I've been going to this restaurant on and off for 50 years. Great old-fashioned hamburgers, steamed rolls, grilled onions. Yum!!!!

Some of the BEST burgers I've had. The buns are so soft they practically melt in your mouth, and the patties are just as tender and flavorful. The Everything Burger with the sweet relish is to die for, and the home-cut fries are really good too. However, the customer service is lacking. The staff often seem rude or annoyed, and it can feel like ordering food is an inconvenience. The outdoor seating is nice. When I was a kid, they had indoor seating as well, but it seems they only offer outdoor seating now. The food is incredible and definitely worth trying--I just wish the customer service matched the quality of the burgers. read more

Clearly Harmons is beyond their time...The food has remained the same and is as good (I think) as it was years ago but COVID changed their operations and they did not go back to the past for whatever reasons. This is consistent-Food takes awhile to get, prices are significantly higher or different but we all get that-the grab....and the window people always have an attitude like take it or go away-no personality and appear over worked because there is usually the one person both at the window and the grille. It's your basic, roadside, quick-eats stand. Though by "quick" it's about 15 minutes on an uncrowded day. Implies that it's made to order. Food is exactly what you'd expect based on price, but that's what you sign up for. It's a feel-good childhood memories sort of place, slightly reminiscent of the Moonshine Store in nowhere, Illinois. This place was sooo good! We went a couple years ago and I was trying to find a place I could review! I got ice cream there and I'm pretty basic so I got vanilla in a cone. Not to exaggerate, but it's probably the best vanilla ice cream I've ever head. The service was super sweet as well and pretty fast! The environment was pretty comfortable as well. You could tell the people around were enjoying their time there so the atmosphere was just so comfy. I totally recommend!! read more

Rolled up on this hamburger stand and was delighted with its feel. Old school! Walked up to the window and was greeted by the owner who helped us navigate through the limited menu. Limited is good as their focus is keen. The burgers are juicy and covered with melty cheese. I had a double with grilled onions and red relish that oozed deliciousness. An order of onion rings proved to be crisp and light. Everything is cooked to order so you wander around back where picnic tables are placed around the yard. Unfortunately, only one offers an umbrella and that's the rub. Lots of folks enjoy the burgers including seniors and waiting in the heat meant jockeying for that table. It has been many years since I had gone to Harmon's, but I planned a stop there for this trip north. There is a lot of construction in the area right now, including one lane sections of road with flangers, but it wasn't a long holdup for us like it might be at rush hour. I had a double cheeseburger and onion rings. The burger was delish, the onion rings good and perhaps more healthy than some, as the breading was very thin. I tried some French fries also. They were fine, but not memorable. As others have said, they only take cash, so be ready for that. Other reviewers have talked about rudeness, but I was waiting for two separate orders and there for a while, and never saw a breath of rudeness. I think sometimes when customers hear something they don't like, such as "cash only," they might hear differently through the steam gathering in their ears. read more

Simple, unpretentious, authentic, and perfectly delicious burgers and onion rings. Period. As you can imagine from the photos, Harmon's is a throwback in time. It's kitsch, no frills, and totally authentic, straightforward, unpretentious, and of just great inherent quality (like Maine and most Mainers). This is the opposite of the burger mega-chains. Your burger is made to order, with few options. Cheese, double, and 'with everything' are your choices (pro tip: get them all). The burger is just that, a straightforward, top-quality meat burger, on a pillowy soft roll that melts in your mouth. Comparing it to 'White Castle' is an injustice. Harmons is so much better! These are individually handmade burgers just for each customer, not cranked out by the millions. They're smaller than the usual 'quarter pounder' but bigger than a White Castle bite size. The onion rings are the best we've ever had in our lives, anywhere. Just amazing! Fresh onion inside, the coating is thin, super-crispy, not too oily, and thin enough that the onion taste comes through loud and clear. Get the large order, you'll regret it if you don't. All this at prices that are impressively reasonable. You'll spend less at Harmons than at some generic McBurger chain, and have food that is infinitely better and an experience that's truly fun. You leave happy and fulfilled. For now it's take out only, which is fine by us. Eating at one of the picnic tables, or in our car, is just in keeping with the authentic no-frills character of the place. We just discovered Harmon's, but will be going back anytime we're craving a burger. read more

