Not usually a chain restaurant/fast food type of person, but Five Guys is a perennial favorite for us. Great burgers and dogs, love that you can load on the toppings and the french fry portions are gargantuan. Free peanuts, too! Disappointed recently that the mallside location was apparently not doing hot dogs (or so said the website) and we had to go down to Biddeford for that particular craving. They have the widest variety of toppings that I have ever seen including bacon, hot peppers, mushrooms, sweet peppers, onions, tomato, lettuce, etc. If the burgers were any fresher they would still be grazing in a field. Fantastic fries made from scratch in the restaurant. What does not fit in your fry bag they toss into your sandwich bag. Dispense your own soda with refills. Mix whatever you want like vanilla cola, cherry root beer, etc. Peanuts in shells to snack on while waiting. read more

Very centrally located, and for those leaving Planet Fitness, it's a temptation. Ample parking, there are two entrances, and when you get to order, you are greeted with a smile! There are many menu choices including milkshakes that look delicious. My go-to is a cheeseburger with a little fry (except it's not little and they even add an extra scoop!). If you are waiting for take out or eating in, they offer free peanuts in the shell while you're there. I like the feel of the space. It's a very "soda shop" feel to me. A classic fast food place with a simple menu, delicious food, and an In N Out style feel. Delicious, Consistent. Five Guys staff and food have never disappointed me at this location, even when I've made a mistake in our order, they have corrected it for me, without argument and with a smile, understanding I owned it and they were willing to help me, not disappoint my family. I love the complimentary shell peanuts as well, I typically order in person so that I can enjoy a snack while waiting for my food. So with that. do not come here if you have a severe peanut allergy. This location is easy to find and it's far enough away from crazy Maine Mall chaos, however, the parking lot is POOP. Way too many potholes and imperfections and for some reason most people do not park in the lines! I'm not sure why, perhaps, they are smaller spaces than normal, but anyway, it's never a great parking season and OMG, if it's winter with snowbanks, we don't even bother. Oh. My. God. Five guys. My true love. How can anyone say anything bad about this place? Who hurt you? Who caused your inability to love? Don't worry, it's ok. Let the burgers soothe your pain. And the fries wrap you in love. Let the shakes quell that raging fire in your soul. Everything will be ok, I promise. Anyhow, amazing food. Amazing service. Awesome music. Decent parking. Clean bathrooms (of the one at a time variety, my favorite) and an awesome customizable drink machine. Did I mention the free peanuts? There is nothing bad about this place. This place is like the hero in most epic fantasies. Just pure. My order is always a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, extra pickles, grilled green peppers, grilled jalapeños, mayo, mustard and bbq sauce. Add in some Cajun fries, which are always fresh, and either a coke or a peanut butter shake with bacon and you have the cure for ANY possible ailment. Sadness? Cured. Flu? Cured. Bubonic plague? It taste like what I picture a burger SHOULD taste like. It's heaven. Never bad. Now that being said, if you take it to go, that's on you. If it's a short ride that's fine. But the burgers are hot, and wrapped in foil. Too long of a drive and your bun and burger will be soggy. That's not their fault, think ahead. I get so excited whenever we decide on this place. Parked in their parking lot and tried to place my order online. The site told me it wasn't available, that it was delivery only. I called and the woman who answered told me, "Oh, they need to change that." She took my order, when I asked for tomato and lettuce on the bacon cheeseburger, she told me I could only have a condiment and pickles. Okay. I went in because I had never tried five guys before and I've heard good things about it. Well, I am never going back. Your one employee josh who says he's a manager but no one else seemed to back him up on that, was rude and arrogant and just kept saying he was having a "bad day" so he "didn't care". We all have bad days that's understandable but don't take it out on customers at work and don't lie and say you're a manager when you aren't. Maybe if you had more happy, upbeat employees I'd come back because the burger was delicious but I just can't handle when a place has poor sport employees. There was also a strong odor of marijuana coming from this man. I get it's legal in this state but again, not at work. Also it's SO loud in there and if you ask to have them turn down the volume they get extra rude with you. Don't go in if you have ear issues. read more

