I was pleasantly surprised by Sam's Eatery here in Conway. The restaurant is 'Come as you are' and no frills but clean and comfortable with a counter where food can be ordered, tables and chairs and restrooms. There is also a drive thru. I had the fish and oyster combo; choose green beans and hush puppies as the sides . . . The light cornmeal/flour coating on the fish and oysters and, the breading on the hush puppies were to fried to perfection; however, it would have been 'just' as perfect with half of the sodium content. It was a bit over-the-top. Perhaps it was a slightly off day in the kitchen. Will definitely go back - perhaps for the grilled version of the same combo. read more

Called ahead for a take-out order of a four piece fish with French fries and coleslaw + a Coke. Arrived at 12:15 and the order was ready, fresh and hot! The fish is fried perfectly, the fries were great, and the Coleslaw was delicious. Highly recommend this place. read more

I may have had high expectations but am dissapointed all the same. The freid catfish was soggy and not cooked enough, the fried scallops were overcooked, dry and chewy, The green beans were bland and just out of a can, the hushpuppies were tasteless, the fried pickles were just "ok" but the freid shrimp were good. Service equaled the food: great We had an oyster poor boy and fried catfish fillets with hush puppies, fried okra, coleslaw and green beans. There were no skimpy portions -- all were good sized. There's no alcohol but all the Pepsi products plus sweet and unsweetened tea. The decor was ok and everything inside the restaurant was clean. Worth repeat visits! read more

Dad and I had a great experience here last night! We ended up eating inside (instead of takeout) because the place felt clean. The two girls behind the counter were upbeat and friendly, and actually really funny together! The food was just as good! I got the Jumbo Shrimp, and dad got the Fried Oysters. Although neither of us are super picky or bougie, we both felt as if our meals were the best fried seafood items that we'd had in a while! The breading was light, but flavorful, and the fries and hush puppies were hot and fresh. I'm definitely looking forward to stopping in here more often! Thanks guys! read more

Lunch was great with many options. Portions more than ample and the staff was friendly. This place is a hidden gem.

My seafood was yummy and a nice size serving. My husbands cheesesteak was greasy (has not been in past visits, thus not a "5" rating). Also, wish you would serve fried clams and a seafood platter with one of every kind! Love eating here! read more

This place was a ram in the bush lolol! Did a day trip to the beach and had such a hard time finding a local seafood place that was not on the beach. Everything is fried so that's not hard to mess up, but the customer service was superb and the menu was filled with many affordable options. read more

In search of some seafood, went to another seafood place on Sunday, only to find that they only had a "southern buffet" and no menu service. Disappointed, but it is what it is. Turned out to be a good thing, because we found Sam's! We had fried catfish, fried flounder, fried shrimp, and crab cakes (#17 and #33) Grilled is an option, if that is your thing. Sides consisted of coleslaw and hush puppies. Also had a starter of fried mushrooms. All of the food was fried to perfection, and was battered lightly, which is the way we like it. If you like the heavy breading, this place may not be for you. The menu is easy on the eyes, to say it is not overwhelming with 40 pages all over the place. Pretty much seafood and some chicken, few PoBoys and Burgers, see menu pic. Good parking and enough seats inside for you and yours. There was a group of about 15-20 when we arrived, and still some empty booths and tables. Service was on point, very attentive, but not all up in your business. No complaints. The atmosphere is casual here, so you can come as you are and bring the kids. If you are in Conway, or farther out for that matter, and are looking for some good seafood at a fair price, I would recommend you give this place a try. read more

WENT BACK 2 DAYS IN A ROW..... after getting a below average meal from the saltwater seafood place on route 90 and finding EXTREMELY dirty silverware there....we tried a hole in the wall called Sams. What a breath of fresh air. The fried food was not greasy and the breading not excessive. So when we ordered large shrimp, low and behold it was large. My whole (not a filet ) catfish was the best i've had in a long time and the Philly cheese steak was juicy and delicious . over all there were 6 of us and on both nights no complaints and no bad meals.... this is one place you should not miss. Take out or eat in this goes on my favorite list...... and for those who follow my reviews ; you know i don't take any crap, dirty silverware or glasses and i'm gone.... i highly recommend this place read more