Had wanted to try this place for a long time and today the stars finally aligned: had cash on hand, wanted a burger, place was opened (hours are limited). My husband and I agreed that what we got was just OK. The sauce was tasty but it better be...you were mostly eating sauce and a slice of cheese because the burgers are so small. If we try again we will get the double. For comparison, the meat in a regular McDonalds cheeseburger is noticeably larger and thicker. Fries and the batter on the onion rings were soggy. I think they can do better. The onions in the rings did taste fresh though, so credit for that. read more

Basically I love the McDonald regular hamburger. However I haven't had one in year because of the instant comatose the burger seems to bring upon my body. This place's burger had that similar delicious taste of a McDonald's burger, perfectly simple and satisfying without a coma in the end. The fries were fantastic as well. read more

Harmon's burger joint is like a step back in time and I love it. Truly a place by the locals for the locals and is deservedly busy every day. When you sit down to eat one of their perfect cheeseburgers it's almost guaranteed you'll end up in a conversation with the friendly Mainers around you, usually there's some discussion of livestock, farming equipment or the winter storm coming in. There's only a few items on their menu (burgers, hot dogs and grilled cheese) with everything around $3. Their loaded cheeseburger with grilled onions, sweet red relish and mustard is the way to goad far as I'm concerned. I go for two of them if I'm really hungry with a side of their hand cut fries. Enjoying warm weather in Maine is easy. Finding places to eat is easy. This was an unexpected stop while out enjoying the day with my 1 year old. My folks were off work that day, so we decided to meet up for a late lunch and this was where my dad named. Getting there CAN be simple, but GPS acts funny at unexpected times and in funky ways. Having made it, we snagged a picnic table and dad placed our order. A mixed order; fries, onion rings, burger, hot dogs...the expected fair. The burger was mom's, so IDK, but the fries and onion rings were a hit with everyone...my son included. The hot dog was basic, but certainly still enjoyable. The big knock on this place for me is the restroom situation. DEPLORABLE is the ONLY word. It's down a rickety staircase, BURIED under the building itself and I've been in sleep-away camp bathrooms that felt safer AND cleaner. So the food is completely edible, but if the staff washes up using THAT bathroom, it may not be as sanitary as it should be...IDK! read more

I stopped in on a whim after passing the place nearly every week. It is unassuming on the inside and outside. I had researched the place after my first few pass bys and finally decided to stop in. It was completely empty with just two employees who greeted me immediately. Old milk jugs lined the wall, there were plenty of tables, and a small counter to order food. I explained it was my first time stopping in, and gave my order. It was at this point I realized it was cash only and I had no cash. The gentleman who was working (the owner's son I think?) told me it was alright and the burger was on him. I was floored by their kindness and service. While he quickly cooked up the burger I read their insert in the book Hamburger America and learned a little about their history from the employees. It was a great experience and they won a customer for life with such a simple gesture. The burger was great, simple, steamed bun. As a huge dive burger fan, I found this place to not hold up to the hype. I'd rather have a Five Guys burger.

We had been wanting to try Harmon's lunch for a long time, and decided to finally make our way over there a few weekends ago. I have heard such amazing things about their burgers, but unfortunately I just wasn't as impressed as I would have liked to be. Also, having to pull a long hair out of my mouth from the burger just caused me to completely lose my appetite. I'm not saying we wouldn't try it again, but with the long list of amazing places in the Portland area, it's going to be awhile. read more

This little burger Shack is cash only first and foremost. The burgers are on the small side as most classic diner style burgers are. They are fresh and were good enough that I wished I had gotten 2. Cheap real frappes (milkshake made with hard serve ice cream) in almost any flavor you desire. Very good! read more
