I don't go as much as I should because I have many memberships around town and I have access to the high school gym at SMHS, but when I do go--it's always pleasant ! Plenty of cardio machines and my favorite part of all is having the gold membership because after a good workout, I can go and get a water bed massage. For just $24 a month it's totally worth it to me. I spend a lot of time on the road and I always try and find a PF wherever I am-- and I've been pretty successful in doin so. Will be in Burbank tomorrow and most definitely will be looking for one in that area. read more

I have been going to Planet Fitness in Goleta for a couple of years and wanted to let everyone know how much I love this gym and the people that work there. It is very clean and the people who work there are extremely nice and knowledgeable. I am also a member of EOS/Golds, but don't do weight machines there as it is such a small uncomfortable space. Okay, lets start with a breakdown of the review. Its really a 3.5 but I felt giving it 3 would be unfairly weighted in the downward direction. 5 stars for the price, $10 a month is absolutely unbeatable. 4 stars for the facility. Its clean there are a lot of machines, especially cardio and the place still looks fairly new and so do the machines. The locker-room (mens at least) is still in nice condition but is a bit short on toilets. And I only say this because the whole, locker-room, shower, toilet facility is Continuously in use in the AM. Why? well it took me a few months to figure this one out but the super low price apparently makes it really attractive to anyone who only wants to use the shower/toilet/sink facilities. I've been in the gym there for 90+ minutes and gone into the locker-room to see it full of folks I didn't seen in the gym but who are showering, shaving and dressing. So back to the gym, its great with a huge main machine and dumbell workout area as well dozens and dozens of cardio machines. There's a stretch and gravity work out area, special area with Smith machines and a semi-separate circuit training area as well. I like the ethos here with their "Judgement Free Zone" slogan, and they have a lot of catchy, inclusive sayings printed big on the walls pushing back on the stereotypical gym culture. One of them mentions that they disprove of "slamming weights", "grunting loudly", "wearing bodybuilding t-shirts" and "carrying around gallon jugs of water". Sadly though, many of these things sill happen there with no consequence. In fact, though the staff are friendly and keep the place quite clean, there seems to be no enforcement of any rules whatsoever. People regularly camp on machines, don't honor the circuit training policy (its written on the wall in that room), and use their phones continuously all unabated. SOme folks go as far as to set up their own "mini-gyms" with dumbells, kettlebells, fixed barbells etc drug from all over the facility so they never have to move! Part of the problem is (sorry kids) is that they let HS kids in for free during the summer. Don't mean to be that "get off my lawn guy" but I left a great facility at nearby UCSB for the exact 3 reasons I just listed here. Overall PF is a good facility, with a little policy enforcement it could be fantastic. read more

Great gym but the handicapped showers for women suck. The hand held nozzle sprays all over the place instead of coming out of the actual shower head and if you're like me and wheelchair bound, standing up under the side that has a standard shower head is entirely unsafe. The water pressure is less than being spit on about once every five minutes and why isn't there a locking door on the handicap shower, but locking doors on all the other showers!? A curtain is swell if you have limited hand/arm mobility, but there should be a second layer of an actual locking door for those of us that do have upper body mobility. The staff at the front door are very friendly when checking in and the guests are full of smiles and ready to help. Please upgrade the broken hand held shower head in the women's bathroom and put a way to lock the stall. read more

