I came here with my boyfriend because Home Depot's lines were long because of the pandemic. Due to the pandemic, they had the employees outside behind a table and they get what you needed which was great. I think it is safer for the customers and the employees. They have parking which is great. Friendly staff and quick service too. Conveniently located on Merrick Rd and they also sell kitchens too. I highly recommend this hardware store instead of going to Home Depot or Lowes. Less lines and better service. Go to your mom and pop stores especially during the pandemic! read more

I'm tempted to turn this positive review of Five Star into a negative rant against Home Depot, but I won't. Let's just say that Five Star has all the things you'd expect your local hardware to carry, and exceptional, intelligent staff to go along with it. Seriously, the staff is amazing. I'm pretty sure they can tell you what you need to take care of a problem, and how to go about it. From hanging frames to removing and covering mold to how to eradicate different kinds of insects, they know it. Back in the day the giant storage center in the same building used to be their lumber warehouse, and I'm not sure if they've just moved that all to the back or partially eliminated it or what. Either way it's worth heading over there to see how they can help you, because they'll probably be able to. read more

My wife and I originally tried to build/design our new kitchen our selves. Big mistake. If you haven't done it before, save yourself now and visit a kitchen designer like FiveStar. All the staff were very helpful and a pleasure to work with, especially when you come in with little ones.. Nancy was the lead project manager for my kitchen. Her expertise and knowledge in interior design, color and building material helped with design challenges along the way. Not only did Nancy save lives, she made it possible to deploy our kitchen within time frame and budget. Thanks for the preliminary work and ability to hit the ground running. You made a difficult process feel more seamless. We wanted to support this local Mom and Pop establishment so we went here first. We met the designer and scheduled an appointment to come to our home for measurements. They only measure during business hours on weekdays, at least during the summer. I took off a day from work for this. The designer arrived promptly and took the measurements, then explained the process and told me it would take a couple of weeks to make a design plan. The plans were finished less than a week later and we made an appointment to meet with her at the store. Again, we had to take off from work for this appointment, which is only on weekdays, even though the store is open on Saturdays too. At our appointment, the designer apologized that her prior appointment ran late. We assured her that we didn't mind waiting and acknowledged that things like this happen all the time. Then, we went to a back room to see what this designer came up with. She wasted about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to use certain features of the software that she used to create the design for the bathroom. We never saw the design. Then, she took us to another room to pick out the cabinetry, tiles, etc. The selection was very limited. We have a tiny bathroom and we explained what we wanted, but the manufacturer of the cabinets/vanities that she uses could not make what we would have liked. She also pushed tiles and colors that were not to our taste. She wanted to move the toilet and sink to another wall and this was not what we had in mind. We explained that we just wanted to update the room and not move plumbing and electrical wires. We expected to have at least a full hour with the designer, but since she ran late with the prior customer, she cut off our time because she had another appointment after us. She spent about 30 minutes with us. We expected to pick out the mirrors, vanities, and fixtures that day and give a down payment for the work. We took off 2 days of work to have our time wasted. The designer is supposed to work with the customer, making suggestions with the customer's taste in mind. We vetoed white tile and from the beginning. A grey and white bathroom would not have coordinated with the rest of the house.We did not want to move any of the fixtures, just replace them.The designer was very insistent on pushing her own personal taste. We never saw the drawn design, but I guess it didn't matter. I'm giving Five Star Lumber 2 stars because the designer responded to all our of phone inquires fairly quickly. We ultimately used another kitchen and bath store, which had hours that accommodated working people. We have a second bathroom and a kitchen ripe for renovations after our home suffered water damage. We'll take our business elsewhere. read more

I don't mind driving all the way to Valley Stream because they have a great selection (I always find what I need) and the people who work there are very pleasant and always willing to help!
