes, and when the instructor can't make it, the students are S.O.L. I don't know about their membership offers because I still have over a year left on a 3-year deal made with Gold's SoCal, I doubt I'll be giving EoS any more money. My sincere hope is they lose interest in this market and sell to someone who is capable of running a gym.

I've generally enjoyed working out at EOS Fitness, but I had a very disappointing experience last…read morenight at the La Cumbre location that management should be aware of. I was finishing my workout using the pull-up/leg raise station located between the cable machines. While I was still using the station, a very tall young man who appears to be an EOS employee approached with a woman he was training or working out with. He asked if I was using the cable machine. I explained that I was not using the cable itself but I was actively using the station for leg raises and only had two sets left. Instead of waiting a moment, he immediately began setting up the cable equipment and told the woman with him to start her exercise while I was still there. The woman even looked uncomfortable and seemed to realize that I was still using the station. When I told him I only had two sets left, his response was dismissive and disrespectful. He said he didn't care and gave me a very aggressive look, as if he felt entitled to take over the equipment regardless of whether another member was using it. What concerns me most is that this isn't the first time I've seen this same employee behave this way. I previously witnessed similar behavior at the downtown location where he acted very territorial about equipment while training with someone. Employees should set the example for professionalism and respect inside the gym. No member should feel pushed aside or intimidated while finishing a set. I hope management addresses this, because behavior like this creates a very uncomfortable environment for members.

In my 50+ years of gym memberships throughout California, AC4--Goleta has been the best gym…read moreexperience I've had. For many reasons. Here are a few, in no particular order, but I will indicate when a reason is especially important. This gym is family-owned and designed by Anthony (owner) to accommodate a category of members who need access to weights (free and machine) and workout space, but who don't want to be surrounded by the annoying negatives of the traditional gym culture. I'm there to work out and appreciate fellow clients who respect important gym etiquette rules and the "flow" process--moving from station-to-station without "owning" equipment or seats. New clients are introduced to the gym's rules (see attached photo) to help everyone understand that there are expected behavior norms in this setting, including common sense limits on some types of cell phone behaviors and prolonged "residence" on one or more weight stations. The gym has three main workout areas--a design circuit of machines; free weights, Smith racks, leg presses, stacks; and cardiovascular options: treadmills, recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and rowing machine (second floor). There are two additional workout spaces on the second floor to accommodate free exercise and stretching routines. Three unisex bathrooms, two unisex showers, lockers, two tanning rooms, and two hydrotherapy massage tables. There is ample onsite parking. This gym is a "key-access" gym, open to members 24-7, which is a big draw for me because clients tend to spread out their attendance over the entire course of the day, and there have been no occasions in my six years of membership here that I haven't found space and solace on the floor. Important also: this gym is always clean; the restrooms are clean; the equipment is clean. AC4 employees are frequently on the floor cleaning. And clients clean their own benches after they complete exercise at a given station. Clean is important. On a personal note, I'm a life-long competitive swimmer who needs regular weight conditioning to remain functional in the pool. I need a specific range of equipment and machines to maintain a balance between chest, back, and shoulders. This gym offers the weights and machines I need to ward off shoulder and back injuries from 60 years of swimming. I'm not here to dead-lift 300 lbs and chest-press my weight in iron. Tony has designed an effective combination of machines, free weights, and exercise areas that compliment my conditioning goals. I've written this extended review in appreciation of Tony's business because I deeply value the resources and thoughtfulness of this gym.
