Bacon Bacon burger
Gary G.

Just a half block off Commercial Street, this tiny, casual eatery-- with stool and counter seating inside and actual tables outside-- specializes in smashburgers but offers veggie burgers, lobster rolls, wings, and fish sandwiches as well. They also have a modest selection of well-chosen beers on tap and in cans. -- Bacon Bacon burger: I tried this on two separate visits, once adding caramelized onion to its standard configuration of house patty (a 50-50 blend of beef and pork), block sauce (think spicy ranch), bacon strips, bacon jam, and cheddar. The toppings all worked out great, with the bacon strips the standout by far: plentiful, tinted red from the cure (flavor galore), and both crispy and bendy in the same bite. On the downside, there's a dense bun to get through, diluting the deliciousness and moisture. The pork component in that patty suggests extra juiciness, but on one of the visits it was pretty dry--and smashburgers need not be dry. So I loved one and merely liked the other. I know it's 2026, but $20 for a burger without fries is a little pricey. If you get the love version instead of the like, it's worth it. -- Fries: Old school crinkle cuts cooked hot and crisp, available with sea salt or salt and vinegar. The menu has the smallest at $7, but with the burger it was only $3, a bargain that mitigated the $20 burger price tag. And they were very good. Service was great once, abysmal once (long wait for the check, long wait to pick up my credit card). On a third try in between, I sat on a stool for about 15 minutes trying to get noticed and wound up leaving. Lots of chitchat among the servers, both out front and back in the kitchen. Service doesn't seem to be something management prioritizes. So there's some good, some great, and some not-so-great. Could be a 3 or a 4, but I'm optimistically rounding up based on the excellent first experience and generally good food quality.

Out to pick up tickets for an event on a Thursday and decided to stay to eat. A burger sounded good. We saw a place around the corner so off we went. Located in the Old Port they offer outdoor seating to expand seating. This restaurant is SMALL! Be aware that they only have stool seating, no low tables or chairs. We walked in and started looking for the rest of the restaurant and what you see, is it. Thankful for the seats at the bar. Menu is unique with various spins on the staple burger. We decided to share the Bacon bacon burger with some fries. Beers on tap, various signage with cows, chickens, and a pig to symbolize the variety offered. Bartender/server was social with all and happy to answer any questions. Gentleman I sat next to is a construction worker who's here for an extended stay while building says he's here twice a week the burgers are so good. We shall see. Burger and fries a short time after ordering. Burger was very good, bacon bacon bacon YUM!! Fries were crispy outside and tender inside. Billing is a first, NOTHING comes with your $20 burger, nothing! Fries are an additional charge. Unusual and costly. $30 total for a burger and fries is steep. It was very good, but not sure we will return.

It's a testament to how great their burgers are that I'm willing to cram myself into the crowded little shoebox they have amongst the chaos of wharf street to eat them. I can never have enough of their "block sauce", which is something like a ketchup mayo secret sauce that many places have (but something stands out particularly about theirs). I usually get takeout (because of aforementioned cramped space) but if it's a slower day it's a nice place to sit at the bar.

Been wanting to try this place but it is tiny and usually packed when I walk by, today I lucked out so here we are. It is a tiny bar area and some seats at the window, very intimate. You hopefully like the people you are with lol.. I ordered the house .... I originally wanted the melt but it came on TX toast and not rye so I went in another direction. (Nothing against the Texas, I just was craving rye) The bun is so soft, the burger even though cooked through was juicy, the flavors went well together. Did not disappoint and I'll be back to try more, maybe even the melt!!

House burger and fries on the side

Love this place! I have had to wait for a few minutes as the place was packed at almost 6pm. We were seated pretty quickly though. Our party of four each ordered a different item from the menu. My pick was their House Burger which had bacon, caramelized onions and jalapeños. Hubby chose the Texas burger which he had tried previously. My stepson selected the Bacon Bacon and his girlfriend ordered the chicken and waffle sandwich. We all shared as 1 lb. side of French fries. Everyone enjoyed the food here. The server does a fantastic job. Seating is limited (bar style) so it's not recommended for big groups. Prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for. Butcher Burger does burgers right. We'll definitely be back.

#2 was 2 kids burgers, French fries, special sauce( very spicy) & a soft drink

Finally made it to Butcher Burger. A tiny little place with bar seats plus 4 seats against the opposite wall. Place smells like burgers cooking!! If it wasn't so windy we could have sat outside. The French fries were perfect, nice & crunchy on the outside & soft on the inside.Infact they are heads above Duckfats French fries. The hamburgers are quite substantial. To me they were so so but I'm a fan of char broiled burgers not griddled. Olivia the waitress/ was extremely kind & very helpful.

Lobster roll

Good burgers. Very good fries. Good lobster roll. Indoors was dark and felt cramped, so we opted for the outdoor seating. We enjoyed it. Sometimes outdoor seating gets you forgotten, but that was not the case here. Server was attentive. Food was good, but not phenomenal. Just a good burger joint. With good service. Sometimes that's all you need.

Love this Burger Joint! Hamburger's are awesome! Fries are crazy good and bring about 10 friends to help you eat one order of onion rings! Evelyn took great care of us behind the bar, and she has such a GREAT attitude! So glad we stopped in here today!

