The food is good and cooked to order. The staff is efficient however, they all seem grumpy and mad. The prices are higher than any beef and hotdog restaurants in a 50 mile radius and the atmosphere are probably the reasons they are never very busy! I work near by and frequented them 3-4 times monthly. I truly try my best to support the small business instead of the corporate America. My go to was two dogs and a small cheese fry. I always asked for diced onions on my cheese fry for $5.99 plus tax and then the older lady (The grumpy one) decided to start charging me .80 cents for the onions. Why i asked, since don't when your hot dogs and she said that's what they do! So my small cheese fry with onions is $7.30 with tax. It should be $7.15 with 6.75% tax. So figure that one out? I have never posted on any of these sites. My hope is that the owners would read this and take note. I sadly refuse to go there any more. My $15 lunch purchase 3-4 times a month wont be missed. Great spot for a quick bite. Wife and I stopped in here on the way home and shared two Chicago style dogs with large fries. The menu is decent and seems like they have all your typical fast food grubs. The ladies in there were very polite and we got our order quickly. We took the trip a few hours away to the really cool antique mall next door. Before heading home we decided to give this place a try. It's much bigger than it looks inside. The menu is really large, they have a large variety. They had a 2 hotdog special that I decided on. I mean like Hot Dogs are part of the name so I had to try them. They have a sign on the wall about fresh cut fries, that I was excited for. We were the only people there so the food came out pretty fast. I was surprised to see the fries were definitely NOT fresh cut, but frozen kind of coated batter fries, but they were hot, fresh and pretty good. They also are very generous with the amount, plenty to share. The dogs were very good, surprisingly good. I love that they have cucumber slices, something I have seen in only a few places in Chicago. Everything was right, snappy hot dog, steamed bun, neon green relish, onion, pickle spear, mustard, tomato and celery salt. Great dogs, really good fountain Dr Pepper and good fries. Cozy little joint, quiet and pretty empty when we walked in but there was couple people passing through as we ate. The menu is big and food was AMAZING. We have been going to Dave's Dawgs once a week for the past two years. We are loyal customers and order the same thing almost every time. Tonight, my husband picked up our order, brought it home, and we found that they had given us a "cheese fry" (fries covered in cheese sauce). We had ordered two large fries with a cup of cheese on the side. No problem, mistakes happen. We called to politely tell them about the mistake assuming they would apologize and send the correct items to be delivered to us, like a good business would for loyal customers. Instead, the woman argued with us on the phone for a good 10 minutes telling us that they repeated the order to my husband and that he must have not been paying attention. I told her that it was very frustrating that they were accusing him of not paying attention instead of just correcting the order. We order the same thing weekly and know there was no mistake. They said that they would give us the correct items if he brought the order back in. I told her that if we go back in the rest of our food would be cold so we would like the entire order replaced OR they would need to bring the fries to us. She then charged us for the fries and gave me a total. I told her that we were already charged for cheese fries which we didn't want so she needed to subtract that amount. She then said we need to give the cheese fries back to the delivery driver if we do that. Unbelievable! How cheap and petty can you be?! I am so angry because we spend a great deal of money here and we really like their food. Unfortunately, they clearly do not value their customers and as a small-town business, this is unacceptable. If a customer who has been spending money at your establishment for the past two years, weekly, tells you they are missing two large fries, you apologize and give them the fries. I can't even believe that this was such a big ordeal. read more

This is probably the best hot dog place in Morris and might even be the only one! You can't beat 2 hot dog, fries, & drink special for $6. The Italian beef sandwich is not bad. Sometimes lunch rush can be very busy but they make the food pretty quick. There's a lot of options on the menu and all the prices are reasonable. read more

I wanted to go somewhere else yesterday for lunch, however, my husband suggested Dave's Dawgs. I'm glad I listened to him. As new residents, my husband came here for lunch by himself just last week and got the Gyro Special which he said was pretty good. When we visited yesterday, I ordered the Ribeye Steak Sandwich Special which came with french fries or soup. I opted for the cup of chili and raw onions and mayonnaise on my sandwich. The sandwich was HUGE. It was a small steak that was very flavorful and tender. You could easily bite into it. It was on garlic bread. The chili was good but not the star of the show so I focused more on the steak sandwich. My husband got the Hot Dog Special and had them (2 hot dogs) Chicago style which he said was very good with the ingredients tucked into the bun rather than just placed on top (his preference). He also had the chili which went ignored as did mine. Overall, a very good lunch spot! Will definitely be back. read more

