Really frustrating experience with a coupon they sent me: spend $100 save $20 or spend $75 and save 10. My cart comes up at $120 and I try to use the coupon. Neither will work. The cashier says it because of some charcoal in my cart but can't tell me why. So I cancelled everything except $8 of potting mix and walked out to car and ordered everything else (grill related), and found that Amazon is actually cheaper overall...especially without the coupon. I try to support my local businesses, because I'm a small business owner myself, but this was a terrible experience. The cashier was so indifferent. She didn't say sorry or try to explain or anything. She didn't care whether I did my business with Ace, so I guess I don't either. Management, you should really hire and train better. This was 3/31/23 at 9:27 am. When I did approach someone, either they truly did not know what I was looking for, cared less to help me find it or simply did not want my business. So, what did I do? I went to a big box retailer (my first inclination) and was treated much better, leaving with precisely what I needed. They even thanked me for shopping with them. Ace has just about everything to any job done, while they are a chain they still have that old fashioned feel about them and have a helpful friendly staff . If you want to grow yourself a garden and make sure critters stay out of it they have all the Items that will do just that which was the purpose of today's visit . I am growing a garden and something during the night is sneaking around & helping itself and eating & striping the leaves on the Brussel sprouts that have been growing just beautifully . Time to take care of this problem, sitting outside all night to confront this thing with a flash light is not what I really have in mind and have chosen to take another route . Thankfully they have sprays & powders that are organic and made with Pepper, Rosemary and Mint oils & Cayenne which small animals do not like and will run from so I'm told . Ace is the place with the helpful hardware (wo)man! I've long been a fan of Ace Hardware no matter what town it is in. This could be partly because my sister and brother in law own several in my hometown. But the main reason I really like Ace is because they are always friendly and willing to help you find the supplies and tools you need to get the job done right; if they don't have what you need they are more than happy to point you somewhere that might have what you are looking for. This location of Ace Hardware is no exception to the above. I went in here last Sunday looking for some supplies to run a dryer vent under my house and they didn't have exactly what I was looking for. Ken at this location was helping me out and suggested that I try the other store down the street; so I did and got what I needed. Later that day I needed a connector piece so I rode back down to this Ace to see if they had it; Ken again helped me out. He showed me several duct connectors and helped me pick out the right one that would be the easiest to get the job done. All in all, at any Ace Hardware you will find that their customer service is way above that offered at these other big hardware retail outlets. read more

Didn't not feel any sense of urgency for filling my propane tank today. I fill tanks here on average of twice per month, but I will no longer waste my time here after watching the person. That would eventually come out after being call to continue to stock some minuscule items on the retail shelves. I like to shop where I feel valued. read more

This store has gone downhill since new ownership has taken over. Have lived in the neighborhood and shopped at this store for years. Have shopped there several times since ownership changed--and it feels like a completely different (and worse) store. The main reason for the decline is the staff. In the past, the store's staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Almost always able to answer questions about a product and how to use/install it. Almost always able to understand my problem and recommend a product(s) when I wasn't quite sure what was needed. Available. Findable. Proactively sought me out. Eagerto help. Now, the staff seems to have minimal expertise. Appears to be total turnover. Not eager to help either as you have to seek them out. There is one guy who hangs near the paint and appears to have some knowledge, but he's not eager to engage--you have to work just to get his attention. Other staff seem to simply know where a product is (assuming you know exactly what you need), but offer no knowledge or advice. No longer "The Helpful Hardware Place". Just another retail store. On your own. BTW--the cashiers are as nice as ever--especially one lady. Maybe she's a holdover from previous ownership? Too bad. read more

However I am learning, rather than pay a handyman on every time an issue pops up.When I have encountered a small problem like a leaky faucet, they have been helpful in helping me identify and solve the problem. I love this location, there are always plenty of helpful people around and they usually have everything I need. There is nothing I hate worse than having to walk around a big-box when looking for something small to finish a project, this Ace location is just big enough to have a wide selection, but small enough to get in and out in a couple of minutes. Pricing seems to be close to in line with Lowe's/HD, the difference is though that there are not 5 different selections on everything, so it can sometimes end up costing a bit more. I'll gladly trade 20 minutes for 50 cents though! read more

