I specifically stayed at the Pine Grove Camp Site. It has a lot of large mature trees, 4 bathroom facilities, plenty of camping areas, and an extremely large fire pit/picnic area. It's in walking distance to both Doughnut Falls and Dog Lake, plus it's a short drive to Solitude, Brighton, and many other beautiful trails. We arrived here on Friday and stayed two nights with a large group. The event brought out a lot of people for the daytime, but most people opted to not stay the night. This meant we had more than enough room to camp and have our own space. We picked a spot a little ways up the trail which made us a little too far from the bathrooms, but we weren't disturbed by anybody who woke up early or stayed up too late. Big Cottonwood gets extremely busy and this campground offers a few other group campsites. However, this campground was secluded enough that you were never bothered by the hustle and bustle of others and you were really able to feel like you were in the great outdoors. The campsite says that it can hold 100-125 people. The large picnic/fire pit area can definitely hold this many, but I feel like that many people camping could get pretty cramped. Our group was mostly couples so that would be close to 50-60 tents. I could see it working with families where you'd only need 20-30 tents. We definitely enjoyed the site though and would happily come back.

The bathrooms in the men's side could be cleaner but I guess with lots of young boy campers, they just don't keep the seats clean. At least the toilets are not the standard hole in the ground. It's nice to have plumbing and no flies. The only things is didn't like were the pricing. We had 3 parking stalls and they charged $78 per night.

Spruces is Utah's best developed campground, as far as I know. Like with any campground, some sites are better than others, but you can hardly go wrong. The smell of the spruce grove is powerful, and the sound of the creek drowns out the sound of traffic on the highway. You feel isolated, but you're only ten minutes away from urbania. This is a special place and I take every opportunity I can to visit.

The lower B loop tends to be mostly RVs which makes sense. Even though our site was super sunny, we had a nice gazebo so it's not a total loss if that's all you can get. One thing I must talk about is how great our camp host was. She was great about enforcing the speed limit and cleaning the bathrooms. I think the bathrooms at this campground were the cleanest bathrooms I've ever used while camping. We bought firewood from her but it was cash only! So definitely remember cash if you plan on having a fire! Because this campground is at a lower elevation than some of the other Utah campgrounds, it can get pretty hot in July. Maybe that's why there were so many spots open even though I waited till the last minute to book.

The wide open grassy areas, the picnic tables, the trees - it was a veritable emerald hidden away from the rest of the craziness along a busy canyon. Those days are gone. South Fork Park is still there. But gone are the days when you could escape the crowds. They've found South Fork. And they're packed in up there every weekend. The facilities are okay. Two pavilions, a big field, lots of picnic tables, a few grills. The bathrooms today were in horrendous shape, and there was more litter than I'm comfortable with. Parking was tough with so many people there, and there were kids crawling out of every corner you could find. The respite comes when you cross the bridge. There are a few tables with fire pits along the trail, and it was there that we found our area and camped out for the afternoon. Some weenies, some s'mores, some beverages. It was a hot day, but the trees provided lots and lots of shade. There are plenty of amenities. In addition to the restrooms and rentable powered pavilion, you've got a volleyball court, water at several spigots throughout, and great access to a little stretch of river. It's not nearly as high and mighty as the Provo proper, so it's a good choice for parents worried about kids near the raging rapids. Truthfully, I'm disappointed to see that the masses have now converged on South Fork Park. There are days when you can still find some peace, but not weekends. And when it's crowded like that it takes its toll on every part of a park that seems to bend a bit under that kind of stress. If you go, take care of it. It's in a gorgeous setting and should be treated well so it stays gorgeous for everyone who enjoys it in the future. And that seems to be a lot of people.

Current Creek campground is a large place with 4 loops. My favorite is D loop because it's closest to the lake. Bathrooms have flush toilets but no showers. Each camp site has a picnic table, grill, fire pit and concrete pad. The camp host station sells ice, firewood and some bare essentials. The star of the show is the lake. Usually you'll find me sitting on the shore waiting for a fish to bite. I've caught rainbows and tiger trout. But even if you don't catch anything the views are spectacular. If you should get lucky and decide to keep your catch there is a fish cleaning station by the boat ramp. Directions, there are 3 ways to get there all involve a bit of graded dirt road. You can take hwy 40 to the Current Creek Road and drive up next to the river, then around the lake. Next option is to turn off hwy 40 at the chicken creek area and take FS road #82. The turn is just before the UDOT facility. Lastly you can take center street from Heber past the Timber Lakes community. There is no cell phone service at the lake or campground. :)

Yes, we left them at the shoreline around 9pm while staying in the campground, and we understand that wasn't the smartest decision. We returned at 6am and they were gone. Still, after years of camping in Utah, we never expected someone to steal. We had two blue-and-white Hydro-Force paddleboards, two paddles, and a dog life jacket attached. The life jacket had been unhooked and carefully placed back where we left it, making it obvious that someone intentionally took the boards. What is most disappointing is that this happened in a place we've loved visiting for years. It's hard to enjoy the beauty of an area when you have to worry about other people stealing your belongings. It's ridiculous that this has become something campers need to think about. What has happened to Utah? If anyone saw anything that weekend, please let me know.