Went here for the first time, got the gyros dinner. Food was fresh, hot, & plentiful - really good gyros. I finally have my goto place for gyros near my work. Building has indoor & outdoor seating, inside of building is clean and bright - and happy. There is a long ice cream cooler and they have many ice cream creations on the menu besides the long list of hot food. They were also busy, there were 6 people who came in while I was waiting 5 minutes for my food at 4pm on a weekday. I will definitely be returning soon and in the future. Larger on the inside than it portrays on the outside. The outside seating is nice when it gets busy. There were only two tables left when we got there although it was 1pm so that's expected. The service was decent. Friendly and we didn't need to wait too long for our order. Three of us ordered 4 dogs, 2lrg fries, 2drinks and I had a gyro all for slightly under $18. The dogs looked satisfying and the fries were very good with quality and quanity. Was slightly disappointed with the Gyro meat. I won't complain though because I've come to realize that it's a risk you take when ordering gyros. That if no one has ordered a gyro before you, you get that old meat. The menu was surprisingly large. The have also have a nice selection of ice cream. I kick myself for not ordering something differnt. I really like coming here. Food is always good but my most recent visit was not awesome. There was an older female staff member who acted as if she was the boss.. told the younger kids what to do in a not so friendly tone. When customers walked in she would have one of the kids come to the register to wait on the customer even though she was standing right in front of the register. She never greeted any customer when I was there. FIVE STARS? I don't typically have a five star level for fastfood and diners. That fifth star is reserved for full service restaurants which require judging how the wait staff and the management operate. So, four stars is rather high praise for a diner. I would judge Dave's to be right up there with Franks' Diner in Kenosha, Wisconsin; a restaurant featured on Drive-Ups, Diners and Dives on the Food Network. First of all, yes there is TV at Dave's Dawgs; two, in fact. Just watched some of the 49ers/Saints playoff game while enjoying one of the best Reuben Sandwiches in FastFoodom. I have never walked into this place and been the only one there. This is rare and speaks well of Dave's longevity in serving this small community with a large drive in crowd. About the gyro's; I have had several and the meat is so good that a couple of times I skipped the pita and just ate the meat and sauce. I guess I have never been the one to be served first off of the gyro shank. My favorites at Dave's are; 1) Polish Sausage, meaty, large, juicy, served hot with all of the Chicago trimmings on a soft, poppy seed dog bun. 2) Two hot dogs. All beef, one is never enough. 3) Reuben sandwich served traditional. Rye toast, sauce seems like the traditional mayo-chilisauce-worchestershire. 4) The Gyro. They have a unique gyro burger or sandwich there that I've had which is also really good, but I like the traditional gyro the best. Dave's Dawgs always has really good bread products. 5) A new, young, female server there suggested a half and half drink when I ordered a diet raspberry iced tea (which they don't have; I don't know what I was thinking). She combined the raspberry tea and the regular tea; wonderful! I just wish they served breakfast. We are moving to Washington in a few weeks so I am going to miss Dave's Dawgs in Morris, Illinois. I stopped here on my way through Morris and as much as they market themselves as a Chicago hot dog place.... they were out of hot dogs. ??? Then I was told they did have some but it would take 20 minutes. 20 minutes for a hot dog, eh? Are you casing them yourself in the back? So I ordered fish and chips which was also a mistake. They don't even have lemon. Not even in the kitchen. No amount of tartar or lemon would have saved this crap anyway. Maybe small town people like this place but anyone with even a tinge of discerning taste for food should find it offensive. Also, take 10 minutes and clean off the inside of the men's bathroom door. Very pleasant surprise for a vegetarian and very affordable prices. Nothing fancy on very extensive menu , but included great grilled cheese with several bread and cheese options. Garlic bread with cheese oddly seemed more like a grilled cheese. Best 5 star part was lots of flavors of real ice cream (not soft serve) and great handmade shakes with flexibility to mix several ice cream flavors. Classic American decor nicely matched classic menu. Wait staff very friendly, cleaning staff very obsessive. Bathroom sink blasted very hot water, but eventually fixed. Plenty of seating and space, but chairs could be softer, and soft bench booths would be great. Usually pretty busy with a wide variety of customers. Conveniently off Route 6, next to True North.
