Huge contrast to the woman with the sharp tongue who appears to be the owner of the huge dog. This person reminded me of the character on the TV series Mike and Molly that played Mikes Mom the cynical, sad person who needed a friend badly. Anyway the room on the 4th floor had the lightest water pressure Ive experienced. all uphill I guess the room was clean and comfortable but the hot breakfast was "meh." The cooked eggs and potatoes and bacon were fine and they had a waffle flipper I did not try. I went to the oatmeal and it was obvious to me since I Do like cooked oatmeal that the person who made this oatmeal either hates their life or never ate oatmeal themselves ever before. It was a watery mess and the boiled eggs were so Old they wouldn't peel. I do cook. I realize Those are Not an obvious favorite for everyone but how Long do they have to set before the shell stays glued to the egg? Scared me to keep trying to open that thing! The Coffee was exceptional by the way. It was in the lobby by the elevators. The parking lot was bright and safe.

To help compensate for this inconvenience, hotel staff did volunteer to help us upstairs with our bags. Also, the ice machine on the 2nd floor was not working forcing those of us staying on the 2nd floor to use the machines on either the first or third floors. Although there is a sign posted in the lobby stating that the property is smoke-free , the bench near the front door serves as a location for employees to hang out and smoke. So much for a smoke free property! Across the parking lot there is a a Best Western under construction so maybe competition will make this a better run Hotel. Parking in their spacious lot was free( there seems to be a trend towards hotels charging guests for parking) and our room was nice with a firm king size bed and microwave and fridge and a very capable air conditioner ; however our TV remote did not allow us to view a guide to see what channels had on at the same time ; we had to simply punch in channel numbers and watch what would come on the screen just like we used to do back in the 1970's ; unfortunately, the operation of our window blind was so bad that the cord snapped and we had to manually wrap the blind upon itself in order to allow light into the room. Getting something to eat was more difficult than it had to be. Yes, Braum's and Dairy Queen are ok; but so many restaurants in town have such petty hours of operation. Why open a restaurant if your only going to be open 3 hours a day? We decided on the Juba pizza bar on Sam Rayburn Drive more often than any other place simply because they're open seven days a week with a varied menu.

The elevator was a little sketchy. I personally, didn't have issues with the staff but the staff were rude to some of the people in my party causing them to leave and check into a completely separate hotel. All in all- if you're in the area.. I wouldn't necessarily recommend.

