Yet just like ending a relationship even one that ran it's course, I was displaced and unsure what to do next. I, along with a slew of other ladies turned friends from our old gym began trying out some other places. In total I went to 5 other gyms before trying Fit4Life Boxing Club. I found some common problems in the other places. Lack of classes, lack of cleanliness, lack of class times, lack of variety, they all equaled lack of interest, but this "dating" period was kind of fun, dare I say exciting to try out so many different places. I and my gym crew prefer a place with structured programs. I do have a basic membership to a box gym and though I know how to work out, I prefer someone tell me what to do. It keeps me accountable and makes me feel like I really got the most out of my hour. So enter the boxing club, I was really unsure about this place at first. Me and two gym friends came here during a free week they were offering at the end of the summer. I had done no contact kickboxing classes, but that did not really prepare me for what was in store. By the time the class was over I was drenched and exhausted, but I wasn't sold. I don't know why. It was an excellent workout, it was fun, and went fast! But I think I was a little scared of commitment. After being "married" to a gym I wanted to leave well before it was over, I had cold feet. Luckily they were offering some good intro rates off the free week and me and my posse signed up for the month. It didn't take a month. Within about a week we all knew this was where we wanted to be. As it turned out not just a couple of us but basically everyone that went to my old gym joined here. I also invited other friends and co-workers to try it out and they loved it and joined as well. So to anyone looking for a challenging workout that's fun, stop in! Well not now because COVID-19, but hopefully soon. They have classes 7 days a week. Super early mornings, 5am classes are awesome, to 7 pm classes and in between. They have great instructors who know you. Out of classes of 30-50 people they still know your name. They are very helpful and encouraging the whole class. Each class is different so you never have to work through the same workout. The first class is always free and there are many different options for memberships from punch cards to 12 month membership plans. Nothing really helps get the aggression out than going 15 rounds with a heavy bag! Lastly they have great programs for kids and offer classes specific to people with Parkinson disease called Rock Steady. Fit4Life is a great gym that also gives back to the community. I am very happy I found this place.

Most gyms and boxing trainers have you do a workout and hit pads or the bag and don't teach you the fundamentals of boxing such as high guard, slipping, parrying, catching and the like. Western PA Boxing Commission has banned this gym from hosting Golden Gloves as Jeff Mucci (the…read moreowner) has burned bridges all over the city with his childish and egotistical behavior. Related to my specific circumstances, I enrolled my son in his Pee-wee boxing program at the age of six years old. He regularly attended this program and very much enjoyed the coaching staff. My son requires physical therapy for a motor skill delay condition and rather than sending him to occupational therapy, his pediatrician agreed that boxing would help him improve his motor skills and coordination. Thankfully, during the 3 years we attended (and never missed a payment spending $900 a year) we had very little interaction with the owner until recently. This past Sunday, apparently my card for my membership needed to be updated, but rather than notifying me in a professional manner, he texted me that he had canceled my son's membership at 6 PM on a Sunday evening because the card had declined. I did not respond. A few days later, he then texted me asking for updated payment information and referencing a past due balance. After attempting to understand the confusion in his communication, especially after he had already communicated the cancellation of the membership, which he charges prior to the start of the month, I could not understand why he was asking for a payment that I clearly did not owe. He went on a 5 paragraph rant about his membership program & ended it by making mention of another member who recently left the gym by stating "tell Rick I said hi!" He was specifically referencing my son's uncle, which made me realize this was the reason for his retaliation. After making him aware that I would be sharing my experience with everyone I come in contact with he then threatened me by telling me his "wife is an attorney and he will not tolerate any statements that would be damaging to his brand". He also let me know that he would pursue legal action "to the fullest extent of the law." We are clearly taking our business elsewhere, but I asked him to remove my son's images from his social media after all of this retaliation against a nine year-old boy due to his conflict with another adult, which once again, is completely unrelated to my son's membership. He has still not removed the 3 photos of my nine-year-old minor child on his publicly accessible, social media platforms which I clearly requested using the same cell phone # he was using to send his strange paragraphs from. My messages and requests have been ignored. I also commented directly on each photo stating clearly that he "does not have my permission to use my minor child's photos for any of his advertising purposes." Instead of removing the posts, he responded by blocking my accounts, removing my comments, and continues to use the photos my son is featured in for advertising purposes. He clearly has not brushed up on the laws protecting the privacy of minor children, but he will soon find out via legal consequences for this behavior.

Walked in to Jack's Boxing Gym, met him, talked to him, and suddenly the hope I lost over 20 years ago is coming back. One month in, I am slowly but surely 'fighting' my way back. There's a real sense of community in this gym from the amazing trainers to the amazing members. Best thing I ever did. I love it! It's a lot more than learning to box. It's about becoming strong, mind and body.

At Jacks you can learn the sport of boxing, both technically and mentally, and you'll get the chance to demonstrate what you've learned at the gym in sparring sessions. But that's not for everyone. I never spared, but enjoyed getting loads of technical feedback on muscle memory, how to move to reduce injuries, how to wrap your hands, how to strike to keep your wrists healthy, and how to move laterally around the bag or your opponent. I would have considered if if my strength and cardio improved enough. your opponents are other gym goers, they're not their to cause concussions. But even if you aren't interested actual fighting, another phenomenal aspect of Jack's gym, is just how many training sessions they offer. Loads of other gyms will offer one, maybe two classes a day, but Jack's offers two morning classes and one evening classes most days during the week. You really won't find that at many other boxing gyms. You'll also get a killer workout every time. Abs? Yeah, you'll have to work on abs(yuck!) but you'll get a good combo of whole body workout as well so you get to develop a lean and strong physique. The other thing i liked about jack's gym are the gym goers. I ran into abuelas and seniors collecting social security, as well as high school kids and was continuously impressed that the staff at Jack's made the gym an inviting place for all fitness levels and all ages, and all goals. You can actually learn the sport at Jack's. In some title gyms you'll get some knuckle head yelling at you for an hour while you punch a bag, with absolutely no feedback on if you're doing anything technically correct, or if you're begging for an injury. At Jack's you can learn to box the right way, which really enhanced my experience. Lastly, Jack's is competitively priced as gyms go. it has a very good value for what you pay. You don't even have to take any classes, it's still a gym, and you can work on the bag or other cardio or strength equipment if the gym is open. If you're even just thinking about it, head on down to Jack's to try it out yourself, you'll be glad you did.
