The whole area has long been a vacation destination and was a popular spot for a vacation since post Civil War northerners started vacationing here to escape the northern winters. It is also an area that many associate with auto racing. In fact, the Daytona Beach area has long been tagged the "Birthplace of Speed" as many early pioneering automobile enthusiasts would head towards its harpld-packed beaches as paved roads were not yet common. In fact, some of the early automobile races were held in the area and we can trace those automobile races back to 1902. Bike Week (and Biketoberfest) and spring break are also popular reasons to visit the area. Ormond Beach has a lot to offer for either residents or visitors. I would definitely recommend a visit to the "Birthplace of Speed."

This beach is so unique in comparison to almost every other FL beach, and I love it for that! The…read moresand is this cool orangish color because it's a mix of actual sand and crushed sea shells, and it almost gives you this other-worldly feel.. It's also really spongey so it's a good workout just to walk a ways. I felt much more at peace here than some other beaches- it's not as touristy so it's much more chill than some of the more mainstream FL beaches and it's a great change up. There are huge waves- perfect for surfing or boogey boarding. But that being said, the waves hit the shore pretty hard even up close so just something to be aware of if you're bringing kids. They have a big pier to fish off of and bathrooms and rinse station. Right across the street (A1A) all along the road there are dozens of restaurants, shops, and other businesses all within walking distance of the beach, it's so cool and nice to have everything so close by! Flagler is also a half hour from St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, so it's a great place to stay for a few days that's quieter but you can still see more of the coast. I think this is one of the coolest beachtowns I've been to yet. You gotta come here at least once just to experience how different it is!

We take advantage of this a few times a month, our dog absolutely loves the water and sand and it's never crowded. Note that they do require you to keep your pet on a leash but we always bring our long-line leash so he can roam around. As far as the main "boardwalk" area of Flagler, there's plenty to see and do. We like to sit near the pier and watch the surfers catch waves. There's definitely a friendly, old-school hippy-surfer vibe in Flagler that I love. A few fun beach bars that have outside seating with views of the ocean that make for a great lunch spot. One of my favorite things about Flagler is the drive to get there, take the A1A for a scenic ride up (or down) the coast, it's a real crowd-pleaser for out-of-town guests, they'll love the views! Overall, don't miss checking out this little gem of a city, you won't be disappointed.

My…read morelast complaint was about the park, but they luckily have taken it out and put a splash pad there for kids to enjoy, which is so wonderful. I feel like more and more people are starting to realize Ormond Beach is better than Daytona so the parking lot is more packed. Overall, we still had a great trip. I love the sand on this coast. It's coarse and darker in color. And for being so close to New Smyrna I can never find shark teeth.

The project was funded in part with grants from the Volusia ECHO program and the Daytona Beach Racing and Recreational Facilities District. The park and beach area are ADA accessible. There are sheltered picnic areas, grills, children's playground with padded ground, disability-accessible restrooms, water fountain, outdoor showers, 134 off-beach parking spaces, handicapped parking and a wooden observation deck. The Shores Hotel and the covered walkway across Atlantic Avenue is just north of the park and a nice place for food and drinks as well.

We did reach therr late in the tide and didnt catch anything during this trip. It was still so much fun and easy to access the pier and fish. I really like the fact that the pier has fishing rod holders. Also a place to put the fishing line you want to toss out. The pier was clean and neat. I will be back this coming Saturday.

Beautiful Beach, lovely to drive on and an amazing walk too…read more Plenty of parking on the beach and at a few off beach parking areas as well. The only issue is the entrance and exit ramps, sometimes there's some assholes that just LOVE ripping up the sand and leaving big ass ruts. Fortunately the beach patrol does its best to remedy the situation by refilling it when the have time. You can drive or walk clear to Daytona Beach from this point, roughly 10 or so miles I believe. The sand is WELL packed and easy to drive. Pay attention to your speed though, the entire beach is a 10 mph zone. Go a while north and you can ride the very same beach where Rowdy Burns and Cole Trickle had their rental car race scene in Days of Thunder. Definitely worth going to if you're in the area.

4 reasons to come to this park. ***NEW INFORMATION***…read more There isn't any fee for everything I'm mentioning EXCEPT the front part of the off beach parking area ****** 1st is MY reason: I go here because it has 2 fenced in HUGH dog play areas. My girls go into the small dog play area while yes, big dogs go in the other one. Each play area has benches, water and poop bags in different areas of the park. (Some people leave balls there also otherwise, you bring your own) I walk the perimeter while the girls run after me and the other dogs. My 2 rescues "mother/daughter" duo are still puppies, full of muscle and need to run for their exercise. (for me to rest because they are a handful) 2nd: There is A children's play area. I know they have swings slides picnic benches but I'm not sure what else because I don't have a child to go there. I hear all of the children laughing, having fun so I'm sure it's pretty nice. 3rd: They also have back to back courts for... I know one is basketball, the other one may be pickleball? Not quite sure but again I see lots of people playing on the courts even if I'm not paying attention to them 4th: Which is most likely you wanted 1st is the large parking area across from the beach As you first drive into the park, there is a huge off beach parking area where You can (of course) park and walk right across to the beach. * BE AWARE, It is no longer "free" parking (just like ALL the parking areas in Volusia county) **The parking areas are free for local residents as long as you register with your car license plate and proof that you are indeed a resident here. ***I don't know what the policy is, you will have to look it up in The Volusia County rules I do know it's $20 a day parking (and all the parking areas now) BUT, I do know it is a great park with something to do for all AS for pictures, I will put them up when I go again BUT, here is a shot of my cute ladies and something strange that someone put up. The whole loop is longer than 10 miles and several people will probably try to zoom past, I suggest pulling over and letting them pass so you can enjoy all it has to offer. Also some amazing houses both on the ocean and the Halifax river to see. Overall it's a good day. And there are more than 1 state parks you can detour off on if you like.

The roads obviously flood and often. They had the road closed sign off to the side when we entered the scenic drive and several signs about roads may flood~ obviously- the water is right there! If fact- you should be careful driving or you could easily find yourself taking a corner too fast and ending up in the water! I wouldn't want to drive this at night. Lucky for me- we drove it in bright beautiful daylight and I hung out the window taking snapshots as we drove by. Plenty of people were fishing! Just a good day to be outdoors. I know there is some hiking trails too~ we obviously didn't do that part.
