I received a pair of Tory Burch sandals as a birthday gift from a close friend. Since the size was incorrect, I followed Bloomingdale's return instructions and mailed the item back using the prepaid return label provided by Bloomingdale's. The original gift receipt was enclosed in the return package, as instructed. After weeks of trying to resolve the matter, I was repeatedly told that Bloomingdale's could not locate my returned item. I spent a significant amount of time contacting customer service, explaining the situation over and over, yet no one was able to provide a satisfactory answer or resolution. I have now learned something even more upsetting. Instead of issuing the merchandise credit to me, the gift recipient, Bloomingdale's refunded the value of the item to the original purchaser--my friend who gave me the birthday gift. This mistake has put me in an incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassing position. Not only have I lost the approximately $200 merchandise credit that rightfully belonged to me, but Bloomingdale's actions also risk damaging a personal friendship. My friend may now believe that I intentionally returned their birthday gift, which is both hurtful and completely contrary to what actually happened. This situation was created solely because Bloomingdale's mishandled my return. I trusted Bloomingdale's to process a standard gift return correctly. Instead, I have experienced poor customer service, a lack of accountability, and an outcome that has caused both financial loss and unnecessary personal distress.
