We usually stay right in Lava, but after looking up The Harkness, I knew immediately that we had to stay there instead, and I am so glad we did. This is hands down the swankiest hotel I've ever found in a small town. The décor is incredibly classy, the rooms are spotless, and the beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept in, and I've stayed in some pretty high-end hotels. The bedding and pillows were perfect. I usually bring my own pillow because hotel pillows are usually terrible, but I didn't need it here. Everything felt extremely clean and well cared for, and the rooms smell amazing (I don't know what they use, but it works). The bathroom was my absolute favorite--if I were to design my dream bathroom, this would be it. The tub easily fits two people, and the shower has dual rain shower heads. Pure luxury. They also provide complimentary toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion, and not the tiny bottles you get one use out of. They even include bath salts, which was such a nice touch. As others have mentioned, there's a pretty sweet coffee machine in the lobby. Don't skip it if you're a coffee drinker, you won't be disappointed. If you're planning a trip to Lava Hot Springs, stay here. Lava is only about 15 minutes down the highway, and it is 100% worth it. You will not regret it.

We were driving down from Montana and got caught up in a storm so our check in time was going to be extremely late (midnight). Called the office and they were extremely accommodating. The room is secured by a keypad with a unique code given to you at check in which they gave me over the phone. The staff over the phone and in person the next day was very friendly. The room(#7) was the perfect touch of warmth and cozy feeling we needed after such a long drive. There is a pretty big mini fridge and microwave in the room. The TV is a smart TV and has dish network with several channel options. The room was very clean and decorated with cute alpaca pictures and alpaca rugs. The bathroom has a full size tub, full size 32 oz tresemme shampoo/conditioner, small hair dryer, full size pump of hand soap and lotion (see pic). The beds are extremely comfortable and they even give you extra pillows besides the ones on the bed. Inside the rooms the ac has been updated as well (see pic) and is remote controlled for easy on/off option. Each room has their own little coffee station with real mugs. Outside of each room is a small patio table and chairs for two, so you can sit and enjoy your coffee. If you prefer to stay inside to drink your coffee there is a nice comfy rocking chair. I will definitely be staying here in the future!

They usually have…read morea minimum of a 2 nights stay but we were able to get squeezed in between the other guests, which was really nice of them to do that. The location itself is secluded. Just a little off the Main Street but still close enough to restaurants and bars. Close enough to walk to. Which was really nice and convenient when you're driving a big truck and you don't feel like pulling in and out of the crowded areas. Plus for us, on that part haha. The room is spacey and barn house feel but really cozy and warm. The ceilings are high so we didn't feel like we were crushed in a small room. The bathroom was spacious and I love that they advertise items for sale inside the room. The bed was comfy but I ended up on the couch lol because my son fell asleep in my spot on the bed next to my husband. We didn't even stay up for the count down. I did hear the fire works while I was dozing off into sleep. It was nice a quiet. The host was really cool and friendly. Got me checked in quickly and smoothly. Check out was also quick. I liked that they had a card and keyless entry door. That solves card problems if it doesn't work and the host is out, yeah! Been there done that. Not having to worry about where the card is or where I put it saves me so much stress. Believe me, I'm so distracted with other things that I'll end up leaving my key cards in the room! Lol! Anyway, don't take my word for it, staying here is recommend. We'll definitely be back.

From the Brussels sprouts starter... wow probably the best we've had. The main entrees of lobster pasta and filet mignon that melted with every bite, and the crisp fresh vegetables on the side... holy Hannah! Even the damn cheese cake was phenomenal with its wild local blueberries.... We ate every bit of all of it. Then Cesar shocked us with some smoked old fashions that completely exceeded expectations... it is a baked Alaska for beverages. Even the next morning we had a voucher for breakfast...the spinach tomato quiche, made in house, was so damn delicious. We assume it's made by the same chef. We thought we were just headed to your average hotel restaurant, we were very wrong. The only thing that I would say we struggled with was the damn mattress. The most uncomfortable sleep we've had in a long while. We may not go back to sleep but we will absolutely go back for drinks and good eats! The entire staff is incredibly kind, helpful and pretty knowledgeable about the town and even the building.

I want to give a special thanks to Dave & Ally at the front desk, as well as the lady at the cafe- I didn't catch her name! (I recommend the quiche and French toast) Everyone who works here is so personable and so kind. I also want to shout out Portneuf Grill. Lindsay, Caesar, and Dereck were amazing!!! It was Caesar's first night and he was on fire. The ribeye, potatoes & veggies were absolutely unreal and I got a Caesar salad with chicken and it was the best Caesar salad I've ever had in my entire life. The Brussel sprouts were a spiritual awakening. Corey was a great masseuse and the pools were so relaxing. Oh and room 305 is the best spot in the hotel. It was so charming and cozy and you have a perfect view of the creek out back and the mountains. It also provides a lot of privacy. 10/10 will stay here again, and I HIGHLY recommend anyone going to lava to stay here!

Everything was comfortable and well detailed. Having just been reopened for under a year, it was impressive how much thought and care has been put into the hotel and museum. I think more good things are coming and I look forward to visiting again next summer. The only downside I experienced was completely out of control of the hotel management. To echo another reviewer, the train can be loud during the night, but I think once you expect it, it won't be a problem. Plus, it's a total charmer during the day!

It currently isn't on any travel website! The new operator Terah is gracious, kind and totally accommodating. If you're into hitting the best historic hotels this country has to offer don't miss this one! Often, when staying at historic hotels you sacrifice comfort. Not here! The beds were wonderful and sheets luxury! There are several options for just sitting and relaxing in various books and crannies. Roam the halls and peak into the many rooms which serve as the local museum. Breakfast is served fresh made by Terah. You do need to be aware that this is directly next to the train track and the train does run in the night. It will wake you up but it was worth it to all of us. Also be aware there are two flights of stairs to negotiate to get to your room with your luggage. Rumor has it there is a ghost or two!

I stayed at the cobblestone inn with my wife and our 14 year old toy poodle. The cobblestone inn is a cross between a motel 6 and a motel 8. It was clean and neat, the staff were courteous and polite. Cindy the front desk clerk was the one who booked my reservation, I asked for a veterans discount which I assumed they gave me, They charged me $25 per night for our poodle. When checking in I showed Cindy my booked reservation with LaQuinta in Pocatello approximately 60 miles away, LaQuinta gave me a veterans discount, a king size bed, and a room twice the size of the one at cobblestone, They both offered breakfast for the guest but LaQuinta had a way larger variety and selection. They also did not charge any extra fees for our toy poodle. The charge for my stay at LaQuinta was $129.27 for one Saturday night on a holiday weekend where as Cobblestone charged me $349.44 for two nights. I recommend travelers beware of the cost at cobblestone they seem to sock it to you; its like comparing apples and oranges to sour grapes. This was the only downside to my trip.
