Wherever I have traveled, LA Fitness gyms always look so nice and upscale. While visiting my brother in Pittsburgh, I was having back problems that I can usually alleviate with a trip to the gym. So, when I looked around at all the gyms offered in the city and suburbs, I chose this one because it's in one of the toniest neighborhoods and looked quite sophisticated. Looks are deceiving. This is one of the worst gyms I've ever visited. In fact, it's nothing more than what I call a McGym, which is a facility where someone goes in and dumps a lot of equipment into a big room and calls it a gym, but it lacks the other amenities that make it a true gym. Despite the size of this place, it has no walking or running track, and there is plenty of room for it. They also have no swimming pool despite the fact they actually advertise aqua classes on their website for this specific gym! It has no whirlpool or steam room, which you could find at the dowdiest YMCA in a rundown town. Before I could get my opportunity to sample the gym, I had to listen to the sales pitch from one of their associates. When I ask about a pool, his response was, "Not anymore. Anthropology (a store downstairs) didn't appreciate their things getting wet so we had to take the pool out." Well, I didn't appreciate the glib response and I also didn't appreciate being told that if I joined, I could use the pool at the Bridgeville gym, 25 miles away in the suburbs! So, having no pool or whirlpool, I could only do my usual weight routine for my back problems. After I showered, there were no hairdryers to be found. When I inquired about them at the desk, they told me that most people brought their own. I've never been to a gym in my life where they did not offer hairdryers, and again that includes the seediest of YMCAs. This LA Fitness has a lot of the flaws that many commercial gyms have. The staff pretends to be friendly but comes off as placating and condescending. Hence, I'm wondering why LA Fitness is So expensive when Planet Fitness offers pretty much the same amenities. LA fitness is doing its best, but could use with a few shifts in how the staff encourages members to behave, and how the staff operates this location. I think it's fair to say that the majority of gym goers do not wipe their machines down before or after using any of the machines. It would probably help if there were more wipe stations and if they were regularly restocked. The last couple of times I went I had to cross the entire gym floor to find a wipe. One time there was a bottle of glass cleaner in lieu of cleaning spray. Add more wipe stations and ask members to clean their machines. I would hope this would help with the stench that lingers in the gym. It went away when they did the refresh a few months ago but it's back. Another addition would be to add more than only one water fountain to the entire gym. It would be nice too if it was an automatic machine that you didn't have to hold down a button. I appreciate the amount of machines that are available and that the prices stay low. Overall it's a gym and it gets the job done. Pretty decent gym. No pool at this location, but they did add Pilates classes. Caveat is that the scheduling of those classes and the consistency is still being figured out. I like the individual attention that the trainers provide to help beginners learn how to use the equipment properly. They also provide programs tailored to your individual needs and goals. After a nice workout, you can visit the juice bar on the premises outside the main gym area. The vendor is very polite and will recommend health drinks that not only satisfy, but are also nutritious. The gym is always kept clean and they provide spray bottles and cloths to wipe down the equipment after you use it. It keeps gym members from contracting any skin disorders like MERSA or staph infections. read more

no staff anywhere near the front desk to check in, so literally anybody could just walk right in. No soap in any of the 7 men's shower stalls. No toilet paper in the men's bathroom. the pool hasn't been open since covid. The televisions do not work on any of the 12 elliptical machines. One urinal in the men's locker room runs constantly (for a week now!) And lot of privileged users who sit around on the equipment texting on their phones and hogging the equipment instead of working out, but not letting anyone else work in with the equipment. read more

