Food was great, however, the price was high. I guess like everywhere else it was the norm.

Everything you heard about how good five guys is is true. Only reason I didn't give them five stars is price and value. It's hard for me to pay $11.99 for a Bacon Cheeseburger, $4.39 for a small fries, and $3.29 for a regular coke at a self serve. My three buddies and I stopped by after golf this past Tuesday ordered four burgers, three fries, differing sizes of sodas, and $75 later had a very good meal. Burgers were hot and fresh, so were the fries which we piled onto the middle of the table to share, and sodas were soda. Over all the food was great, five stars, service ok, three stars, and the floor layout, spacing, & Covid controls were adequate. Maybe the masks didn't allow the counter help to appear as friendly and welcoming or perhaps because it took too long and required two different people just to get packets of salt, and although they were efficient in making the food, I got no personality or sense and welcoming from the staff. There was both indoor, which we chose for the AC, and outdoor seating at what looked like half capacity. Nice side note the mall free charging stations so my electric car was happy. So bottom line, yes I would go back again, probably order the same and share fries, and get my car a free charge. read more

There was a lot of hype with this place opening a while ago, and it was branded as a "must try." Well, finally did and, unfortunately, it left much to be desired... We wanted simple so we ordered two Kosher Style Hot Dogs and a serving of the Five Guys Style fries and Cajun Fries. The hot dogs came in at just about $8.00 each. A bit pricey at first glance, but considering current prices in this economy and the reputation of this place, I figured it would be worth the money. Not quite. The hot dogs were run of the mill hot dogs, like the ballpark franks you can buy in the local supermarket. Nothing special. I was told after ordering that they ran out of hot dog buns, so asked me if a hamburger bun was okay. Sure. At least the line cook sliced the dogs to fit the bun (butterflied and then cut in half), so that was nice. It had a nice grilled flavor, but, again, nothing special. Also, it was just about the size of a supermarket bought wiener. That hot dog, overall, was a bummer. The fries... they were both overly salty. When I mean salty, it was SALTY. That was for both the Five Guys Style and the Cajun Style. Speaking of the Cajun Style, it tasted like it was coated in cajun seasoning from the supermarket, but, you guessed it, saltier. Also, the orders of fries were both soggy upon being given (I sampled some right after getting it) and it tasted as if it were cooked in oil that needed to be changed. Overall, the hype was just that - hype. Must try? No. If you have a hankering for something different, or expect your taste buds to be wowed, get that out of your head before you go. Temper your expectations and expect to pay more for something that is at best, ordinary, or even underwhelming. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this establishment to family or friends. Buns hold up really well to how much is stacked inside of it. The Cajun fries are always hot, fresh made & well seasoned. Top it off with one of the milkshakes, yum! The only downside is that it's a bit pricey for "burgers" so it's definitely a treat when I stop in. Service: always friendly and quick on their feet. Food gets out at a decent time. I mean I got a little bacon burger, little fries and regular drink and it set me back $16. It's little because that's what it's called on the menu. But for that amount of food and the taste and quality, heck I think there are alternatives for half the cost. Ok. I may be old. But I did hear of Five Guys burgers before and all the hype. But really, who are they? we ended up at Five Guys burger by, oops because Kua Aina closed down. I think Five Guys burger is over rated, to say the least, it's very pricey. The burgers are nothing special, but you can add all the "extras" at no additional charge, (I think you should) because the burgers are not cheap!!!! The fries were really, really salty. The inside has a few seats with a few umbrella-covered tables outdoors. MENU: Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, milkshakes. FOOD: Cheeseburger - $10.39. Pricey but you get its unlimited toppings. I had no idea that this was a double cheeseburger until I opened up the bag. I was wanting a small snack not an entire meal! Oh well. I got mine with mayo, pickles, grilled onions and mushrooms. The burger was good! Big, juicy and really non-fast food-tasting. Fries - little $4.19, regular $5.69, large $7.89. Available in Cajun which I got, and Five Guys Style which I have no details on. Wow, my ala carte meal is sure adding up at this point! My "little" size