Highly recommended. Crashed an internal hard drive that had significant data on it that I had, irresponsibly, not backed up to any other sources. The damage I did to the drive required Five Star's clean-room service, and they quoted a flat rate to me in advance. The effort of recovering the data ended up being very challenging and took longer than any of us expected, but at the end Five Star was able to recover over 99% of the files--and I'm happy to say, the 1% of files were not important to me, so the 99% they recovered covered everything I needed. Despite that significant extra work, they invoiced me only for the original quoted amount. I'm happy with the results but also the professionalism. When I first reached out to Five Star, they got back to me at the start of the next business day and, after answering a few follow-up questions, I had a quote and scheduled to drop off my drive the same day. I purchased a San Disk 2 TB extreme portable SSD solid State Drive from Amazon. It worked for just under a year and then it died. WTF!! I was fairly horrified because I thought solid state drives were supposed to be much more reliable than traditional HDD spinning disc drive. Incorrect! Flunk! Fail! Go directly to jail!! What a bummer. I thought I was toast. I'm a photographer and I had a lot of images on this drive. One terabytes worth. It's rubberized and sealed. I thought it was beyond repair. I googled around and found 5 Star Data Recovery. I took it in and they busted it out. They did a tremendous job and got 98% of my data back. What a bullet to do! Cost me around $600. I wouldn't call it cheap, but I would say it was actually pretty fair considering what they were working with. Also, would I learn never buy an encrypted external hard drive. I want to biggest thanks possible to Vahan, his wife and their Five Star Staff. I thought my data was fully protected. I had 20 years of family photos on an external hard drive and backed up with Carbonite. I lost my house in the Palisades fire, and one of the few comforts I had was saving the hard drive and knowing I had all of my photos. Shortly after the fire my hard drive started having problems. I was not worried too much because I had Carbonite (do no use). I found out that when my drive stopped working Carbonite deleted all my photos and data after 30 days, even thought I was currently paying for their services. Please never use this service. Recently I have been cleaning up my home and wanted to dispose this super old (20+ year) computer with Pentium II processor. Since I didn't want to waste time figuring out how to extract data within the hard drive, I did a quick Yelp search and found Five Star Data Recovery. I used them back in 2024 so this is an overdue review. I had a WD Black hard drive that suddenly stopped working one day and many of the files were sentimental assets related to my creative projects. I brought it in and was helped by Elen. Despite the high price quote (around $400) They were upfront and very pleasant to deal with. Within a few days, they were not only able to recover to my data but also transferred it to the empty hard drive I provided and advised me on better brands to use next time. Had a 16TB Western Digital HD device that I needed to recover data from after dropping it. Came in on Saturday and met the owner Vahan himself. He checked the broken HD and said the particular HD I have; the data could not be recovered due mechanical issues. Explained the technology does not exist now to make such a recovery. I'm still leaving a excellent review because Vahan was still helpful, polite and patient explaining the issue with me despite my hearing impairment. The Toshiba 4T HDD external hard drive which I have used for 3.5 years started clicking in the middle of transferring photos and my different laptops can no longer recognize the hard drive.