If you're looking to save money, this is not the place to go for your hardware needs. Ace is expensive, that is an undeniable fact, but for your extra dollars you get exceptional service, great advice, a friendly smile, and you will likely leave with exactly what you came in for. Actually I'm torn here--I'd like to give 5 starts, but I can't. My 1 start deduction is from the fact that it took me 15 minutes to check out of there as only one line was open and there were about 12 people waiting. I'm not going to go into exhaustive details about this place. The bottom line is this: Home Depot and Lowes, there is nothing wrong with them. They do what they need to do and that's give the best price possible. Try and find for yourself at either of those places a 10mm long, 3x1.25 set screw for a door handle that came loose at your house. It could take you an entire day. Trust me, I know, I tried. I walked in to Ace and had in my hand what I was looking for in about 30 seconds. No less than 4 people greeted me upon my arrival, and the guy who helped me walked me to the exact spot that the item was in, tested it in my door handle, made sure I was happy, and sent me on my way. Simple as that. That experience is iconic of the entire Ace experience in that the guys know their stuff, they are HAPPY to help, and they have a lot more in stock than what meets the eye. Bait and Switch warning - Ace Hardware Chastain! Normally we love this store, where we have been loyal and regular customers for more than 16 years. However today's unusual and aggravating experience at the store has prompted us to find another favorite hardware store. Here is what happened - as loyal customers, we received Ace's Cyber Monday in-store coupon by email, and added a stop at the store to our long list of stores to visit over the heavy holiday shopping weekend. Parking at the store was crowded and the lines in the store we long, but we like to support small businesses and this store is one of our favorites, so we waited patiently and eventually reached the front of the line. When we presented our Cyber Monday email coupon for 15% off, the cashier told us that she would not accept it - she said that store owner, Michael Harwell, had just implemented a new policy, and would not allow cashiers to accept Cyber Monday coupons from customers' emails unless they were hard-printed by the customer on paper. We pointed out that the coupon makes no reference to the need print to paper, and in fact the coupon gives cashier instructions for how to scan directly from the email screen. The cashier seemed embarrassed and called for a supervisor to make an exception. Surly supervisor, J.J., came to the cashier desk and also refused to honor the emailed coupon, citing new orders from the owner. He said that to get the promised Cyber Monday discount we were holding in our hands, we would need to leave the store, drive home, connect our cell phone to a printer, print an image of the coupon to hard paper, return to the store with a paper copy of the email from Ace, and only then would he refund the amount of the 15% discount - those were the specific orders of store owner, Michael Harwell. While this seemed to be a colossal waste of time, and very stressful on a family on day three of tiring holiday shopping, we were counting on the discount Ace promised us. (Not a single other store in Atlanta we visited refused to honor their own emailed coupons - only Ace Hardware Chastain). So we went home, figured out how to connect a cell phone to a printer, printed the cyber coupon to hard paper, drove back to Ace Hardware, drove around their parking lot to find an open space, went back into the store, and stood in a long line again to get to the same cashier. When we reached the front of the line she then told us that she is not trained to do the discount adjustments, and pointed us to another line of customers waiting for "Customer Service". We then went to that line and waited to be served. When we reached the front of that line, the cashier at "Customer Service" also could not make the adjustment, but she called for supervisor, J.J. Once again we had to deal with this unhappy, and notably unfriendly, supervisor - J.J. made the $14.00 adjustment without ever uttering the words please, thank-you, sorry for the inconvenience/long waits in line, or even so much as making eye contact. He seemed to take some delight in having made us waste so much of our holiday shopping time to get the $14.00 discount which brought us into the store. As retired people, the discount was important, so we patiently jumped through all the hoops that J.J. required, but it was a bit off-putting to be sure. We will not be back. The sad part of this story is that we have been Ace Hardware fans for decades and regular customers of this location for more than 15 years. Until today, when we have thought of Ace Hardware, we have thought of great, friendly service, experienced advice, well stocked selection of merchandise, competitive pricing, local neighborhood small business to support etc. Now, however, when we think of Ace Hardware Chastain, it will be hard to forget the ugly experience with employee J.J., and the completely unnecessary, stressful, and silly way in which he made us waste an hour of our time just to get the discount that Ace promised by email. Years of customer loyalty can be destroyed with one terrible experience - today we had ours at Michael Harwell's Ace Hardware Chastain. read more

