The view from this campground is absolutely stunning! Breathtaking! This campground is located along the Five Islands region of the Bay of Fundy, where the tides rise and fall up to 46 feet, twice daily. At high tide, the islands are a beautiful sight - but as low tide approaches, mud flats appear, extending outward from the campground more than three miles. It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you DON'T go out on the flats, since the water comes back in more quickly than you can run! The campground itself is more geared toward RV camping than tent camping, and as such is wide open, with RV parking shoulder-to-shoulder. The limited tent sites are less expensive, but also within the main campground. There is a small store at the main office, and the proprietors are ex-pat Americans that stay up there "during the season" only. They live in the large RV by the main gate, and are scrupulous about keeping the place clean and quiet. The restroom/shower facilities are old and leave some to be desired. My wife claims the women's side is well lit, but I can tell you the men's side has poor lighting. The stalls are somewhat run-down, and the showers cost a "loony," which is a 1 Canadian dollar coin, for 8 minutes. We're already planning a return trip to Nova Scotia, and may choose to stay here again. read more

Customer Service is not practised here!!! Don't book more than one night, and if you like, then decide if you want to stay longer (I have to admit the view is beautiful, expect very windy days though). I feel I was trapped when I reserved a two week stay in "Paradise". Read their terms and conditions and if you marry that with their NO REFUND OR NO CREDIT policy you are trapped if you book from far away. They do not let you in to see your site until you pay the full amount up front! Which we did, and the site was not what we agreed upon on the phone! once we paid, hehehe the "cash deal" for the full two weeks the Manager/Owner Sandy would do nothing for us when we decided we were mislead and wanted out...we even offered to split the difference and asked that she refund us the second week and we would suck up the first week. We were told, close to the bank, trees on one side, and the rest of the campground on the left. Sandy and her play on words insisted that our trees on one side consisted of alder bushes 40' away, to the far left of the front row where our view was blocked when an RV pulled up and was allowed to set-up where they wanted. We had to park in a very specific place to protect other peoples view. We saw the site we were promised, it was open and they told us our trailer would not fit...although we clearly stated it was a 30' trailer when we booked. If you book ahead you have up to seven days prior to cancel and if you do they only offer a nontransferable 1 year voucher if you want to rebook. Without mentioning their name, I checked around to other campsites, told my story and was surprised when I heard this campground mentioned back to me as having known problems like this. Looking at my wife crying out of frustration and looking at Sandy tapping the sign with her pen saying that "the policy is there, well displayed...take it or leave it!" was one of the worst camping experiences I have ever had!!! This Sandy claims she is the 'Manager' only and the campground is owned by a company, a Nova Scotia numbered company, which I assume is owned by this Sandy and her husband. Sandy is referred to as the owner by the staff, listed in the Doer's and Dreamers as the contact with her husband, but will put off the responsibility when a problem arises. The staff is directed not to give out their last names or their numbers if there is a problem, they are not registered with any of the regulatory organizations, that I could tell, except they are in the Doer's and Dreamers publication put out by the NS Dept. of Tourism. There is no recourse for this misrepresentation! Secondly, I must tell you all that this is not a kid friendly campground...a run down rec hall that should be inspected for safety, retched old slide and tetter-totter, swing set with only one baby swing on it (we were told it was going to be rectified by replacing the swings and never was), dirty pool with no furniture around it that opens at 11am if you can get a staff member to get off the office deck to come down and open it (took about 30 mins for them to drive 60' and open a lock), $2 showers and basketball court with no backboard/hoop/net. Be aware of this campground, my opinion is they are financially strapped, they take advantage of campers via their terms and conditions + policies, and they could care less about their customers. I also put faith in Doers and Dreamers because it was called "Resort" and the amenities it appeared to have. However the only positive comment I can make is the view was spectacular. The Wifi didn't work. The pool was out of service, which they did not warn us about or offer a discount for. It also says pet friendly, but they warned us that the cabins aren't included in this. We stayed in a cabin and it was horrendous. It was old, and unbelievably rustic (old hot plate with two burners that couldn't even boil water, very small bar fridge, 2 piece bathroom -NO SHOWER). You had to bring all your own cookware, sleep supplies, and most of all outdoor furniture. There was no BBQ, and they charged you for EVERYTHING. Showers were 1.00 but they were either scalding hot or freezing cold (my father attempted this, I just didn't even bother because of the rest of our experience). There were an infinite number of mosquitoes that found there way in the cheap windows and bit us all while we were sleeping. I have at least 50 on my body. The employees at the Front Desk were not pleasant, -but rude. After staying in clean, simple cottages/cabins in Cavendish and other places around the maritimes, -I was horrified at this place. I would never recommend staying here. I have even stayed in better hostels in South East Asia that don't even compare to this place. If you have an RV, this place is more focused towards your needs, however, the spots are quite close together. read more

