When I arrived at the funeral home my first intention was to kneel at my mother's casket. But, I could not do that because there was no kneeler. Two of my friends noticed the same thing. I asked the three employees at the funeral home if there was no kneeler because of covid, and I told them last week the CDC reversed its guidelines. The gentleman who answered me said he knew that, but business owners could make their own decisions about their business. None of the three people made a motion to get a kneeler, and none of them asked me to wait while they got one. So I told them I was very disappointed. There was no mask mandate at Slattery. There was no social distancing at Slattery. No one asked for anyone's vaccination status. No one asked if anyone had been in contact with someone who had covid. The mourners hugged, kissed, shook hands, and were within inches of each other at times. So, why was there a concern about someone getting sick from kneeling in front of my mother's casket versus standing at her casket? My mother was a lifelong Catholic until she was no longer able to attend mass. There was a crucifix behind her casket. Her funeral service was at a Catholic church, where we kneeled as we prayed during the mass. Why weren't we given the same opportunity to kneel and pray at my mother's casket? I attended a wake this year, also in massachusetts, and there was a kneeler. I personally feel it was disrespectful to not have a kneeler for those who chose to use it. Anyone who did not choose to use it could stand.

Jeff is not only an amazing funeral director, he is a kind, compassionate, thoughtful, wonderful human being. Even though we'd arranged for pre-planned services many years ago, Jeff treated us as if we were writing a check today! My father-in-law passed away at 6:00 in the morning in a nursing home. I received a call from Jeff at 7:30am telling me he's picked up dad, and he was safe in the funeral home. He arranged for a time that was convenient for us to come in much later that day to make Dad's final arrangements. I swear he works about 20 hours a day! While dad had done the original planning years ago, Jeff still helped us put together a service which was perfect for our family, and did everything we asked to honor the great man our father was. All the details were handled beautifully, and we didn't need to worry about a thing. Dad was very ill at the end of his life and had lost a significant amount of weight, so we were worried about how he would look for the calling hours. No worry needed. Jeff prepared our dad for burial expertly, and made him look like he was younger and healthier again. In fact, it was so comforting for us to say it looked like he was just taking a nap. Dad was a veteran, so Jeff arranged for a service with full military honors, which was so important to Dad, and meant so much to us. I cannot more highly recommend Jeff and Hays Funeral Home. The genuine care and concern he showed for all of us and his expertise in his craft created a beautiful memory for us rather than just a sad day of loss. Thank you Jeff, and Rachel, for all you did for us. We could not possibly be any more pleased with the services and burial. Thank you for creating a last memory of our Dad that we'll treasure forever. You have our lasting gratitude. The family of Gordon Maccabee

When my mother-in-law passed, we contacted Duckett, but the man we met with was no longer there., We met with a woman who said she was the director, she had a really difficult time locating our contract, but finally did. It was an odd meeting, and I felt like she was very new at this. The day of the funeral we arrived on time as the family, when we walked into the funeral home we couldn't find her or anybody, there was a janitor's door open, and a lot of cleaning supplies were still out in the hall. My family came in right behind us and brought it to our attention that there was no book for people to sign in so we had to look for the director ( took us 10 minutes to locate her) to ask her for the book and the stand. When my husband got up at the funeral to to speak, there wasn't anything for him to put his notes on. Again, I went looking for the director to ask her and she said she took the stand to put the sign in book on so she took the sign in book off and carry the stand to where my husband was speaking. It was odd, the entire ordeal was odd. Lastly, and I hate to bring this up, but my mother-in-law looked horrible. She had makeup caked on her and bright red lipstick. I couldn't in good faith recommend this place. Sorry

Even though there's no signage stating otherwise! Then I'm told the parking area is One Direction again no parking notifications of any type then I'm told one entrance is only used as an entrance and one entrance is only used as an exit even though there's no labels on either of them!! Sure I was pretty upset in the first place seeing us were there for a funeral, but I thought the whole purpose of those people was to keep everything smooth. The actual interior has water stained ceilings, bathroom fans that are dying much like the whole reason you're there is way better places.