I booked the room -- the Anthony Suite on the top floor -- a year in advance. This place has a decent refund policy with enough advance notice, so if you are considering the Nethery Estate, book early. There are not a lot of rooms here and it appears from the pictures inside of it that groups/families tend to rent all of them for events, so it can fill up quickly. The estate is a nifty place. It is an older style home, but well kept. You park in the back and are texted a code for the gate to get in. The key to your room is left outside on the back porch and you go to your room as you would like. Definitely a colonial style home with a suit of armor next to the stairs (that's true). If you look closely around, you will see several references to Harry Potter, which my wife enjoyed finding and we looked around. Our room was awesome, with a nice couch and TV in front of it, a small table to sit at to eat, a comfy bed, and a separate bathroom with a cool tiled shower. Downstairs has a small sitting area, a bar, and another room has the long dining room table. My wife and I were comfortable walking into the place and going in and out of our room to activities as we saw fit. We did encounter some of the other guests, but only briefly. There is a small ice machine, which we used while we were there. And there is a mini-fridge next to it that guests had put in some leftovers as there aren't fridges in the rooms (which is all fine because Tiffany handles some of the cooking for you!). My wife and I went outside to hang out for a while because we had been at the zoo during the day and it was 86 degrees -- which is hot for us Oregonians for the beginning of April. We brought swim wear as the first amenity listed on Netherly's site is the salt pool. Sadly, it was not heated and still appeared to have some small branches from the property in it. It hadn't been warm enough for long enough for it to be available. The hot tub adjacent to it didn't have water, but honestly, I didn't remember anything mentioned on the website about a hot tub, so it was not anything I was expecting anyway. We can and enjoyed the back yard for a little bit, but opted to go inside and take a shower to cool off and then head out for activities. The first morning I had paid extra to have food delivered to our room. It is a good thing I put on some pants when I opened the door because Tiffany walked in to set down the food on the table for us. I've been to a couple other B&Bs and it is usually left outside, but I figured I'd not answer in the nude and that was a good idea. We were told she enters to set things up to ensure we don't eat in the bed as it is a nightmare to clean up (and I believe it). We had chopped potatoes, some waffles, and a little bit of fruit. More than enough for my wife and I. The next day we ate at the large table downstairs. We ate with a couple from France that had come to view the eclipse. Tiffany was very pleasant and talkative during that time. I cannot specifically remember all of the food, but it included more chopped potatoes, some toast, and I cannot remember what else. It was good food, though, and more than enough for me to eat. Tiffany also gave us a dessert cornmeal kind of muffin that was pretty good as well. For my personal experience, I look to the front page of Nethery's page that touts "Southern Hospitality Hotel Accommodations with a Pool" that the next page says is open in spring. summer, and fall. I don't think the site even mentions a hot tub, so no worries on that. It may not have been warm enough for the pool to really work out so early in April, but we were looking forward to having a more private pool than one found at a large hotel. The home is beautiful and sitting outside to bask in the sun is nice. Getting in and out was easy and the room we had was awesome. If you pay to have breakfast in your room, make sure you are dressed. You get generous portions and the food is pretty good! But look -- the pool thing aside, which I wouldn't want anyone reading this to make too big of a deal about as it didn't ruin any plans and wasn't the primary reason for my choosing Nethery Estate, we had a great time. My wife was very pleased that Nethery Estate was where we spent our 2nd anniversary together. It is certainly it's own experience and Tiffany is a great host, so if you are considering staying here -- book it.

I was placed on the third floor, which wasn't a problem as the elevator worked just fine. I was handed a set of towels because apparently in their records towels had not been placed in the room, but when I got there I saw that there were plenty of towels already there. No problem... just meant I had spares. Everything was clean and tidy inside, the bed was very comfortable for the night, and I slept well. In the morning the continental breakfast was decent, not crowded, and enjoyable. If I am passing through Sulphur Springs again and need a place to stay, the La Quinta will be my choice next time.

The booking agent helped by calling the motel to confirm the cancelation. The motel clerk and manager both said they can't do anything to cancel or modify the reservation. Military discount given was 50 cents less than the booking.com reservation - 50 cents. Is that really a discount or just pennies given so they can say they give a military discount? Also I was quoted a price that was $15 more than my reservation. The manager told me that was today's (Monday) price. He made me go on the computer to show him the price I had reserved. Even when I showed him, he made me go on by booking TODAY to show TODAY's price. I did and then he offered the 50 cent reduction. All of this required computer work to try to show our reservation etc. only made my vertigo worse and I about fell over in the front. I just wanted to get to a motel room to rest. Come to find out, they could have made it simple all along. Parking for military - we saw one sign with one parking slot. Were the military really honored? I was so sick - vertigo. After 8 days on the road, we just needed some help/compassion. All we got was told there was nothing they could do. I'm so thankful booking.com took care of it for us by calling the motel. Besides all that - the one chair in the room hurt my back and the bed reminds me of the one in our RV as it seems to be well used and old - the saggy kind - and it makes knocking noises when you move. The pool had lots of mud from the working men who came in I guess. There were bugs in the pool all floating on top. Being exhausted, the last thing a guest wants is to be all uptight because the owner/manager/front desk people made things hard. According to the booking agent, they could have honored our request quickly and simply but they chose not to. That only added to my stress. We have traveled 2000 miles in 8 days and this is the last motel we have to stay in before we get home. I was hoping for a peaceful and relaxing evening. That did not happen.