We stayed at Five Island RV Campground during "low season" and found it relaxingly quiet. We did not have reservations, but there was no problem getting us a site as they were rather empty (several Seasonal folks had brought their units in, but no one was camping there mid-week). Sites are adequate in size, but the numbering system to their sites is confusing. Be sure to wait for your escort to your site so you end up in the right spot. Roadways in campground are gravel and sites are either gravel or grass. Hookups on backins are at rear of site (make sure you have enough water hose, electric cord and sewer hose). Pull thru sites are located in middle of site. Restrooms are ok - some features are updated in the past few years, but the overall building and some parts really do show their age. 2 sinks, 3 johns and 2 $ showers each. Laundry has several washers and dryers but they are showing their age (lots of rust and wear). Function room was not open when we visited, nor was the pool. Owners and work campers were friendly. Although there was no one else around, we were asked to keep our dog on leash at all times unless we were down on the beach. (Note to campground owners: have you considered taking part of an open area on your property and fencing it off for a dog run?) There are 3 other campgrounds within a few km; this one has the most direct access to Hwy 2 - all others you have to turn down long drives or dirt roads to get to. The view is wonderful, just wish the weather had cooperated (misty, windy and just plain cold while we visited). Low tide leaves miles of mud flats, while high tide enhances natures beauty. We camped in a fifth wheel and would return if our travels bring us this way again. Five Islands accepts some discount camping plans - contact them to make sure your's in one and if they have availability (limited # of spots, time restrictions). read more

Since the last review, this site must have deteriorated significantly. We stayed here during the past week. Don't believe the brochure or website. While they accurately describe the beauty of the surrounding area, important details regarding the accommodations and its amenities are grossly overstated and inadequate. Where to start? If you want to read the whole story, see below, but the Reader's Digest version is this: We do not recommend this campground! 1. Despite the fact that the park was mostly empty when we arrived, we were sited next to the trash dumpster and a U-haul that served as a temporary storage facility for the overflowing trash. Needless to say, the smell wafted our way at all times during the day and encouraged us to NOT sit outside at our campground. Instead, we spent a lot of time at the closeby Five Islands Provincial Park, enjoying the beauty of the area without the added smell. We would highly recommend checking out the park's campground. Fairly primitive, but pretty and spacious sites. 2. Laundry facilities were adequate assuming that you could get access to the machines, which were being used by the owner during our stay. Sadly, our sole interaction with the proprietors, aside from the check-in, was an unfortunate exchange of less than pleasantries that went something like this: - PROPRIETOR: I'll give you your loony back, because this must be your laundry in the dryer. - ME: No, that is not my laundry. I just put mine in the washer. - PROPRIETOR: Well, you must have taken my laundry. And you need to know about laundry etiquette. You don't move other people's laundry from the machine. - ME: (REPEATING) That is not my laundry....and are you accusing me of stealing your laundry? - PROPRIETOR: (Repetition of laundry etiquette advice.) - ME: I did not steal your laundry, and I did not move your laundry. And I do not need to hear any more information about laundry etiquette. AT THIS POINT, I LEFT THE LAUNDRY FACILITY. When I got back to our site, I realized that the laundry the proprietor had just pulled out must have been my sister-in-law's, so I went back to the laundry facility. - ME: Excuse me, but that laundry is my sister in law's. (Ignoring inner voice saying, "And hey, she didn't follow her own laundry etiquette.") What happened next was really quite comical. The proprietor repeated some more info about laundry etiquette, was reminded by me again that I did not need to hear it and that she was not really being a great host (plus their showers didn't work, see #3), then she jumped on her golf cart and drove off to our site (SFX: Wicked Witch of the West music). I go back to the camp site and arrive just in time to hear the proprietor accusing my sister-in-law of stealing her laundry and not knowing proper laundry etiquette. My family was really pretty dumbfounded. I was frustrated that I couldn't just do my laundry in peace, my entire family had been accused of stealing the owner's laundry, and don't get me started about the laundry etiquette thing! In America, if someone is doing laundry and their stuff is done, if they are not there to move it to the dryer, the rule of thumb is that you graciously move it aside for them to pick up whenever they return. This would apply whether or not they own the establishment that offers up laundry machines as an amenity -- that the owners themselves choose to use, eliminating the availability of the services for the guests. Short story: These folks need some lessons in hosting people. 3. The circuit breaker was broken when we went to use the showers, both in the men's and women's. This was discovered prior to the Laundry Incident described in #2 and was fixed at the end of that day. 4. Recreation options are described as water slide, pool, recreation hall and basketball hoop. Here was the status for each: - Water slide - No sign of it. - Pool - About an inch of dirty and insect-filled water. Appeared to need some fixing. - Recreation hall - Boarded up windows and front porch was falling down. Didn't appear safe for entry. - Basketball hoop - No hoop, only a pole. There was a small playground (not the advertised 2 playgrounds). Surprised to see teeter-totters from my own childhood era -- barely intact, but there nonetheless. SUMMARY: Beautiful view, lackluster facilities, poor service. read more