My mother lives locally and we get food from Sam's whenever I visit from Connecticut. The restaurant is no-fuss but the food is delicious. We've tried fried and grilled fish and it's always good! My mom often gets the fried catfish and I've had the fried and grilled tilapia. Earlier this week, we had dish po' boys. We often get food to go but ate in. Good seafood restaurant on the outskirts of Conway. Sam's is a chain - same menu in all locations - and this one was well-managed. It was clean and the wait staff friendly; was asked multiple times how everything was and if I needed anything. They have a couple of TVs on the walls for entertainment, but no volume. Restaurant was not busy when I visited; inside was fairly quiet. Got the fried "baby shrimp" combo, which comes with two sides for about $10. Drinks cost extra. They mostly serve jumbo shrimp (which I'm not a fan of) and fish options, most either fried or grilled. The baby shrimp combo included a lot of shrimp. They weren't popcorn shrimp (which I love) - were slightly larger - but still tender and good. The sides of fried okra and red beans & rice were also good. Overall, very nice lunch for about $12. read more

Great food! My favorite is the fish with huge shrimp! Highly recommend! I've also tried the burgers and fries and they are good too.

I came upon this restaurant by chance while visiting Conway in February 2021. The food was amazing! I ordered the fried fish and shrimp with coleslaw and fries. It was ALL delicious. The staff was very friendly as well. I can only give them 3 stars though because not a single employee was wearing a mask. I found that to be very rude and uncaring. If they truly cared about their customers, they'd be taking the necessary precautions to protect them. read more

So I already love Sam's Southern Eatery in Shreveport and was more than surprised to see one pop up right down the road from my house. Other food establishments have been at this location and have not survived. I really think this will be different! So I got the 3 piece fish (catfish)and 3 jumbo shrimp. I can't say for sure they were gulf shrimp but they looked like they were..... if you haven't had gulf shrimp you don't know what your missing! My two sides were coleslaw and FF. The fish was as good as I remembered and of course the shrimp were delicious. The coleslaw was a bit mayonnaise-y for my taste. As you can see from my pictures the serving was huge and the pieces of fish were very large! All of that for $9.99! I did not get a drink because I got a to go order and I have my own sweet tea at home lol Please stop by Sam's if you live in this area or travel down 701 to Loris or Aynor!! read more

Our family recommended the food and it did not disappoint. We had takeout fried shrimp and fish 2 platter plate. The fish was perfectly fried, well seasoned with light batter on outside and flaky on inside. The coleslaw was delicious. I have ordered the two fish and shrimp dishes, along with three chicken tenders. The appearance of the fish resembles that of a chicken, although it was rather satisfactory. The flavor was pleasant, and the fish was well-cooked. My only issue with the fish is its insides are somewhat tender, resembling mushy consistency.The shrimp was also delicious. The chicken tenders lacked flavor. It was quite bland. Despite the fries being edible enough to eat, they were not the best. Hush puppies were also satisfactory, although I would avoid returning due to better restaurants nearby that serve the same thing, but better flavor and price wise. read more

Doesn't look like much, but so many people like it, so we gave it a try. I had 3 scallops with 3 shrimp...sides okra and hushpuppies. Shrimp and scallops and okra were very good. Hushpuppies ok but need some butter or honeybutter. Husband had fish, shrimp and oysters...sides green beans and hushpuppies. Same comment on hushpuppies but everything was good and came out hot. Service was good. Order at the window, then they bring it out to you. Sizes were generous...I brought home a shrimp, a scallop, 2 hushpuppies and some of the okra. Very good for sort of a fast food restaurant! We will be back. Young lady that brought our food out was very pleasant! Seating area could use a little freshen up but food was pretty good read more

Small place and outside the city, but clean and quiet. We went to a movie and found this place. Almost went elsewhere but glad we didn't. Quick service and plenty of food. This place is a hidden gem for seafood lovers in the Conway SC area. Prices and quality are unbeatable. I highly recommend #28 on the menu. It was 3 huge pieces of fried catfish fillets, 3 colossal size shrimp and 3 fried oysters with 2 sides. Fortunately for me the chef couldn't count and I Had 4 shrimp and 4 oysters. This was hands down the best seafood i have had in the Conway area. For quality and price you can't beat it.
