First off,,,this father and son duo are great! Finding a local skate shop these days is hard, a good one at that. This shop is the REAL DEAL! Totally good shop with experience and knowledge, and great to be able to do business! I thank them for sticking it out,,especially when times get hard,,,that's why there isnt hardly any true family brick and mortar skate/snow board/surf shop around. I was looking to get a new complete after leaving my board in storage at school. I tried looking in my hometown, Oxnard, for some locally owned skate shops but they were all close down so I went over to Ventura to see if there were any good ones. I can honestly recommend this skate shop to anyone, especially beginners. I was helped out by Frank who knew all his stuff with regards to boarding and his connection definitely highlighted it. I went in looking for a classic board setup but left with a beautiful board. As we were selecting components Frank helped me choose between items with his experience and input--which are thoroughly appreciated. He was also to give me history about the board and the area while he set it up for me. Ventura's only REAL skate shop. They carry all the goods you need from skate gear and apparel to snowboard this and that. These guys took damn good care of me and all my friends when we we little fucking kids. They won't try to sell you shit you don't need. They wont act like they know their shit, whilst lying thru their teeth... because they know their shit! This is one of the biggest problems i've seen: non-skateboarders trying to run a skateboard shop. That's like trying to eat peanut butter without jelly... uh. The guys at five points may: check out your mom bust your balls make jokes at your expense But they'll also make you laugh while doing so. Five points cares about skateboarding and about the future of Ventura County. If you need to get hooked up, look no further. If you see White Sands in the yellow pages under "skateboarding," be sure to cross that shit out with a black permanent marker and never mention their name again (if they still exist that is). read more

OLDEST SKATEBOARD shop in the VC! Found on Ventura's Main St. close to "Five Points," it's celebrating 30 years in the biz this year, & frontman Dave has been doing this thang for 25 of those years. Cool bloke, too. My munchkin has been asking for a deck for a while and earned it when he scored his first soccer/futbol goal ever (Watch out now, PROUD Papa moment!)! Now I got this promise hanging over my head that I am incessantly reminded about, doh! (Yes, son, I remember. Yes! Yup! You BECHA!). As we're rushing to the next kids' activity, my Munchkin's eagle eyes spot their completely obscure storefront, and blasts, "LOOKIT! LOOKIT, Papa!" I had no idea what he was flippin' out over but after a quick U-eee, this old man gets the "A-hah!" moment. Full on excitement as we park & stroll in. It's somewhat dingy inside actually, like the classic man cave supposed to be, but lots of skateboard stuff to peep out. Dave gives us a friendly greeting & doesn't pressure us in any way as we browse. I surf & snowboard, but I was never into skateboarding, and truly clueless on what was in front of me, so it was nice to pick Dave's brain on the ins & outs on this "Build A Board" thang ;) For this young buck, I'm lookin' for a starter deck, and with all the options available, we ended up getting hooked up with a house deck (equal quality, cheaper price). Their softest wheels here are 78a, and we got wide cruiser wheels too, HOPEFULLY to limit that risk of "death pebble" flip. Store trucks have a really good warranty and stuck with those. I just got my old beat up board "tuned up" there and the staff were friendly and helpful. Not at all pushy salesmen. They have rentals and they service boards (for great deal). I would shop and buy boots and boarding clothes if I had the money right now but that just have to wait... They seemed to have a great assortment and with a very reasonable price. I would recommend this shop to anyone who's looking for skate or snowboard gear. They don't have ski though, just FYI. Parking on the street in front or small parking spot available behind the shop as well. If you've never been there it's a little hard to find since they don't have a big signage. Small shop, with good selection on boards. Went in to buy a long board for my son. Neither he nor I know much about them, but the guys were more than willing to answer questions and make recommendations. We went to a second store to look at boards and ended up going back to Five Points to make our purchase. My son picked the components he wanted and they put it together for him in a few minutes. The price was fair and comparable to other places that we have looked. After trying my son's board, I went back and bought one for myself. Good service earns my repeat business. read more

Great shop and guys, awesome customer service. I came here to rent a snowboard and some boots. The guy that helped set me up was the best. I'm new to boarding so I honestly don't know a thing about setting one up or even what my preferences are yet.. and he was SO patient. He took the time to make sure the boots fit, adjusted and readjust the board countless times (thanks to my indecisiveness). He really made sure that it was just right so that I'd have an awesome time boarding. Customer service was just as great returning it also. I hit some trouble coming back and was a day late, and they were super chill about it. I didnt get charged for and extra day and the man that took the board back said all that mattered to them was that i had a great time on the slopes! Would definitely rent from here again. the price of the rental was great, so much better than any other shop in the area. read more

It's so cool to go someplace an talk with an experienced professional skater, instead of having to chase down one of those minimum-wage morons at Zumiez. Those idiots can't even make change. I lived in town a few years but I know a lot of people enjoy the experience of visiting a skate shop by the beach so don't waste your time with these guys unless you want to leave feeling ripped off, disrespected and upset. . Everything is overpriced, not a lot of options, and the customer service is poor to say the least. Went there a few times to support local business but you would think they'd be more helpful considering they are a small business and that everything is behind a case with no prices labeled or anything so if the guy suddenly decides he doesn't want to get up, which he does, your stuck staring at a case. The final straw for me though was watching the guy building a complete for a regular and the entire time they were just bad mouthing customers, both locals and from out of town because they're wasting his time not knowing as much as him. It's like dude you own the shop that's why people come to you you have such a bad opinion of your customers why do you do this for a living, anyone who wants to skate should, it pretty clear he has a specific clientele he chooses to interact with and if your not it they make it pretty clear they don't care about your money. Done with that place found another local skate shop by Ventura high Way better that's treats everyone coming into the store with respect . This place has been here for a long time....and I still love this place. I bring my boards here many times to get awesome service at cheap prices. One time, my friend lost a bolt to her snowboard bindings and they replaced it with another one free of cost! Awesome..she didn't even buy the board here. The people here know their stuff and are very helpful. They are know for skate/snow boards and gear. I like how they have their own shop shirts/sweaters/boards. I like how they still put a mannequin out in the front of their shop. Its like a "were open" sign, but with style. I hope this shop never goes out of business. read more

