If you're shopping for a gym membership, steer clear of EoS Fitness! I go there for group-X classes, which are usually great--unless they're cancelled--but the whole facility is otherwise ill-managed. I've gone to these 3 locations for over 30 years, under a succession of five owners, and EoS is decidedly the WORST. The locker room, showers, bathroom facilities are always a malfunctioning mess. Of late, they can't supply towels, shampoo, or even paper towels to dry your hands. The toilets are regularly clogged and showers often don't work, and they just stay that way. I get the impression that the local staff would like things to be better, but they have no authority to improve the place. All they seem to be allowed to do is apologize or make excuses. EoS, the parent company, really doesn't seem interested in or capable of operating the gyms they own. Now they intend to open a fourth location in town (the former 24-Hr. Fitness on State St.), and I'm guessing it will be more of the same. Their interest is clearly in opening locations, not running them well. Just this June they closed down the cycling studio in Goleta rather than invest in new bikes to replace the seriously deteriorated ones left by Gold's SoCal, and a month later shut down the hot yoga program Uptown. The "new amenity" promised in Goleta is a "Booty Bar," and I have no idea what's coming to Uptown, but the Spin enthusiasts in Goleta and hot yoga folks have been left to find something else--or at least somewhere else-- to pursue their exercise goals. There ARE bikes Uptown, but the room is locked except during classes, and when the instructor can't make it, the students are S.O.L. I don't know about their membership offers because I still have over a year left on a 3-year deal made with Gold's SoCal, I doubt I'll be giving EoS any more money. My sincere hope is they lose interest in this market and sell to someone who is capable of running a gym. read more

I've generally enjoyed working out at EOS Fitness, but I had a very disappointing experience last night at the La Cumbre location that management should be aware of. I was finishing my workout using the pull-up/leg raise station located between the cable machines. While I was still using the station, a very tall young man who appears to be an EOS employee approached with a woman he was training or working out with. He asked if I was using the cable machine. I explained that I was not using the cable itself but I was actively using the station for leg raises and only had two sets left. Instead of waiting a moment, he immediately began setting up the cable equipment and told the woman with him to start her exercise while I was still there. The woman even looked uncomfortable and seemed to realize that I was still using the station. When I told him I only had two sets left, his response was dismissive and disrespectful. He said he didn't care and gave me a very aggressive look, as if he felt entitled to take over the equipment regardless of whether another member was using it. What concerns me most is that this isn't the first time I've seen this same employee behave this way. I previously witnessed similar behavior at the downtown location where he acted very territorial about equipment while training with someone. Employees should set the example for professionalism and respect inside the gym. No member should feel pushed aside or intimidated while finishing a set. I hope management addresses this, because behavior like this creates a very uncomfortable environment for members. read more

This place went downhill so fast after becoming eos. Golds gym was clearly the better company and operation. Not sure how a gym can be so filthy, have 0 towels so often. The employees will say because the towels are delivered and they run out. Here's a thought, maybe order more towels to meet the demand your business has? Why else do you charge extra when they aren't even available. The staff does nothing they stand at the desk talking to each other all day, people are filming all over the gym, dropping weights and slamming machines, laughable grunting and leaving powder everywhere. The amount of equipment that has been broken is a shame. It's just taking up space, they claim they have added new machines which is true, but they don't say they are not replacing the broken machines that have had signs on them for over a month. I have been a member of Gold's (now Eos) for 10 years. For several years whenever you walk into any of the locations, you can see a "refer 3 people, get 3 years free" advertising. Well, I did that and the prior manager acknowledged this over a year ago. However, when it came time to renew my membership and I explained to multiple people that I had made the referrals, suddenly there were new conditions. Apparently, although no where is it clearly stated, the referrals have to be made within 2 months of each other. A classic "bait and switch" or more appropriately, just flat out lying. When I tried to get someone, anyone, from their team to help me navigate this, it was complete silence. The customer service was abysmal. I am stunned that this is how they would treat a client who clearly enjoyed the gym at one time in the past. This Gym is a Joke. Going there you are playing a game of "is there towels today or is the machine still broken AGAIN" they never have towels but charge you for it?! The gym is overflown with trash hanging out the trash bin and towels just stacking up as staff is just chillin in the front. Doing absolutely nothing besides gossiping or on there phones. They don't have Mouth Was or lotion like ALL the other locations do. But according to management all other locations are running on there back stock because we can't get any here?! Half the equipment is broke and will take MONTHS to get fixed and guess what if they don't they just take the machine away. Public Health Should look into this disgusting place. Ever since EoS Fitness took over this franchise, the standards of cleanliness, etiquette, and customer service have completely plummeted.Under the old management, staff members walked the floor every 30 minutes to keep the facility clean and re-rack weights left behind. Now, the gym floor is completely unmanaged. Just today, I had to un-rack eight 45-pound plates from a leg press machine just to use it because a lazy member walked away and left it loaded.The floor is constantly filled with kids who sit on machines staring at their phones. If you politely ask them if they are finished, they look at you cross-eyed.When you bring these issues to the staff, they are entirely dismissive:Shifting Responsibility: When I politely approached the desk and explained that they need to monitor the floor so members don't have to constantly unload heavy weights, their response was, "Next time that happens, just come up and let us know." I am here to work out, not to monitor the gym floor for them. That is their job.Rude Communication: When I tried to finish explaining the issue, the staff member literally cut me off mid-sentence with a dismissive "thanks so much" as if I was being obnoxious.Broken Amenities: To top it off, the upstairs filtered water bottle refill station was completely broken during my workout, which is a basic necessity.Management needs to implement a mandatory 30-minute floor-check rule for staff to re-rack weights and keep the facility clean. My son and his wife are visiting Santa Barbara this week. As a former Gold's member, my son never had a problem coming in and getting a week long guest pass for he and his wife. This time, however, they sold him a Luxe membership with guest passes for the week. Lo and behold, only 3 Eos locations on the planet don't allow guests. Guess where they are? Santa Barbara! They tried to sell them a $40 per day guest pass so his wife could work out. The manager did not want to deal with it and hasn't responded. These are terrible business practices. As a former Gold's member myself, I will not be joining or recommending this chain gym that does not reflect the values and vibes of Santa Barbara. read more

