I moved from California…read morethis summer and by far I have come to discover that southern hospitality is a real thing, since moving to Huntsville I have felt welcomed everywhere I go and the hospitality has been by far better than I could have expected. That's until I walked into the Morgan price candy company. At first when I walked in, I noticed several women making candy & chocolate, there was one woman in the register and not a single one greeted me. Secondly, I saw them restocking chocolate and I approached one of the women restocking to ask what chocolates are their best sellers, since this was my first time here. She responded in a very snarky way by telling me there's all types of candy all over the store and it's up to me what I'd like and what my taste is like. Then proceeded to walk away. When I went to the register I asked the woman there if I could have one of their chocolate covered apples which she said they didn't have any left, then I showed her the entire batch that was in front of me and she proceeded to tell me they were not for sale. When I kindly asked when they would have more available for sale she then responded "well I don't know, we've been so busy because of the holidays, we don't know when we'll run out of things". Ahhh got it! This place doesn't need my business, then I proceeded to walk away. The fact that they are overwhelmed by the holidays doesn't give these women the entitlement to act so rude when someone is simply trying to experience their store for the first time. I didn't have the opportunity to buy anything as it seemed like they didn't want me as a customer, therefore I cannot rate the quality of their chocolates or candies. But if it's as bad as their hospitality, then I wouldn't have high expectations.

May I just say that some "things" have changed at MPCC. Please come back and try again! :)read more

I was surprised to find it in the old Whisk'd location -- RIP to Whisk'd; I loved that restaurant. Street parking only but the street is quiet and it's easy to pop in and out. Inside there's a huge array of confections: classic chocolates like turtles, chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, etc., as well as fresh baked cookies and a somewhat startling amount of freeze dried candies. I know that's sort of having a moment right now, but WOW there was a lot of freeze dried stuff to choose from. I don't dislike it but I prefer chocolatey treats so I skirted around the big display. I came about 1.5 hours before closing and will admit the selection (other than freeze dried) was a little sparse. I'm glad they're not letting products go to waste, but in the future, definitely come early if you want to ensure you get everything. More than one customer asked/called in for something only to be turned away while I was shopping around. Of course, the holidays might also have something to do with very high demand. Anyway, I wound up leaving with two cookies (only about four varieties were available when I arrived -- I took a chocolate chip and a brown butter cookie), three chocolate covered pretzels, and one pecan turtle. The service was limited to being rung up at the cash register, but the employee was nice in our limited interaction. My husband and I enjoyed all the treats over the following days! The chocolate was smooth and rich on pretzels and pecans, the caramel chewy and satisfying. The pecans and pretzels were both crispy and fresh -- no problems with staleness here. The cookies were good, too, though perhaps a tiny touch oily. I liked the brown butter better but both were enjoyable! They're the perfect size to share. I'd definitely return here for sweets!

Our eyes popped, mouths fell agape, and rumors of fainting abounded. The overall shopper's experience here is the best in Decatur. Among the Pan Dulces (Conchas, Ojo de Buyes, and such), we espied something similar enough to Chocolate-covered Doughnuts to make us kill for it. But we had a bag of goodies we'd already purchased and somehow staved ourselves off. Formerly at 6th Avenue, LEF&FM is a must visit. Oddly, four of the other Supermercados are within walking distance and thus in direct competition, a move seemingly both unwarranted and unwise, unless a concentrated Hispanic population in the immediate area ensures their collective viability. I can't say. The first items you'll notice as you walk in are the greens and such in the well-stocked and eye-catching produce area, and the atmosphere was well ratcheted up in our estimation due to the fact that the employees were all friendly. LEF&FM had a wonderful dairy department, stocked with Queso this, Quesillo that, Quesadillo these, and Crema those. Some cheeses had Jalapeno, others, Loroco, which is evidently a flower bud of Central American origin. The popular Cotija Molido, which is merely grated Cotija, was also evident. It's one of the crumbly cheese you'll see in Mexican food...in fact, I believe it's one of the ones of which you might say, "Why doesn't it melt?" In addition to the bakery and dairy areas, the display of "soda pops" (to import a term) and such was better than average. Yes, they have Jarritos, but also have Foco, Boing!, Tiky, and several others, some of which are actually Asian in origin, rather than Mexican or South American. We are already talking about returning here...and that's a thirty-plus-minute trip. And we won't come back empty handed. Possibly in a sugary haze, but not empty handed.

The only reason we didn't buy these is that we'd already eaten elsewhere AND bought elsewhere.

I got two chorizo gorditas, though I thought I ordered one of them marinated pork but it didn't matter to me because they were very good. If one was pork it was very close to chorizo in color, texture, and taste..haha. I also got a chicken quesadilla. The gordita shells were crispy in the outside and held together very well while eating. I really liked them. There were two sauces in the box. The red sauce was ok. Not my favorite I ever had but had good taste and ate all of it on the gorditas. It was kinda spicy, but not too spicy for me. My wife would find it hot. The yellow colored sauce: I didn't know what it was. I thought it was butter because of the color, but was not. It had some sweet notes to it and some bites were kinda spicy...or that was leftover heat from the red? I don't know but I ate it on my chicken quesadilla. I worried there may be a language barrier (since I am not fluent in Spanish) or I would have to translate menu on phone, but the menu had both and the girl up front spoke English. I'd definitely come back and try other things here..or the same things since I know they were good.

For a while, I was eating there twice a week due to board game night and D&D night and I never got tired of the food. Any of the pizza themed options are great, and I love the Baseball Bat (PB&J panini). My kiddo loves the pretzel sticks. Aside from the food, they have a great selection of D&D stuff and TCGs. I huge selection of miniatures and Citadel paint. Warhammer stuff too, and some board games and other nerdy stuff like dice, jewelry, candles, etc. They have a growing selection of board games to play for free while you're there. And a large calendar of different events. I'm partial to board game nights on the first and third Mondays each month, but I also want to try some of the D&D one-shots. I love all nerdy things and had pinned Current on my to-try collection a while back. It's a little easy to miss driving around, but my GPS got me there. Parking is pretty limited -- the business next door had to ask some people to move because they'd created a spot behind the worker's truck, lol -- but I had a lovely experience once I found my way inside! They have a pretty large menu for a game cafe, and much of it is vegan or vegetarian. Pressed sandwiches, burgers, baked goodies, smoothies, all kinds of coffee drinks, and salads/wraps. I wanted something warm, light, and comforting. As simple as it may be, I was thrilled to find a pressed PB&J on the menu for a low price. I was offered my selection of a surprisingly large number of jellies (strawberry for me!) and my sandwich came out quickly. I had both a sweet tea and a latte -- hydration and stimulation! Lol. The food was good, and my mint mocha latte tasted just like an Andes mint. My favorite part of this place, though, is the vibe! Nerdy and inclusive. Wish all places could be like that. :) Fun merchandise from all kinds of anime, shows, games, movies, etc; board games; a tidy all-gender restroom; Pride flags of different flavors everywhere...it really did feel like a pocket of welcomeness. I don't see enough spaces like that in the southeast, sadly, and so it's extra nice when you do come across it. There were lots of teens and folks wearing alternative style hanging around in cozy couches and tables playing games and I just love to see it! While the game and card selection isn't /massive/, it's perfectly satisfying (remember -- not a ton of space in the building) and the staff was more than willing to help with people's questions. This is a wonderful space to hang out, make new friends (if games/anime/nerd culture is your scene), and grab a bite to eat. Give it a go if it sounds like your speed!