I have heard good things about this place so I stopped in to speak to the owner or manager. The employee with glasses that snap on with magnets in the middle was beyond rude. Horrible customer service skills. He told me the manager or owner wasn't in. I asked when he would be in. The response I got was "not today". I asked what was going on with this man for him to be treating me like this and he said "well aren't you that rapper?" I'm not some rapper, but that shouldn't matter. I tried to level with him and offered a business card/sticker. He told me my work was psychotic and belonged in the bar next door. He told me they needed all the help they could get and I could see why. I wouldn't recommend going to this place to anyone. A couple of months ago I bought my first longboard. I knew soon after I bought it (at a big box sporting goods store) I realized that I needed help. I stopped in Five Points and the guy was really cool. He installed new bushings for me (originals turned out to be hard plastic) and some solidly awesome elbow pads. He got me all hooked up. He was very cool at answering my (re-newby) questions. I've since been back and bought new Sector-9 wheels and new bearings as well. A great place for a new or hardcore skater. read more

So I heard all the hype about this place so went to check it out. Not impressed one bit! A business should create a positive vibe and appreciate all competition. When speaking to the punk ass wanna be skater he immediately started bashing a smaller skate shop down town called Serio and telling me how horrible it was and the owner was a dick. I left that wanna be skate shop full of wanna be real skaters and went to the other and only to find a gracious business owner trying to be the best and most positive person for the children learning to skate. Maybe you should try to be more professional and care about the people in your shop instead of showing your real ignorance of n bashing others. Had several really great experiences here! Great store, the staff are extremely knowledgeable, and best of all they don't try to sell you something you don't want or need. Bought a skateboard here for my daughter, pads, helmet, the works. The pads didn't fit, so they did an even exchange no questions asked. Her cruiser board is so much fun I went back and bought one for myself. Everyone we've dealt with there has been awesome, especially Larry (he's helped us every time we went in). They hooked my up with an awesome old school Caballero set-up. I walked outta there like a stoked grommet ready to go shred the skate parks! My nephew, Jack, was visiting for a week this summer. He brought his skateboard, we took him down to Ventura State Beach to ride. His board was sad compared to my man's new Sector Nine, so set it aside and took turns riding the newer board instead. Since Jack will be 13 in a few weeks, we decided to remedy the situation. I asked around for recommendations and was directed to Five Points. When I called, they answered all of my questions politely and promptly. The next day, I took Jack in. The shop is a teenage boy's dream! He picked out the board he wanted (a Sector Nine), along with trucks, and wheels for under $140. Then he generously offered his younger sister his old board, so we choose new bearings and wheels for it as well for under $40. I walked out with two very happy kids. Thanks Five Points! read more

I'm an old skool skater, and I bought two boards from this shop. Setup was pretty rad considering these guys don't set up these sticks everyday. I got a good proper late 80s INDY 169s 60MM wheels, and some reds, here. Grip tape choices are a little slim here so the stuff I got is a little more aggro than I like. I only give them 3 stars because when I asked if there were any ditches or small spots around they told me to go to a skatepark. My old ass likes ditches, and there is at least a couple spots I found that these cats could have told me about. Locals only right? That's one star, and the other star is because they don't stock insoles here. Maybe the rich locals get new kicks every week, I don't know??? I know I know, 3 stars, well I'm a skater and my math is bad. I recommend them for a stick, not so much for some safety gear, so whatever because you don't wear no stinking safety gear right? so A-OK it is. read more

About a month ago I took a long board I had sitting in my garage for a year. My 4 year old daughter and I walked in asked one of the gents working there who could help me set up my board and guy behind the counter said he would be right with me. Walked around the shop with my kid as we waited to be helped. My turn comes up and the gent asked how can I help you. I showed him my board and he knew exactly what I needed. Very very knowledgeable and super helpful. Set me up with new trucks, sector 9 wheels and grip tape. Haven't been on a board for about 25 years but man this one rides like a cloud through the sky. Super smooth and a total cruiser. He put everything together in about 10 min tops. Review is long over due and I highly recommend this shop. Very cool guys in there with a wide selection of goods. Extremely helpful and prices can't be beat. A true Ventura Gem. Going back soon to buy a board for my daughter. Very very happy with my board Keep up the great service. read more

This is the model for how a store should be. I grew up in Ventura, and these guys (Dave, Frank, Burrito etc) were like idols to us skate rats - super cool too. Many a day was spent in between skate spots watching whatever video was on the store television, trying on shoes (that we couldn't possibly afford), and even borrowing videos from their library just because they were cool like that. This place is full of good people with expertise and a friendly touch when it comes to customer service. Forget any other chain store, this is the real deal. read more