Lobster Roll and a Burger

Butcher Burger is in the Heart of Old Port in Portland Maine.....Small inside with essentially just a bar and a few small seats but also offers outside dining when the weather allows. Lobster Roll was tasty and the fries were good but I found the Onion Rings to be the star of the show, some of the best I have ever had. It is certainly a place I would return to if visiting Portland again.... 4.2 out of 5

Bacon bacon burger (asked for sauces on side rather than on burger)
Christian E.

This place is very small so seating is limited. Service was excellent. The bacon bacon burger was excellent! The salt & vinegar fries had a good bit of vinegar on them but not quite enough salt. All of the sauces tasted good. I'd definitely come here again if in the area!

Strawberry Lemonade: Weak flavor, needed more lemon and sugar. Tasted watered down. 3/10 (boyfriend thought it was a 7/10). Fries: Regular salted fries were crispy but plain (5/10). Salt & vinegar fries were much better, crunchy and flavorful (8/10) but very greasy. House Burger: Decent, but the patty was a little dry and the flavors felt heavy. The bacon was dull and added nothing to the party. 7/10. Surf & Turf Burger: The lobster was surprisingly good and actually the best part of the whole meal. 8/10. Overall: Everything felt a bit heavy, but the lobster was the unexpected star. The service was excellent, which really helped balance the experience.

BLT by special request.

The burger is huge. They did not ask us how we like it cooked. The place is small, wicked overpriced, and I am tired of fries everywhere.

On top of the amazing service, the food was absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Luís really elevated the whole experience, but the combination of his personality and the incredible food made this a place we'll definitely be coming back to. Highly recommend!

I had a puffy bistek taco, and it was not as flavorful or tender as I expected, and much smaller than I remember. No nonsense and prompt, and when you have a hangry 5 year old, it's greatly appreciated. Especially after changing his drink order 6 times in 30 seconds. He thoroughly enjoyed the verdue puffy taco, so it's a win for us, too! Overall, a great vibe for a younger crowd with young kids. Just not for myself as a go-to.

This weekend I took my best friend and it was perfect, even in the middle of winter. The deck is still open with plenty of space heaters and even heated seat cushions. We actually got so warm we had to peel off layers, which feels like a small miracle in Maine. The two of us love a marg & taco outing, and make a point to scope out the best of the best. We started with chips and salsa and some queso, which were the perfect kickoff. Then we ordered the street corn succotash, my absolute favorite. It's packed with flavor and topped with the most delicious, salty cotija cheese that pulls everything together. I crave that dish. We split the smoked brisket tacos and the smoked pork carnitas tacos, and both were outstanding. The meat was smoky and tender, the flavors were bold without being overdone, and every bite delivered. And the margaritas? Excellent and refreshing. Exactly what you want alongside that food. On top of all that, the staff is consistently wonderful. Every single time we've gone, our waitstaff has been charming, attentive, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. They strike that perfect balance of checking in without hovering, and they make you feel welcome from start to finish. Terlingua never disappoints. Great atmosphere, incredible food, thoughtful touches that keep you cozy even in winter, and a team that clearly cares about the experience.

That being Chip, Guacamole, and Salsa. I will say I was a bag fan of the Guacamole. I was very was seasoned and very fresh. So for the mains them Family Style comes with Smoked Prime Brisket, Pork Shoulder (Pulled Pork), and the Rotating Daily BBQ which for us I believe were Burnt Ends which are one of my favorites. For the side we had Mac & Cheese Cornbread w/ Honey Butter, House BBQ Sauce & Spicy Vinegar with Pickles and Salad. To start with the sides that Mac & Cheese was really good but the winner was for the the Cornbread with the Honey Buter. The 2 just paired together so well. For the mains my favorites were the Smoked Prime Brisket and the Burnt Ends. The Brisket was good., probably not in my top 3 all time but for sure a must try. The Burnt Ends were also very good. You can't always get Burnt Ends but when you can it's for sure a must. We really enjoyed Terlingua and can't thank the staff enough for working with us for this event. For sure a must stop in Portland when you have a big party. Just plan ahead because they are so helpful to work with.

I could've done without the lettuce in the burrito, and I did remove 1 star because it was falling apart when I got home and I ended up having to use my own (store bought) tortilla, which was disappointing after paying $17 for a burrito. I have heard great things and was really hoping they had pupusas available on the truck... but no such luck. Only tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. That's ok because the very kind gentleman on the truck made the 3 Amigos sound really good! It's one pork, one beef, and one chicken taco on homemade tortillas with the standard fixings - onion, cilantro, guac, and salsa. I will say that the homemade tortillas are very good, though different than most I've had. They are soft to the point of almost being creamy? Very very rich, reminded me of the base of a sope. The meats were absolutely delicious and grilled and full of flavor. I loved both the pork and the beef, though the fattiness could've used an extra lime or two. I took one bite of the chicken taco and got a couple little bones, so I didn't eat the rest of that one. The sauces were good, though I was told one of the sauces was VERY VERY hot and I didn't detect a lot of spiciness from it. I think overall, I could've used double garnish, double lime, and a lot of extra heat. There are no prices on the board so I was thinking three tacos would come to like $10 - $12. Turns out they are $20 before tax, holy moley. I admit that my expectations were high before I even took a bite, because that price point is a little crazy. I am super curious about the brick and mortar because I'm sure it's a different experience with the food truck. These tacos were definitely tasty enough to do some more research!