was anything but. It's a huge cup that's good enough for two to share, this coming from a guy who always orders large fries if possible, which I couldn't finish. The seasoning had a nice herby kick to it but wasn't spicy at all. Soda - regular $3.29, large $3.69. I think refills are free, though I didn't see any signs nor did I get scolded for doing so. Grand total for just me was $18.71. Pricey for a casual-fast spot, and almost similar in price to a traditional restaurant. SERVICE: Christian was the smiley and friendly guy who helped me. Food delivery took about 8 minutes at non-peak time. TIP: "Little" on their menu means regular. Don't be fooled by thinking they're kid sizes. OVERALL: Simple menu, good burgers. I got the Little Bacon Cheeseburger with mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and ketchup. It's pretty much all of the free toppings listed in black except the mustard. The burger with the mix of toppings was awesome. My husband doesn't eat meat and opted for the grilled cheese sandwich. You can't really mess up a grilled cheese sandwich. It's two pieces of bread with a slice of cheddar cheese in the middle. He didn't think that it was worth it for $5.99. The fries weren't my fave. It was the thicker variety and wasn't too crispy. They need to fry it longer. It was my first time using the malt vinegar on my fries with the ketchup. I liked it. Their milkshakes are so good. It's creamy and not overly sweet. I got the salted caramel and loved it. They also offer complimentary roasted peanuts. It's in a huge cardboard box. You can just help yourself. What's my verdict? This place is highly overpriced. I paid $27 for a little burger, grilled cheese sandwich, fries, and a shake. I'm giving it four stars because I like the burger and shake. My family and I have always loved 5 guys, we've been coming here for years. Generally every Sunday afternoon right after Pastor Harold's sermon. I've always got the best service and always give them a nice tip. However these last few Sundays I've gone, I've gotten terrible costumer service, and my buns were always soggy. My little girl is a vegan and doesn't like anything on her burger except for the bun and cheese, but they gave her a patty and she was distraught. This was my very first time trying Five Guys! I have to say... it was good. A lot of the tables were left somewhat dirty from previous patrons, but for the most part, the place was clean. It was noon-ish when we went. I guess, being that it is a weekday, it wasn't busy. On one end of the place, there were two workers (one in a black shirt and the other in a red shirt). A lone male worker was behind the counter. He was very polite and took the time to explain their menu and how to order. After taking our order, he went to cook! The other two...just stayed seated. I guess, they were on lunch or a really long break. More people started to come in... a family left because the poor guy couldn't run back and forth between the grill, the fryer and the cash register fast enough. The other two...just kept sitting and talking. Ugh!!! We got our food... it was delicious! I would've given this place 5 stars, but it really bothered me that the poor guy was running around like a chicken without its head... and the other two workers didn't even make an attempt to help him. Gave the place 4 stars - just because that guy really busted his okole to do everything! And tonite we decided to visit the Kapolei location and I must say I was extremely disappointed. From ordering to pick up, the staff was very unpleasant and unfriendly. I received my burger and fries and it was just messy, the fries were all over the bag which greased the paper bag down to where the oil was all over my son's clothing. I am actually quite APPALLED at the way this restaurant is handling the COVID-19 safety precautions. I watched a guy lean OVER the safety glass breathing and talking over all the food being prepared. This man was NOT wearing a mask, but did the employees correct him? No. They continued to talk to him and joke around with him. Saw a Carl's Jr. commercial last night and wife and I started craving for a big, juicy burger, so we decided on Five Guys for dinner the next day. All day at work, all I could think about was the Bacon cheeseburger from Five Guys. I even skipped lunch and didn't snack. I rushed home, cutting off at least five cars on the freeway. Everything she orders is there. I look at the receipt. Sure enough, says lettuce, tomato, pickles, bbq. Man, what a letdown. And the "cherry on top": my banana shake is a banana juice. I know that's not really their fault so I'm putting this on them anyways. Moral of the story is best left to my wife, who said, "Shoulda ordered Teddy's like I said, fool!" P.S. With all the other eateries around KMA that close early, we decided to go to Five Guys since their "OPEN" neon sign was still on. Although they were closing, they still took our order and allowed us to dine in! They were in such good spirits too; dancing around while they cleaned and cooked our last minute order! I feel a moralburger (yes I made that word up) to update my previous review to not only reflect this great burger establishment, but to also hopefully counteract the negative reviews that I just can't wrap my head around. I understand everyone has their own opinions, but it seems the big complaint from everyone is the prices. Although I agree the prices are pretty outrageous, even for a chain, I feel their burger are far superior to any others on the island...especially Teddy's. I, too, have had the pleasure of enjoying this and many other mainland burger chains prior to moving to the island about 20 years ago. I am a self-proclaimed burger connoisseur. Even on the mainland, I would drive an hour one way at least once a month to enjoy a mouth-watering Five Guys burger. So, suffice to say, when I did finally make the move to Hawai'i, one of my first orders of business was to find a great burger place. For years and years, nothing could satisfy my burger palate (including the state-loved Teddy's) until I discovered Kua Aina. Then for years I would make a weekly trek from Ewa to Haleiwa just for their goodness. Then alas! A Kua Aina in Kapolei! And then...Five Guys in Mililani! And now...all Kua Aina locations have closed except the Haleiwa location and now there is a Five Guys right here on the edge of Ewa in Kapolei. SO...finally, after all these years, I can finally say that my craving for amazing burgers on the island has finally been satisfied. Parking seems a plenty, that is, until The Cheesecake Factory opened up across the lot at Ka Makana Ali'i. Now it's a wait game...unless you feel like getting your cardio on before and after your meal...which is not a bad idea in my burger-lovin' case haha. The hours work out great for my night-owl self: they are open until 10pm. As of late, I have also been utilizing their app and ordering my burger and shake just as I like it so it's just about ready when I arrive! In their defense, they don't cook your fries or make your shake until you arrive so your fries are fresh and your shake is not melted!! The staff lately has been superb...excellent service, great attitudes, and the restaurant has been pretty spotless! So yeah, despite the steep prices, I love this place and vouch for its amazing burgers and shakes! The fries can be hit or miss but hey, I come for the burgers anyway. Being stuck on this speck of land in the middle of nowhere often means getting franchises last. So having a Five Guys open up is amazing-balls (in theory). But...I'm still a townie and Kapolei is just too far for just a burger, even if it's Five Guys. Luckily, my recent family vacation was out in Aulani so of course a lunch detour had to be made! The prices for a Five Guys franchise burger meal are fairly stiff in a way that not even the free peanuts can make up for. BUT since I was here, I figure, go big or go home! Thus my $20 small fries, small drink, double patty bacon cheeseburger was quickly in hand after no line and me impatiently watching my burger getting cooked. At this point, the smell was heavenly and I couldn't wait to dig in. The first bite (and every bite after) was... underwhelming. Not like "oh this is just okay" more like "how much did I pay for this? Are you kidding me?" kind of underwhelming. The burger was on the drier side and the flavor was somewhat lacking. Better than McDonald's, but then again, like four times as the price. Teddy's Bigger Burger hands down beats this for less money and it's a local franchise. Even with unlimited toppings, I can't justify the quality and flavor of this burger to its price. And the cheese was barely melted, if melted at all. I don't even remember the bacon and I love bacon. Not a good sign. My cousin who's living on the mainland who flew in for the vacation looked at my receipt and couldn't believe how much it cost. The fries were just okay, with a number of them being squishy and not crisp and I dug into my meal less than 2 minutes after getting it. Fries are thicker than your average burger joint and decently salted. At least the soda machine had a huge number of options. The fact that I'm even mentioning that isn't good. Soda as the highlight? Get there tonight 6:30 pm and there is no sign and the lights are off. I call and someone answers and I asked if they are closed she says yes. Stopped by to try the burgers for the first time. I have to say they taste delicious and are everything I love about a cheeseburger, however the prices are insane here in Hawaii. I ordered a cheeseburger, small fries and med drink = $19.00 As good as it was, I sure can't let myself spend that much on a burger combo! read more