I have given them chance after chance and get let down every time. Every time my order was wrong I would check the ticket on the bag. There was no error there. I took my son to this eatery after hearing for months and months on how great their burgers and fries were. The service was great, quick and speedy ... only a very small wait for them to cook our food and the place was packed to the gills which tells me that these burgers that my son and I ordered will be the cream of the crop. We got our greasy bag and sat down in the dining area but the tables were riddled with old and stale fries from the previous 4 or 5 people that were sitting there. So service went from great and quick to not so much for germs and cleanliness. The burger that I got for myself was a bacon cheeseburger with onions and it was no different than I would get at a buffet line from some greasy sliders thrown around. The fries (which is what I heard was the best part of the experience) were both cold and not very good ... the container that they gave us was basically dumped into the bottom of the bag that we had so my son and I were digging around this big bag for some potato snacks. It is pretty bad when you go and you ask an eight year old if he liked his burger and fries and he answers with a "It was ok". Wait ... what??? Most eight year olds would be jumping at the bit to eat another one of these usually instant kid gratifyers. So, to sum it up, service .. friendliness and speedy in the kitchen was great. I love Five Guys. I also love this location. They have never messed up my order, and it is usually pretty quick. We have ordered online before and our order was made correctly and was ready when we arrived. I order my burger with no bun, and in a container and they always put my sauces on the side, which is nice. I love that you don't have to pay extra for as many toppings as you want. I realize these are difficult times for all, especially restaurants. However, considering the time frame many have had to adjust, I expected a better experience on Oct 9 between 6:30 and 7:30 PM. This was my first return to this location, since the start of the pandemic. The food was poor....cold fries and burger.... and that's with ordering inside and eating inside. The environment was chaotic! The person, who appeared to be the shift manager, was constantly yelling at customers to stay outside, once he realized the max of 25 were inside. I'm not sure why no one was monitoring the numbers of people at the entrance. There seemed to be confusion between the call in orders and the "in house"orders. Very long delay for food. Also, the AC made the place very cold. I am aware this is 5 Guys and not "5 star dining", but there is a level of expectation. I've been a customer since the Fore St location opened and overall, this was a terrible experience. If you see more than 5 customers inside, drive to Fore St or Biddeford!!!! read more

I just walked a half mile to eat here, and it was closed. Website says closes at 10pm, sign on the door says 8pm.

The burgers themselves are amazing; so good. The bacon is excellent and the lettuce nice and fresh. My quibble is with the generic, cheap buns which soak up the grease and make it hard to eat if you're not quick as they flatten out and slide around. At least offer a nice brioche roll or a 4 grain bun. Also, just curious - I know it's to cut costs but it screams cheap to put the fries in a plain white cup. The napkins and wrappings are also cheap generic Costco paper items as are the plain brown bags and foil that the burgers are wrapped in. Aren't you proud of your name? Detracts from the experience. The cheap, thin brown paper bag leaks grease over my car seats. The fries themselves are good (not great) but greasy and salty. Even the small size is too many. Order smaller than you think you should. * For the love of all that is good in the world, do not eat your fries out of the cup. Plop that paper bag on the table by the long side and rip the top off. I went to the South Portland five guys on crutches, immediately after getting a skin graph on my foot. I move pretty quickly on crutches, but by the time I made it from my car to the front door there were two Five guys employees to open the door for me and help me in. When my order was completed there was an employee waiting to take it out to the car for me. This kind of service is unexpected from any kind of business, let alone a fast food place, and speaks volumes about the culture and character of the business. From what I've seen of the employees in the downtown Portland shop, I might expect the same from them, they all seem happy and involved. Anyway, I was blown away by thier courtesy and decency. Whoever owns this franchise should feel a fair amount of pride in selling superior product in a manner that so clearly shows their values. read more

Well, for those who haven't been to a five guys, this place really only does one thing, and they do it well. If you are in the mood for burgers, this place will certainly hit the spot. Their burgers are great, and their portions are quite large. One serving pretty much satisfies your calorie requirements for a day. The "regular" fries are enough for a group, their "regular" burger could feed a family in some countries. I order small on everything and still manage to feel like an overstuffed potato afterwards. Use quality ingredients sourced as locally as possible to create a delicious product. Very bright and clean restaurant done in white and red tile, this is efficient and quick, casual dining at its very best. Family friendly with access to shelled peanuts to busy yourself while you're waiting. But you won't wait long. There is a flawless system in place to deal with any volume that may come their way. And you (I meant the kids!) can play with the soda machine whose interface looks much like a well-designed web-page. The onset of franchise status can often ruin a restaurant. Not so with this favorite burger joint. Why? Because in addition to quality they have consistency. I've been a fan of Five Guys for well over a decade. I used to frequent one of the flagship restaurants in Virginia and have visited a handful of other locations in the Mid-Atlantic (and so happy to find one here back home). And the experience and food is consistently excellent. Truly remarkable food. The rest of the world is discovering FG too. Meat lovers unite! This is not a vegetarian friendly place at all, but you probably knew that from the name of the restaurant. Five Guys is my guilty pleasure. I have to talk myself into it because it tastes so good, but it's so so bad for me. I think Five Guys is in a race for best burger with Elevation Burger and they are currently tied. The burgers here are some of the best I've ever had. The meat is juicy, cooked perfectly and has amazing flavor all on its own. I like the topping options and I often mix and match each time depending on my mood. This most recent visit I got a bacon burger with pickles, mayo, and grilled onions. The pickles were crunchy and the onions were nicely grilled. I prefer my burgers without cheese and I messed up this time by forgetting to ask for ketchup and mustard. It was still delicious and messy. In the burger race, Five Guys may come out the winner due solely to the fries. They are hand cut, crispy pieces of goodness in my mouth. I always order a smaller size and share because you get a ton and one person could eat all of them, but they would seriously regret it later. I like my Five Guys fries Cajun style because the seasonings just give them that extra little kick into awesome town. It's always crazy busy here and that means the staff may not always have a chance to clean up. The tables were cleaned off, but the floors needed some serious sweeping. Since I'm not eating off the floor, I didn't mind it as much. The quick service is always appreciated. I don't think I waited more than 5-7 minutes for my food and I'm pretty sure I inhaled it in about the same amount of time. read more