Total scam. When you sign up, they only tell you about the basic monthly fee. But when your card gets charged, it's never that number. They sneak in extra charges like towel service and Les Mills -- which are optional -- without asking or explaining. The info is buried in pages of fine print, so you'd never notice. That's straight-up deceptive. When I went back to ask for a refund, the staff were rude and arrogant, basically saying "you signed, so too bad." Zero transparency, zero accountability. I don't get the hate in these reviews - everytime I come here, the equipment is clean, the place is neat, and the front staff are friendly. (A few times the men's bathroom upstairs is out of paper towels, but is generally clean otherwise.) Deontae was very helpful signing me up and explaining the membership plans, fees, etc. They're also starting pilates classes which I'm looking forward to trying. Filthy. Disgusting. Abhorrent. I've never written a review online in my entire life. I don't really believe in them - I think people who write them have nothing better to do, etc. I AM MAKING AN EXCEPTION TO MY RULE. How would you feel if you were changing in the men's room, and right by your locker, was a dirty, eaten BANANA PEEL. Like right in front of your locker where you were going to put your butt down to change. Know also this happened one week ago, by the same member, and you asked them politely not to do it, and they ignored you and did it again anyway. Ok, now imagine that that same member did it all over again. Their slimy, dirty, banana peel on your bench, where you just came from work, wanted to work out, and not get whatever worm-ridden filth comes from this dirty eaten banana peel. So then you ask this member to throw it away again, they ignore you, and say "everyone eats bananas in this locker room", and refuses to do it. And then you ask them again, again refused. And then you go to the front desk and ask what the policy is on having GARBAGE where people change, and they look at their co-worker and mockingly "bro-y" say "hey do we have a policy on this?" All the while everyone at the front desk smirking and mocking a customer who doesn't want to sit and place his underwear in scum. And then you go back with the "manager" (not the real manager, those folks were apologetic and wonderful) to the locker room and they don't ask the member to throw away the slimy ooze that is this other member's trash. And then you ask to speak to another "manager" and they say: "BRO do you know how crazy you sound? It's just a banana peel! You can go and sit somewhere else!" And then when you call member services the "manager" says to the kid aggressively at the front desk: "CANCEL HIS MEMBERSHIP!" Twice. I mean, come on , "bro". Absolutely disgusting. The only saving grace is that I called the national member services line and instantly got 4 apologies with people who obviously recognize that no one want to sit their private parts in someone else's licked-over, saliva-ridden nasty garbage. There is no juice bar, no pool, no kids club, and they still want to call themselves a signature club and charge signature club prices. There's not even enough bars for all the benches. The owner is just awful and cheap. I'm jewish so I know what cheap looks like and this owner is taking it wayyyy too far. It's just absolute trash. If you drive please go anywhere else. Crunch is 9.99 and Planet is 14.99 and they're both not very far in a car. I only go here because it's location is convenient, but I'm just so sad every time I walk into this gym. I'm really considering making my gym back home my home gym, and I'll pay extra to use this gym just so this gym owner doesn't see any revenue from me. But they got rid of more cardio machines then they replaced. There are no new elipticals with incline functionality. There are no new machines. All the old machines are still trash and poorly maintained. They added a whole new massive area in the front of the gym with a tire and some medicine balls that nobody asked for. Half the machines still have worn grips and are on their last legs. And what's the deal with only having old school scales that are all off by at least 15lbs? He can't afford some goddamn modern digital scales? It is still apparent the owner is a cheap piece of $**t. Apparently he could only afford to put new floor in half the locker room. The pool is still broken and theres still no juice bar. This place still has no business calling itself a signature club. And apparently towel theft must be really breaking his bank since they're enforcing towel service now. And what are these? Towels for ants? I'm a 36inch waist and the towels barely fit around me to cover my junk. I also definitely don't keep scissors in my gym bag to cut out the security tags to steal them. I don't know who would do that. That's just crazy. I definitely don't recommend you do the same. The only reason to join this gym is because of it's convenient location. If I drove I would so easily forgo squat racks and go to planet fitness just so this owner never sees a dime of my money. Please go anywhere else so this la fitness goes out of business and a new gym can hopefully take over it's lease. I would literally pay double for a gym that doesn't suck. This "signature" club is hands down the worst LA fitness I've ever been to. 3/4 of the treadmills are broken right now and 1 of 15 on the top floor have a working tv screen. Pool has been drained since Covid. I don't trash businesses on Yelp unless it is really deserved. The showers are disgusting - broken shower heads. Broken soap dispensers for months. Typical LA fitness except it is not in the best shape. I have gone to this locations for several months now and have never seen the pool open or filled with water. Not sure if it needs extensive repairs or if this location is just unable to maintain it. One water bottle filler station was broken for at least a month before it was replaced. There are always different workout machines that are either marked as out of service or you discover it does not work once you try to use it. The bathrooms, and I've heard especially the mens bathrooms, are not very well maintained. This location does have a nice ladies room with lifting and cardio equipment which I appreciate. Overall a decent gym but could use some more maintenance to keep everything in decent and working condition. read more