We stayed at Five Islands Ocean Resort on one of their tent sites during a 10-day roadtrip through Nova Scotia. We arrived at around 7 pm and while we had a reservation, we were able to choose our tent site. We have stayed in some pretty cramped campgrounds. These tent sites were pretty spread out, but there were no boundaries blocking you from the other tent sites so it is definetely not the most private of campgrounds. However, the spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy make up for this! This is the prettiest campground I have ever stayed at. In addition to this, they give you a lot of firewood for what they charge. The fire rings are very small, so it took us awhile to burn through all of the wood. The bathrooms are pretty clean. It costs $1 to take a shower (which was the perfect excuse for me not to shower! hehe). In the morning, my boyfriend and I walked out onto the mud flats. He enjoyed that... I did not as my feet kept getting stuck in the mud. It was pretty gross. They have a hose to wash your feet off, though. All in all, we really enjoyed this campground. Because of their website and the rating the "Resort" was given in the Nova Scotia Doers and Dreamers travel guide, I was expecting a great place. It was THE biggest disappointment of our vacation. I had a bad feeling when we were registering and had a list of rules read to us. There were also signs everywhere with warnings you'd be kicked out if broke a rule. It was made very clear to us that there are no refunds. Thank goodness we only paid for 2 days even though we originally planned on staying for 4. We were charged an additional $5 day for having more than 4 people in our RV. Although the park was almost empty, we were charge an additional $8 a day to move our site to one two lanes closer to the shore - a "premium" site. The laundry facilities were the worst of any park we visited. The men's showers were down. The pool was closed. The WiFi didn't work. You name it, it wasn't working. We left the second day (we knew better than to ask for a refund) and will be notifying Nova Scotia tourism that this place doesn't even come close to the description in the guide and that they are completely misrepresenting themselves on their website. read more

The place does have a nice view, but to go down to the shore you must navigate a step path which is not for everyone. The overhanging cliff has erosion so there is a safety concern for the unaware. Sites are layered in like sardines, too tight for my comfort where your neighbors sewer hookup in only a few feet from your door and table. Was checked in okay, site was orderly. read more

I booked a cottage for the week thinking that I could get away and have something for the kids to do too. First off the view was wonderful, but the amenities sucks. There was no pool, and the owner offered to send us to the "Falls". This was after a heavy rain storm, so we all know this would not have been enjoyable. They claim to have WiFi there which was one of the draws for me, as I still had to sign in a couple of times over the week. This did not work at all. I was told I could sit in a picnic table outside in the dark and drizzle and do my work. Not Kosher. The playground for the younger kids was in need of drastic repair and my youngest got hurt on it. This camp resort is the pits. I do not recommend it to anyone and since I had so many issues I still never got a refund for my grievance, We had to leave early because of my work and I still had to pay for what I did not use. What a bunch of ripoff artists!!!!! read more

While we were generally pleased with this tightly packed older RV 'resort' and it's view of the Bay of Fundy - we very very disappointed in the owners response to our son being bitten by another guests dog. Our son asked to pet a leased dog and it lunged at him, bit him and drew blood. While the dog owners were very cooperative in supplying all the necessary paperwork for their dog before our trip to the hospital - the resort owners would not follow their own policies regarding pets - either issuing warnings, asking the guests to leave or even forcing the owners to keep their dog inside for the duration of their stay. It was very disappointing to be on the receiving end of such a nonchalant attitude towards pet aggression and children - not even checking to see how badly our son was hurt or the size of the wound - so we packed up and left right away. Thankfully our sons wound did not require stitches at the nearest hospital but precautionary antibiotics were given. Based on this experience I would not recommend this resort to anyone. read more

