This beach is so unique in comparison to almost every other FL beach, and I love it for that! The…read moresand is this cool orangish color because it's a mix of actual sand and crushed sea shells, and it almost gives you this other-worldly feel.. It's also really spongey so it's a good workout just to walk a ways. I felt much more at peace here than some other beaches- it's not as touristy so it's much more chill than some of the more mainstream FL beaches and it's a great change up. There are huge waves- perfect for surfing or boogey boarding. But that being said, the waves hit the shore pretty hard even up close so just something to be aware of if you're bringing kids. They have a big pier to fish off of and bathrooms and rinse station. Right across the street (A1A) all along the road there are dozens of restaurants, shops, and other businesses all within walking distance of the beach, it's so cool and nice to have everything so close by! Flagler is also a half hour from St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, so it's a great place to stay for a few days that's quieter but you can still see more of the coast. I think this is one of the coolest beachtowns I've been to yet. You gotta come here at least once just to experience how different it is!

We take advantage of this a few times a month, our dog absolutely loves the water and sand and it's never crowded. Note that they do require you to keep your pet on a leash but we always bring our long-line leash so he can roam around. As far as the main "boardwalk" area of Flagler, there's plenty to see and do. We like to sit near the pier and watch the surfers catch waves. There's definitely a friendly, old-school hippy-surfer vibe in Flagler that I love. A few fun beach bars that have outside seating with views of the ocean that make for a great lunch spot. One of my favorite things about Flagler is the drive to get there, take the A1A for a scenic ride up (or down) the coast, it's a real crowd-pleaser for out-of-town guests, they'll love the views! Overall, don't miss checking out this little gem of a city, you won't be disappointed.

They had rental prices that didn't break the bank, and while I was there the owner introduced me to a few of the locals and gave me the downlow on where to hang out around town. He's a genuinely good dude. Also for a smaller coastal town Flagler is a lot cooler spot than I originally thought it would be. Perfect for just chilling out by the beach without getting price gouged everywhere you go.

Loved seeing the sunrise and the beach view was so pretty. At the time, they were doing construction by the pier, so I walked under it to see the sunrise r with no obstructions. There was street parking with no parking fees here. One half of this beach is dog friendly and the other is not so make sure to check that out online. We didn't stay on the beach just visited and walked since it was chilly.

Moving to the sunny state of Florida, we wanted to introduce our kids to the joy of outdoors and…read moreeverything the beach can offer. So, when my friend came to visit us we figured what better than surfing lessons? My husband met Ryan Ragan of Vast Oceans when Ryan was teaching another class. Ryan was patient, thorough and prepared. Our experience was that Ryan was not only prepared for our children with right size boards, but had a tent up for the parents to relax in the shade on a very hot day. (Chair not included. So bring one!). Ryan went over board safety, how to fall properly so as to not get hurt, when to exit the board so as to not get hurt, proper board care, style and grace, how to get out into the surf, the steps of getting up on the board. He helps the kids get confidence and comfort. He does not push them to go beyond comfort zone but continuously reminds them what steps they will be doing. He is patient and kind. Definitely wants kids to have the joy of surfing and solid instruction. What to bring: long sleeved sun shirt (aka rash guard) sunscreen for legs and all other exposed areas, towel, chair (if you want to sit) your cell phone or camera for some great photo opportunity's if you are watching. Bring a snack and drink. You will have a break and it's a great time to get hydrated and apply sunscreen on legs again. Don't forget to tip!

Absolutely amazing! I was flying into Daytona Beach on a Sunday afternoon, and on a whim, I…read moreemailed a couple shops from the airplane to see if anyone could possibly fit me in that afternoon. I was hoping I could get in that afternoon because I was going to be busy with work the rest of the week. Ryan got back with me before I landed and was happy to say he'd fit me in a couple hours after I landed. He said he's been at it all day, but wanted to fit me in (we ended up going to 6.30 or so). I had read around at some lesson reviews in the area, and I saw numerous ones that gave me the idea that I probably wouldn't even be standing up on the board that day -- but hey, I was gonna get in what I could. To my amazement, Ryan had me up on a board and riding within the hour. I was ecstatic since I wasn't even expecting to get up on the board at all. At the end of the set, he was sure to push me to get a good one in so I could end it on a smile instead of a fall. Killer lesson, had a blast and I'm hooked now. Really wish I could've made it back for more that week. Anyway -- super personable and nice guy. Thanks Ryan! I'll definitely swing in again the next time I'm through there.