Staff is unapproachable and at times straight up rude. Last time I came, they closed well before the scheduled time without announcement, turning the lights off on several people mid-workout. Planet Fitness surely has the resources to notify customers if club hours are subject to change, or at least to hire staff willing to answer questions without catching an attitude. Nine times out of ten, the attendants are slouched behind the desk on their phone, forcing you to wave or say something to catch their attention. Like clockwork, they become visibly annoyed at the interruption before slowly making their way over to help. This happened to me multiple times with multiple employees. As an avid gym goer for about 10 years and intermediate weightlifter, there has always been a negative stigma around Planet Fitness. When this place opened up, I had to see for myself what the hate was about. I have been a Black Card Member ($25/month) for a bit over a year now, and in this review, I'll break down this gym in different sections from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. PARKING: 5/5 Planet Fitness is located in a small shopping center, so there is always adequate, free parking. STAFF: 5/5 The staff are very friendly and receptive to members. I typically go in the early morning (5-6am), and even at that time I will see staff up and about cleaning machines and using their Ghost Buster style vacuums to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. EQUIPMENT: 3/5 (1/5 if advanced weightlifter/powerlifter) NOTE: Planet Fitness is NOT a traditional/powerlifting gym, so you shouldn't expect to find any squat racks, deadlift platforms, or traditional bench presses. Planet Fitness is catered to beginners looking to begin their fitness journey, and it also has the equipment to adequately support progressive overload for up to intermediate weightlifters. There are plenty of weight machines for isolated movements. Dumbbells go up to 75lbs. The Smith Machines (4x) and Leg Press (1x) can support up to seven 45lb plates on each side, so if you are looking to max out at anything above 630lbs on the regular, Planet Fitness is not for you (but you probably already know that) ORGANIZATION: 5/5 Planet Fitness is easily the most well organized commercial gym I have been to, and easily the most well organized in Santa Barbara (compared to Gold's, UCSB Rec Cen, Fitness 19, etc.) Weights are rarely out of place, and cable attachments are always on the attachment racks; I have never had a hard time finding any equipment during a workout. Planet Fitness had the genius idea of zip-tying the carabiners to the cable machines, so you will never go up to a cable machine looking like a fool with an attachment in hand but no carabiner to attach it to. LOCKERS/AMMENITIES: 5/5 The locker rooms are large and clean, and the lockers themselves are extremely spacious. The showers (3x) are great too. What I really appreciate about Planet Fitness are the massage/hydro massage chairs. I have shamelessly gone in just to use the massage chairs. OVERALL: 5/5 Planet Fitness offers everything a beginner/intermediate weightlifter needs in a clean, welcoming, non-packed environment. For $10 a month ($25 for black card perks), I'm not exaggerating when I say it might be the best gym for the price. If Planet Fitness has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Planet Fitness has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Planet Fitness has only one fan then that is me. If Planet Fitness has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. Legit gym but I wish they had one thing: More calf machines - they only have one actual calf machine and its not very good. Give us something to step on so we can work our calves on the smith machine. Like the rest of Goleta, my partner had been waiting and waiting and waiting for this new Planet Fitness location to open. First it was the pandemic, then construction and city delays. Yet it is FINALLY open for business! Leading up to their first month they had some killer membership deals such as $1 enrollment fee and a cost of only $10 a month for unlimited gym access. My partner thankfully went with the PF Black Card ($25 intro rate) which is amazing for couples. It includes: - Bring a Guest Anytime (that's Me!) - Access to Any Planet Fitness Worldwide - Use of the Black Card Spa with free Tanning, Massage Chairs, HydroMassage beds and Total Body Enhancement - 50% Off Select Drinks from the Hydration Station - 20% off at Reebok.com Of course, both the basic and PF Black Card club memberships include free wifi and unlimited access to their long, late hour gyms. Not to mention no commitment. I came here to check it out with him and given that it's new everything is sparkly clean and all in working condition. If a machine is broken they're all numbered with a QR code to report it for maintenance. I personally loved the 30 Minute Workout area since it's high intensity, brief yet at your own pace. They also have separate Ab & Stretching Room and PF360 areas. There are plenty of machines that I didn't have to wait for anyone to finish their reps. Of course I had to check out the Black Card Spa which is a nice perk. The hydromassage beds were super neat and quite the treat after a strenuous workout. While I didn't check out the restroom/locker room, I did use the filtered water bottle filling machines which I'm always a fan of. There was staff wiping down machines the entire time I was there which was a reassuring sight. There are cleaning stations with disinfecting spray and paper towels throughout the gym, though I wish they had disinfecting wipes instead because the spray is messy and soaks the machine handles. Stop in for a free tour and day trial pass--especially given that their grand opening deals will end soon. I tried to get more photos but got in trouble, even though I was avoiding patrons and trying not to be creepy. Side note: They also have a Google virtual tour of the space on their website AND a Crowd Meter to see when it's least busy. Genius! read more

I use planet fitness to shower at and I was nervous based on other reviews but the showers seem to have improved quite a bit in the last few months. Water was hot and stayed hot! Do not get a membership here, college kids especially. While I had minor problems throughout my PF experience overall it was alright. That was until I ended my membership in which I went in signed the papers they asked and left. Fast forward to 8 months later I see a $50 PF charge which leads to me finding out I've been billed for the past 8 months (my mistake for not being more on top of my statements) they verified I hadn't been in gym in past 8 months. They made no effort to correct their mistake and said I needed to provide email evidence. I have looked everywhere in my email and have come to the conclusion that one of the employees must have lost or not entered my forms and never contacted me about it as I had previously canceled a membership here and opened a new one with no issues. Have lost $130 and several hours dealing with their incompetence. Please DO NOT open a membership here, my friends who are currently still members are canceling it and transferring gyms, I'd recommend doing the same. read more

