    Crooked Oak Tavern

My wife and I went to the Crooked Oak tonight for dinner. It is our anniversary and we have made…read moregoing there on our anniversary a tradition, the past few years. This evening was a very good experience, mostly. Let's get the less than positive out of the way. We made reservations for 5PM. We were out and about and got there about a half an hour early. Walk in, spoke with the hostess and explained we knew we were early. (By the way, there were very few people in the restaurant at the time). The Hostess, an older female with longish greying hair, huffed then showed us to a table. She at least took us to an outside table as we requested. She never identified herself. And honestly we felt as if we were bothering her. Ok, enough of that. Now the positive. Our server was Taylor. This young man was awesome. He was upbeat and personable. Very pleasant and wanted to communicate, not just serve us. My wife and I asked for water, and ordered an appetizer of their Mac and Cheese balls. They were awesome. Hot, fresh, stuffed with pasta and warm flavorful cheese. Next we ordered cocktails. My wife ordered a Painkiller. Me an Old Fashion. Taylor recommended I try their version, New Fashion. Made with their mix of a house Bourbon. Man it was good. And the Painkiller? Let's just saw I held my wife hand, and guided her to our vehicle. For our main courses, my wife had the chicken and sausage pasta. I had the Bison Ribeye. Both we would order again without hesitation. The pasta dish was huge. With two breasts and numerous pieces of sausage. Over Fettuccini style pasta, with a lite and flavorful red sauce. It tasted fresh, and rich. She could only eat about a third of it. The rest came home. I ordered my Bison medium rare. The Chef hit it perfectly. Beautiful red meat in the center, nice and warm. So much flavor, and tender. With it I had the potato of the day. They were mashed with the skin. Full of butter, milk, and seasoned. In addition I had a side of creamed spinach. Very rich and deep. The cream tasted similar to a cheese sauce. So good. I brought nothing home. Finished the entire meal there. In addition, because it was our anniversary, the gave us a very nice card. And a piece of cake for dessert. Champaign was offered, but neither of us drink it, and didn't want to waste it. If you haven't tried Crooked Oak Tavern, you are missing a very nice experience.

I happened to be in Conway for a week, on my own. One evening I went to Crooked Oak & fortunately…read moreheard about the "secret room" in the back. The host very kindly escorted me there & what a great surprise! The Tap Room host, Joanne, saw me looking a bit lost & greeted me. I didn't want to take a whole table as I was just there for a cocktail. Joanne suggested one of the leather lounge chairs & got me settled. She made me feel very comfortable. I'm old school enough that as a woman I felt awkward being in an unfamiliar town in a bar full of strangers. Joanne reassured me & checked on me throughout the evening. I had a fabulous Old Fashion, enjoyed the multiple TV's & ended up conversing & laughing with a whole family who were also visiting. All around, a great experience that all started with Joanne taking me under her wing & making me feel comfortable. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Conway!

Overall, service is okay, but some of the clientele are simply disgusting. A 450lbs man who calls…read morehimself Jordie but his wife refers to as "Richard" is always there when I come in for my lunch break. He pulls up in a V4 mustang with busted suspension on the drivers side and always orders a minimum 10 cups of wendy's chili. One time last week he was discussing with an employee about how he was "Quitting the internet" because of something to do with "Muh trolls" or whatever. The employee suggested instead of quitting the internet, he could try appearing offline. This sent him into a fit of rage, screaming "APPEARING OFFLINE DOES NOT FING STOP IT!!". He grabs his chili and attempts to run behind the counter to grab the doordash order being prepared there. He shoved his wife through a table and dashed towards the bags of doordash, guzzling their contents in, I kid you not, ten seconds flat. He then started muttering about how "this is why I quit the internet, these people keep putting muh life in danger" and made for the door, grabbing all the chili off of everyones plates as he went. As he did this, his wife was still on the ground, calling for someone named "Ken" and insisting that she "Tripped". One child with his family pleaded "Please don't take my chili, I haven't eaten all day". The man proceeded to threaten to pistol whip the small child, who couldn't have been older than eight. He then made his way towards his salvaged V4 mustang and shoved his wife into the passenger seat, speeding off on the wrong side of the road. All in all a very wild experience.

Had a massive issue with a customer. He kept whining at me that I was taking too long (I wasn't…read moreeven at the register yet) and to move. I ordered some wings. The guy (who I later learned was named Richard) behind me in line flew into a rage and accused me of being a "troll" who was "trying to get him killed!!!" He ranted for several minutes about the ATF and how he robbed a bank or something? His (presumably) wife was so embarrassed. I felt awful for her, and for me, and for the staff. I just wanted some BBQ man, I can't take this shit no more. I come on here and see that apparently he's locally known for this. I saw him again at the park a little while later, and managed to get a picture of him to let people know. In short: Some good soul food, but I can't stress enough, DO NOT ORDER WINGS HERE.
