There were no customers ahead of me when I arrived and the place, located at the Junction Cambridge, was very quite. Great, I thought, this should be quick. I watched the staff having a good chat while I waited. They seemed to be in no rush. I eventually got my burger over 10 minutes later. I hate to think how much longer it takes when the place is busy! I ordered a little burger with small fry on 4/21 as carry out. I asked for no tomato or mushroom everything else was fine. I took a bite of the sandwich and there was no burger. I thought it was a joke and that the burger was under all the lettuce but nope nada, but they did include the tomato and mushroom I didn't want. I tried calling the store no answer the line was busy all day, called again a few days later. Was able to speak with a worker (not even a manager ) to express my frustration at paying $13 for a meal with no burger. How do you forget the burger???? Was told a manager would contact me. Still nothing. Reached out to corporate and what do you know STILL NOTHING. Customer service is poor and the food I cannot even comment on because all I had was a bun and veggies. I can't believe I ett the whole thing. But I did. Since this was our first visit to a Five Guys, we had no idea that a "regular-sized" burger means double patties. For a single patty, you're apparently supposed to order the "little" burger. But we ate it all anyway, because these burgers are so darn good. They're everything burgers should be - hand-formed, 100% fresh ground beef patties (NOT frozen) grilled to perfection, served on a fresh-baked bun with your choice of 15 - count 'em! -- toppings. Because they're made to order and haven't been sitting around beforehand under a heat lamp, the beef is hot and juicy, and the vegetable toppings are cold, crisp, and crunchy, not soggy or wilted. These are more like burgers that you would whip up in your own kitchen. They're a bit more expensive than fast-food burgers, but you're paying for the top quality ingredients and the hand-assembly. Their fries are great, too. They're hand-cut and come in either "Five Guys Style" (meaning plain old salt and pepper seasoning) or spicy Cajun style. I also noticed a tangy undertaste to the fries that turned out to be from the peanut oil they're cooked in. (I'm supposedly slightly allergic to peanut oil, but I didn't notice any after-effects. Either I've outgrown it or my doctor LIED! Good thing, too, cuz I want more of those fries!) The Five Guys menu is pretty basic because they stick to what they do best - burgers and fries, although they also offer hot dogs and a few sandwiches. They also serve peanuts in the shell for those who want them, which has supposedly become part of the Five Guys identity. (They have signage on their doors and walls warning that they serve peanuts in bulk, so people with peanut allergies are forewarned, and you're not allowed to take any outside so that allergic people don't unknowingly come into contact with them.) The décor is bright, cheerful, and casual with boxes of bulk peanuts and bags of Idaho potatoes stacked around the white-and-red checked tile walls. All orders are served in paper bags, so you can either eat in or take them home. The only drawback to the whole experience was the air conditioning, which was cranked up to Arctic level so that even my he-man husband was shivering, but we just sucked it up. Because they don't start to make your burger until after you order it and everything is hand-assembled, your wait time is going to be a little longer than it would be in a fast-food place. But hang in there - it's definitely worth it. And if you just can't stand waiting in line, they even have a handy iPhone app where you can order and pay ahead of time. read more

The very first time I had five guys was at the Orland park location, and I wasn't very impressed. I visited the new location in Joliet, and I had a much better experience. I knew what to order this time! They have a wonderful iPhone app where you can order your food, and pay for it on your phone. All you do is walk in and pick it up! I loved that because I got to pick what I wanted on my burger without the pressure of standing in line. They don't pressure you to hurry and order here, but I didn't want to be that bitch that holds the line up! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and grilled jalapeños! It was soooo good! I do think that the burgers are on the small side. #DoBetter Do not order a large fry! I like this branch of 5 guys! It's clean and the burgers are always perfect even when you order using Uber Eats. They double wrap to keep them warm! I think the key to Five Guys' success is the quality of meat they use in their burgers! It's the foundation of any great burger and they don't skimp here. I've had burgers from other restaurants where I question if the meat is even beef! That doesn't happen when I eat here! The buns could be better but they're old school and that's OK! The gentleman here are friendly. The young ladies are clean, nice, and cordial. Definitely focused on the best customer service as their number one goal. The tall, light, and handsome cook is an amazing sight for sore eyes. I sat mesmerized with him for at least 5 minutes. The women should be excited to come to work if for no other reason than the beautiful cook they get to work alongside. Very nice and clean establishment for so early in the afternoon. Tried to place an online order. Only five guys not allowing it. I call in to place an order. Guy answered the phone very rudely says to hold 3 times before just placing the phone down. I hear him take one order and then nothing. 11 minutes and some change later another guy answers the phone confused that there is someone there. When asked if they forgot about me the guy stated the phone was just sitting there off the hook and he had no idea what was going on. If you want actual customer service. This is NOT the place to go. This place honestly gave me the best burger I have ever had! It was DELICIOUS! The french fries were also wonderful. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is terrible and because the restaurant is all windows, metal, and tile, the sound echoes and it is VERY loud. The tables were also dirty, and we had to wipe our table off ourselves before eating. Finally, it is a bit on the pricey side, but I felt that it was worth it for the size and quality of the burgers. I love five guys, especially the fries. Stuff is made to order and therefore always hot and fresh. At one time I used to think five guys was expensive relative to McDonalds. It turns out not to be true. The average Big Mac costs around $4.80 and has 3.2 ounces of meat making the price per ounce of meat a $1.50. The Five guys burger has 6.6 ounces of meat which is more than double the Big Mac and at an average price of 7.09 for even the cheeseburger still comes out to $1.07 per ounce of meat. read more