Don't use this Ace for any Stihl purchases. I purchased a battery operated hedge trimmer from them several years ago. Later that year a received a recall notice from Stihl.... I misplaced my letter but when I was in Ace asked about the recall and was advised there was no recall on hedge trimmers... okay fine I must have dreamed it. Last week I was cleaning out a drawer and found my letter.. Back to Ace per the instructions. Ace refused to swap my hedge trimmer out even though Stihl has this recall listed on their website. A quick call to Stihl confirmed the unit was to be returned and replaced and Stihl was nice enough to call Georgia Chain Saw to have a replacement waiting for me when I got there. Ace claims they called Stihl and were told no... odd that a lowly consumer customer can call a company and get treated so well and a big dealer like Ace can't... Clearly these folks don't want my business or yours. read more

The best!! They have everything here, and a skilled and experienced staff that can find it and show you how to use it. The way great hardware stores used to be -- a rare find these days. They have a second location in Toco Hills shopping center that's a little older but also exceptional in terms of service and selection. The thing that sets these stores above the rest is their incredibly helpful staff. I'm not sure they're any more expensive than the big box chains but if they are I'll gladly pay a few extra pennies for their professional expertise, advice and vast selection. I just purchased a home by this Ace Hardware a few months ago and have made several trips there. The staff is always extremely friendly on top of being helpful and knowledgeable. Their customer service is top notch. I've never walked in without being greeted and the salespeople actually guided me to the right item for my specific needs...not just the most expensive one. Best "small town" customer service I have received in a long time! This weekend I was hosting a party for my fathers 80th birthday at my home. Although it hasn't rained in Atlanta in at least two months, this week it decided to monsoon and my yard (including the grass underneath the tent I had rented) was flooding. I was stressed and desperate to figure out a way to be able to pull this party off. I made multiple trips to Ace Chastain on Friday and Saturday, where JJ and Denzel went above and beyond to help me find solutions, some quite creative, to stop the flooding and allow me to use my yard for the party. They were so kind and helpful and found ways to help me out rather than say "sorry lady...good luck". In the last 10 years that I have been frequenting Ace Chastain, I have always received excellent service but this time they were notably exceptional! Thank you JJ and Denzel! read more

These guys have always been the best in service and the prices are as good as anywhere. I have two incidents worthy of Yelping over. Several years ago I went in to buy a leaf blower and the guy asked what happened to my old one. Long story short, he knew the manufacturer and an issue with it and told me how to fix it. It was a simple fix and that blower lasted 5 more years!! Ok, fast forward to present. I bought a Green Egg from Ace and the felt liner melted after 3 months. I stopped in the store and they offered to come out and repair it at NO CHARGE. An in home FREE service call. How can it get any better. They should get 6 stars. Who does that nowadays? read more

Again, I turn into a zombie when I walk into an ACE (or any hardware store for that matter). Just aimlessly walking the aisles forgetting what I originally came in for. There may even be some drool involved. I could browse a hardware store for half the day and never get bored. Once you walk into this ACE you see all the Big Green Eggs. To the right of that is a full wall with a rack from floor to ceiling covered in large power tools. Later, he did not come back to fix it as promised (who would want him to) and then offers to pay half of the necessitated repair cost - AND DIDN'T.