OMG. This gym is a hot mess. The dysfunction of this place was evident from the first time I called their phone number and asked about the parking they provide to gym members. The employee I got could not articulate when, how or if the parking was free to guests. The male employees at the check in desk are hostile to guests checking in. No smiles, no greetings just sneers, attitude and pissed off looks. Most of them were African American males. I wondered - did they hate me because I'm white? Is this a BLM thing? After a hard day at work, I come to the One of the male front desk employees was reading a book when I asked for a towel. He never took his eyes off the book he was reading to reach around, grab a towel and hand it to me. I felt like I was a complete nuisance to the staff at this gym. One time I asked for a towel and was handed a wet towel. I wasn't sure whether or not it had been washed or just retrieved from the dirty towel bin and recycled. The pool had been drained around the time of the COVID lockdown (March 2020). It has never been filled back up. There's a sign that says the pool needs "serviced". I think that the truth is that LAF is going out of business and selling off their gyms one by one to ESPORTA fitness and there's no incentive to do repairs at this point. The women's locker room is literally deplorable. There is broken glass (for months) in the sauna. Of the 4 showers - two of them have no heads which were removed due to the lockdown and never replaced. The handicapped shower head dislodges from the wall and hits you in the head whilst showering. Hair from women's heads and their nether regions is literally everywhere in the shower area. Recently someone shaved their pubic area and threw it into a shower stall then a few people added to it. It was there for nearly 5 weeks before someone finally broke down and cleaned it up. There are no paper toilet seat liners in any of the toilet stalls. So often there hasn't been any toilet paper on the stalls. I've learned to check before I use the toilets there. This gym is a nightmare. For $45.00/month there are other nearby gyms that are much more pleasant and cleaner. The floor in the locker room is carpeted. It is only vacuumed once every 4 weeks. I know this because I use the same locker every time I go there and the same debris has been in the same exact area for 4 weeks! This is especially disgusting since I've seen some women in the locker room shaving off the clauses on their feet with cheese graters. The floors in the sauna and toilet area will make the soles of your shoes black from walking across them. I cringe when I see anyone in bare feet there. The clock is frozen at 6:20. No one could be bothered replacing the battery. Honestly, this clock has been frozen at this time from the first tome I visited this particular gym years ago. Of all of the LA fitnesses that I have been to this particular gym has the smallest lockers. I cannot get my gym bag and everything else in one locker I have to use two separate lockers. All of the patrons are complaining about the state of disrepair at this gym. I'm in a bind because this location is the closest to me. I am so sensitive to cancel culture and for this reason I kept my mouth shut for the longest time. When things got to be sincerely despicable I started complaining. The disdain directed toward me ratcheted up. I think the staff didn't like me complaining and sought retaliation. I've since been canceled from the club as a result. I didn't realize how the toxicity at this gym was affecting me. I would typically go to the gym early. I started going to this one later and later because the employees had created an environment where I didn't want to go there at all. I could see if they were understaffed. But the truth is is that every single time I saw those employees they were standing around doing nothing. It wouldn't have taken them any time at all to mop the floor change a bulb that was burnt out run a vacuum in the carpeted locker room area clean some thing but they were just too lazy. read more

SCAMMERS! Never deal with LA Fitness. You will be deceived. I bought a membership in Canada for two countries, the USA and Canada. But when I arrived in Pittsburgh, they started charging me $10 every other time, because the girl working at the reception decided so. Without warning. When I asked her why she wrote off the money, she could not answer. I visited many branches of LA, and everywhere I came across the same person who wrote off $10 from me. I contacted the manager. He told me that they should not have written off, but still no one returned the money to me and each time they continued writing off. I decided to close the membership. But even here there was deception and fraud. My last month was paid for when I bought the membership. But when I closed it, they wrote off the money for the last month again. I want to specifically review the Master Trainer Colton Rossi located at the LA Fitness Settlers Ridge facility in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a member here since 2016 and have been doing Ono-on-one HIIT workouts with Colton for the last 6 months. Colton is an incredible trainer who continually pushes you up to and sometimes past what you believe are your limits. If you are looking for a serious workout, I would highly recommend Colton. Employee named Anthony interrogated me why I am not bringing my phone for digital checkin. I asked for a key fob and he said he has them in limited numbers and they're for old people who struggle with technology only and therefore I need to bring my phone for digital checkin. I've been a member at this gym for 5 years and it has gotten consistently worse over time. With the exception of the front desk staff, everything here is terrible. The pool has been closed since 2020 with no sign of ever re-opening, yet members have been strung along for years that "a needed part is arriving soon." Key equipment will be broken for months on end, ranging from leg press machines to the air conditioning (the maladies of summer 2023 alone). The facility itself is gross, dusty and dark. I have seen everything on the floor from band aids to clumps of hair to dust bunnies, vapes, miscellaneous pills and dead lantern bugs. Unfortunately this is the closest and best priced gym near my home so I feel trapped working out in this filth dungeon until I move. read more

Hurt my wrist on a broken punching bag. But the staff at the front seems nice. I received three months for free from a friend because of them charging his account during covid when it was supposed to have been frozen. He enjoys LA FITNESS, but he lives in another state. This gym is convenient to where I live. There is free parking. They told me they are going to renovate after the summer. The prices here are steep and doesn't allocate to a good value. If I was to go to this gym, it would be after the renovations and with a promotion or special. read more