I started my membership when it was Gold's Gym over a year ago. I enjoyed it under that management but when they sold to EOS, it seriously deteriorated in poor management, cleanliness, properly functioning machines, and hot showers in the locker room. I started addressing my issues to the front desk but it fell on deaf ears time and time again. Enduring cold showers intermittently within the last couple of months was the FINAL Straw! I searched for the contact person at the EOS Headquarters because EOS does not exhibit the professionalism to list the Contact Information for Upper Management on their website. In fact, I believe they deliberately and intentionally have it unlisted because they are Spineless with no Business Ethics. So, after hours and hours of searching, I found the Executive VP of Facilities, Terri Smith. I immediately reached out to her via email and eventually became more strident as I felt that she was really dragging her feet in getting these issues addressed in a timely manner especially, the lack of hot showers. I clearly explained that all of us were not training to be Navy Seals and need to have hot water as many of us get prepared there at the gym for work. So, having to take cold showers and then run into the Sauna to warm up is a big inconvenience to say the least. In addition, I also said that we all PAY a monthly fee so there should be NO EXCUSE for this!!! Personally, I pay $59.99 a month and asked for her to reduce it for this inconvenience and she blantantly NEVER acknowledged the request in the email thread. In fact, she made it a point to just ignore it! So, after taking another COLD Shower at this gym location, I just LOST IT and wrote her a scathing email indicating that she needs to do better and move her ASS!!! Again, I highlighted that we all pay a monthly fee and that if the tables were turned, I am sure she would be screaming as well!! Unfortunately, she got Butt Hurt because of my tone and choice of words in my last email to her so she decided to get on her broom and transform into the Wicked Witch of the West Coast and terminate my Gym Membership. This is an Executive VP of Facilities who should have BALLS and thicker skin for this type of job and cannot believe that her superiors would not have her cleaning out her desk immediately! Instead, they want to feed everyone that Corporate Kool-Aid Bullshit and Terri Smith is obviously drinking galloons of it because she is weak and pathetic as a Leader! So, my membership is permanently terminated but hope that all the women who are still continuing to work out at this particular location, enjoy those hot showers! I was told two different things. They girl I spoke to didn't even know if I can pause membership, she said she would have a manager call me back. Basically they never paused my membership. And I stopped going to the gym in october. Now I get a bill over 400$ stating that I am in collections. But when eos fitness says "month to month" it's not month to month. The sign up process was super easy and convenient. All of the staff is welcoming and the space is pretty big with indoor and outdoor areas for your workout preferences. It can get a bit busy at times. The mens locker room has a sauna, but its proximity to the showers creates a puddle or water inside, other than this slight inconvenience it was a good place to workout. read more

I haven't been to the gym since it became EōS Fitness but I've been working with Katie Martinez as my personal trainer and I can honestly say that she was the reason I was at Gold's Gym. Katie has a great attitude and energy. She's enthusiastic and encouraging and makes me want to do my best! She really knows what she's doing; she knows how to work with seniors to help make us safe from falls by improving balance and stability. She works in a variety of ways, including with free weights, the different machines and a variety of equipment so workouts are never boring or routine and all muscles get attention. If Katie is representative of the EōS culture, then I'm going to really love being a member! read more

I just joined about 2 weeks ago, and truly I feel like anything is possible here! There is an excellent variety of equipment and machines, and so many transformative classes with friendly, skilled instructors. I received a welcome personal training session with Catherine, and she is so supportive and insightful! She identified exercises and diet modifications to augment my recovery from a shoulder injury, and she made the work out fun, engaging and just the right level of challenging. I left seeing noticeable improvement in my shoulder alignment and already muscle gain after one session! The facility is also beautiful and clean! I love watching the sunrise as I strength train, and hitting the sauna to stretch before I leave. read more
