Ive been to many Five guys. The customer service was great. But our food was very blah... Our cheese wasn't melted on our burger. Our bacon was very crunchy, almost hard to eat. The food was done pretty fast for what we ordered. The fries were the saltiest things I've ever tasted. Also ordered a cookie and cream shake that was very good. The restaurant was pretty clean.

The restaurant next to Sally Beauty Supply in the strip mall.

We ordered takeout and my husband arrived at the time they said. 40 minutes later they found the order and it was missing half of the order.

The burgers are awesome, the fries are not my favorite. I prefer just the burgers myself but my friends and family like the fries too.

Even though I had been back to Bismarck to visit family after moving away I hadn't been back to visit Scotty's. It wasn't until we were visiting this Christmas and drove by that I remembered the place. It was winter so the cool drive up vibe was kinda lost but it had a cool 'no frills' look to the building that is prevalent in that part of town. The inside had been remodeled since my childhood and was less brown than I remembered. The woman at the counter was friendly and when asked explained that the tartar burger got it's name from tartar sauce and was in no way raw. We ordered two deluxe cheeseburgers, fries and the appetizer sampler. The fries were good and crisp and the app sampler was the pile of brown and fried that we had signed up for but the real hit were the burgers. They classified as the fast food type of burger, thin, lacy edged and cooked on a griddle. Unlike bad examples of this style these had a crisp brown crust from the griddle and none of the pale gray hue of a steam table. The onions were sliced paper thin to give flavor without getting in the way of the rest of the burger. All of it was on a soft eggy bun. One other high point was the thick homemade ranch that was provided for the fried food. It was the kind of ranch that is referred to as "the good stuff". Scotty's is a place that delivers exactly what it advertises, good burgers and fries made the well with no frills. I think there might be ice cream there as well, but if you have room left after the burgers and fries you did it wrong.

Now that's a little too fast for me. took first bite and that was the worst burger I have ever had. I've even made my own from scratch with very good results. But I must say: The Walrus blew my mind. Their presentation is absolutely fantastic. The cakes are meaty, just-right-crispy and delicious and they are served perched on a bed of gorgeous greens. The greens are lightly dressed in a lovely vinaigrette and topped with perfectly roasted veggies and feta. YUM! We also ordered the artichoke and spinach dip. Delicious. AND served with plenty of yummy crostini for dipping. So many places skimp on the dippers, and it's always annoying. Not so at The Walrus. Service was prompt, friendly, attentive and efficient. If I'm ever back in Bismarck, I'll be campaigning for a return visit. Until then, I'll be dreaming about those crab cakes.

They weren't overly busy for a Friday night, and we only waited a few minutes for a table. Right after being seated, they brought out fresh-popped popcorn, which the kids immediately devoured. We also tried the giant pretzel and cheese curds. Both were tasty, though not particularly memorable. The pretzel cheese definitely seemed canned, while the curds appeared homemade--but both appetizers felt a bit overpriced for what you get ($14 for cheese curds seems steep, though maybe that's just the area). Burgers seem to be the star of the menu, with lots of options to choose from. Two of the kids ordered burgers and said they were cooked perfectly. Another ordered the Minnesota Bowl, which was unique but a little underwhelming. The menu describes walleye on wild rice, but it's actually served on white rice with just a sprinkling of wild rice--worth noting for anyone watching their glycemic index. I ordered the walleye tacos, which were quite good. The fresh slaw and special sauce balanced out the spice from the blackening seasoning nicely. Overall: Service was attentive and friendly--our server kept our waters and popcorn filled throughout the meal. The drink menu looked fun, and I'd definitely come back to try one of those and explore more of the menu next time.

The hostess mentioned it was taco tuesday. I didn't see anything on the menu about tacos so I looked up their website where it's listed. I ordered birria beef tacos and was surprised by what I received. Not sure if this is common to this area or a Lucky's interpretation: cheese is melted onto the outside of a flour shell, birria meat is placed mid-shell w/crema over top. It was tasty. Just very confusing because that isn't what I think of when I think Taco. Overtired and very confused and our waiter really handled it so well. Aside from my taco turmoil my Caeser salad was very tasty and fresh. My dining companion had a half Reuben and chili. The Reuben also was different from our accustomed 'build'. Shredded meat was mixed with dressing (vs thin sliced with saurkraut on top and thousand island dressing as a condiment). We are so far away from home we have no idea is this the ND way? Or the chef's interpretation? No worries. This is a knife and fork sandwich for sure. The chili is topped with Frito cornchips and cheese melted over all. A filling meal. This is a family friendly restaurant with a huge bar and a fun vibe. TV's all around and a few slot games in the bar. There is an actual changing table in the ladies room for diapering. Private parking lot.