Broken equipment, dirty facilities and a manager who supports the use of equipment while playing on your cell phone. I'm a working individual. Honestly I am really impressed with this gym. The area is spacious, there's always plenty of machines available and the best part is its always CLEAN. I think the workers go above and beyond to provide a clean space which I truly appreciate. I also like that most of the people working the front desk are friendly and greet you kindly when you walk in through the door. There are a couple areas you can work out at, they have an open jungle gym like kind of area where you have free range to do your own thing. They also have the 30 minute workout area which is convenient to get a good workout in when you're in a time crunch. The amount of cardio machines is fantastic. There's a little bit of everything and can almost always get a spot where you want to be. I also really like their abs and stretching area. They have some pretty cool machines there and a lot of space to stretch. Their restrooms have showers and lockers and are always clean and well stocked. The price is just great. You can get a regular membership for $10 or an all access one for $25 a month. I have their black card membership which I really like because you can bring a workout buddy whenever you want and get cool perks like use of the massage or tanning beds. You also can buy drinks at a discounted price. Another cool thing about this gym is that they play pretty decent music so if you forget your headphones its honestly not too bad. My overall impression of this place exceeded my expectations. Im really happy to have this gym open at such a convenient location in Goleta. read more

The shower and locker room have homeless living in thier. The manager, regional manager do not care. I travel and use multiple PF centers. Goleta is the only one where homeless are allowed to live in the changing rooms. Being harassed by creepy vagrants is not a safe environment. read more

I actually really like this club. It has a lot to offer. My only issue is free gym membership is offered to junior high and high schoolers during the summer. This makes the gym extremely crowded all the time during the summer. Although most of the kids are well behaved , they are still immature. This makes for not the most enjoyable workout. I recommended this club to several friends prior to finding out about this summer policy. None of them joined due to all the kids. I know Planet Fitness is wooing generation Z but at the expense of paying adults. I will probably join another club next summer. read more

Sadly, my 5 start review is changing. I wish it didn't, but unfortunately I cannot support a gym with a General Manager who has such poor customer service skills. I am in shock that such a great establishment is in the hands of Matthew Curry. I'm hopeful that his experience with the way he treated me during a conversation about a billing inquiry, will make him realize that he needs to change his approach. I hope that he uses it as a learning and growing experience. He is the reason why I decided to cancel my membership. The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars, is because the rest of the staff is friendly and kind. The Regional Manager was also very attentive and friendly. This PF has all the makings of a five-star gym for beginners. Just one problem - they close at NINE half the days of the week! I don't know why - the gym is always busy all the way to midnight on the days they don't close early. This Planet Fitness is the grossest place I have ever showered. The facility is new and as neglected as it could be. In the ladies showers there are clumps of hair every where and mystery substances that look like vomit. The same grime, substances and dirt are on walls and shower curtains every day. Clearly, never deep cleaned. Im in shock at how gross it is. They often don't have female staff so the ladies locker rooms are rarely clean and even when they are it's the bare minimum. My partner states there is literal trash on the floor in the showers in the men's area all the time. Seriously, it's unbelievable. And there will be three employees hanging out in front while the locker room is beyond gross! I've gone to gyms all my life and staff are usually constantly in the locker rooms cleaning. Transient/homeless individuals hang out at this gym for hours, often on their phones in the locker rooms or posted up a changing stall for hours. It's creepy. I've seen some unbelievable things in there that I won't even go into. It sums up to this: Alarming concerns related to Safety, Privacy and Hygiene. It's really unfortunate because the location is convenient for me and I love the black card area. Do better Planet Fitness. This is unacceptable. read more

The gym is fine, BUT now that I decided to quit my membership, I called and was told I have to mail a letter requesting cancellation. I did; they still billed the next month! I went in to turn in a letter; the guy at the counter said, " No problem. I can take care of that." Click, click on the computer. "OK, you can use the gym through this (prepaid) month and we won't bill for next month." But they did! So don't join unless you're committed to going because it's a lot harder to stop that auto-pay than it is to start it! read more