We just became seasonals and we had no problems. Sandy & Tim were more than accommodating. We moved 3 times which is probably unheard of, but they were more than helpful offering us different perspectives of each site until we were comfortable. So I figure that was probably testing for them and they shone. They are very helpful and respectful. I personally, highly recommend this campground which I must say is beautiful and quiet. My husband and I live in Truro. As any Nova Scotian can attest to, we live in a spectacular province that depends a good deal on tourism for provincial income. We have a particular fondness for the Parrsboro area, and try to spend as much time as work allows there, especially in the summer. Bay Gardens 2000/ Five Islands Ocean Resort is on a beautiful piece of coastline. It's rarely over run with people, especially during the week and we booked two nights unserviced tenting site at the end of last season for $70.00. Unfortunately, work interfered and we asked if we could change the date a few days before arrival. We were charged $7 for this service by a woman named Sandy and told tersely that we weren't getting our money back. I tried to protest that I didn't want the money back; just wanted to change the date. I was startled by her hostility. We were then given a voucher for our two nights as it was the end of the season. At the first of last week, I called to book Thursday, July 12. The woman whom I spoke to said that was great, and she'd see us then. Approximately two minutes later, the phone rang, and 'Sandy' launched into a diatribe that our voucher had expired and we could no longer use it and 'WE WEREN'T getting our money back!' I had already determined that the campground wasn't full and it was an unserviced site Also, the woman I spoken to, who had confirmed our reservation moments before was aware of the voucher. When I could got a word in edgewise, I objected that the season had just started, and I could understand if the campground had been booked. Besides, there was no expiry date on the voucher! She then stated that she could do me a big favour, and I could use the voucher two nights in a row. I told her I couldn't get off work two nights this week. I'd just give the other night to my parents. 'VOUCHERS AREN'T TRANSFERABLE', she snarled and hung up on. I seriously began to wonder if I'd done some serious wrong to this woman in another life. I called back. She then told me that evening visitors were $7 per person. I finally told her that we'd use one evening and said goodbye. I was shaking. We didn't use our one night. No view is worth that sort of nastiness. We rented a cottage in Parrsboro instead and had a wonderful experience as we almost always do in that area. I couldn't help but wonder if the owners of this privately owned campground knew the woman they had working for them was disrespectful, demeaning and thoroughly unpleasant; plus, in my humble opinion sabotaging what could be happy customers. I called one more time and mercifully the woman who said my voucher was fine answered. I asked for the owners name and it appears that 'Sandy' is co owner with perhaps her partner. I was dumbfounded and began to do a bit of research. Apparently many others have had negative experiences and have serious concerns. Please read all reviews from NS sites before you make a decision to book this campground. At the very least, you'll know what you're dealing with. read more

The only thing this campground has going for it is the view...The owner/manager is very rude...The ladys washroom was atleast 1 1/2 hrs without toilet paper ...We could not even sit around campfire without being told to use indoor voices...This place is not recommended at all.... read more

we had booked one of their two cabins. The view is beautiful, and the park is clean. We were disappointed in the cabin. When we made reservations we were told that it had a queen bed and bunks. It had a double bed and bunks that were in touching distance to the double bed. There was no shower in the cabin and it was very small. The pool was not opened until 12 noon and check out time is 11:00 so the kids don't get to use the pool on the second day if you are only staying the one night. The toilet was also not working but they did come down to fix it. There is also an extra charge to use their linens for the bed. It turned out to be a little too pricey for what you got. read more

I just got back and I was very disappointed. I heard 5 Islands is great, but i think i went to the wrong one cause this was far from great. The owners were friendly, especially the hubby. The pool was a little small but perfect for my little ones. If the campground was busy, it wouldnt of been too small. I liked our site size, and that there was trees behind us. There was no access to the water except steep paths or a huge pile of large rocks dumped down the hill to climb up and down on. Not children friendly. My 6 and 9 year old were scared to fall. (Little one or Stroller...forget it) Play ground was horrible!!!! The huge metal slide is a danger. The banned them from schools for a reason!! My friends daughter fell from the top and cut her hand up and scraped a thick layer of skin off her back when she fell. It was scary and too sharp. The rest of the equipment was just as bad. really old and run down!!! There was no activities for the kids to do. The came with hot coco for the kids, but no games or fun things to entertain them. The beach was all rocks when the tide was in and not fun. When the water went out, it was mud not sand. The bathrooms were not clean and mud on the floors. The 2 showers in the mens bathroom were both broke. Wood was not available when we went to get it. had to go back a few hours later. The only thing that made it worth while for our night was our company. Its probably a really great place if you have no children and just want to look out at the water, but not go in.We will never return. read more
