Their webpage system is screwed up. I only paid additional principle only, but the system added the monthly payment, that created me a bounce check first time in my life. I know I already scheduled a monthly payment, no reason for me to pay at that time and pay another monthly payment at the end of the month. I paid a bounce check fee for their web system error. I called them, but their CS seemed to point to me, it is my mistake.They dont help anything even though its their system error. read more

They get one star as I can't give Zero. Avoid this bank for mortgage support. First up, I spent about 5 months trying to close the loan. Every week they wanted something else. We were only asking for a loan to value of about 33%, we had verified income, money in savings more than enough to pay off the mortgage, and credit ratings over 800. Still, it was "more docs needed" and no one could say why. Then when FINALLY closing, they tried to up a fee by 10 times! Just an error they said, I said stick by the good faith estimate or shove it, and they backed down. Fast forward 5 years, and we were hard hit by a hurricane. My insurance company paid off just fine, but getting Flagstar to release the funds was another nightmare. If you are very lucky you MAY get someone in customer service who knows what they are doing. But the next call someone else will give a totally different answer. Once we got the final check from our insurance for recoverable depreciation, agent 1 at Flagstar said to send it to them un endorsed as they already had a field inspector report that the house was 100% done. They would endorse it and send it right back to us. After a week and a half, they sent the insurance check back to us as it "was not endorsed". So we endorsed it and mailed it again. Calling them again after another week passed, yet another agent said, "we should not have done that". Use about anyone else for your mortgage needs. read more

Gave 10 days (not business days over the Thanksgiving Holiday with a threat of legal action and penalties) to respond to deposits that were made to my deceased Grandfathers bank acct 4 years ago. They want the monies paid back and I want documented proof of what happened and how it happened. I drove an hour in black Friday traffic because of their unreasonable deadline and gave the branch a two day notice and then a 30 minute notice and they did not produce the documents. My loan was unfortunately sold to this joke of a lender, Flagstar. While inquiring about refinance options with various potential lenders, apparently two lenders decided to contact Flagstar and request a fax showing my current loan information for which Flagstar sent me a bill for $60. When I contacted them, their representative explained to me that the charges could not be removed since their verification process was asking the caller for my loan number, name and address... as long as they passed that test then they were allowed to receive a fax of my mortgage information and send me the bill. I said told the rep the authorization process was flawed and I wanted to know with whom I need to speak to resolve the issue. She told me they technically closed three minutes ago. I asked her if she was going to "play that game with me" to which she responded by asking me if I would prefer that she tell me she was going to put me on hold then never return? I told her she was an unprofessional mess and ended the call. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS TRASHY LENDER. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! read more

Beware! Flagstar Bank has turned out to be the most incompetent joke. It is frankly unbelievable. I closed on my mortgage loan in May 2021 and, as is customary, paid prepaids consisting of homeowners insurance and property taxes. For some bizarre reason, about two weeks after my closing, Flagstar paid out three homeowner's insurance payments for a total of $5210, two of the payments to an insurance company that I did not have a policy with, and the third payment to my actual insurance company, which forwarded the check to me since they had already been paid at closing. Flagstar then increased my payment almost $300 per month. When I found out what had caused the increase, I asked Flagstar to fix the error and they said it was my problem. I was able to get a refund from the erroneous insurance company. Flagstar was reimbursed but has refused to apply the refund appropriately and has placed my payments in "suspense" and charged me late fees every month. I have filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Agency and the BBB which has agreed with me that flagstar has not made a good faith effort to resolve my issue. It's unbelievable how corrupt this company is. Flagstar, do the right thing. There's a reason you have a horrible reputation. For those shopping for a mortgage, go elsewhere. read more

They can be very frustrating to deal with. If you have any technical issues or need to call them, it can take days. Their phones are only until 9 pm on weekdays. Had issues where a banker made a mistake, and it took a few days to fix it so I could access my account because their phones were closed and I had to go to a branch to get it fixed. Your account number was easy to find on your online statements before, but now it's hidden everywhere. Have to wait another day to call them just to get it. Why do they make things more frustrating when they're hard to reach to begin with? I like that they're a smaller local bank, but they really need to fix their communications. read more

Flagstar Bank is the worst company ever!!! I've sent my loan modifications papers in 3 different times this year (2021) and they have still denied my case saying missing information. I submitted a request to US Consumer Financial services regarding them dragging their feet about my modification process. Magically after my complaint they pulled my credit the next day which was Nov 5 2021. I called on the 8th of Nov was told they are processing my account and I've been denied for loan modification but will be provided with an option to make my forbearance payments at the end of my loan and I'd get a fedex pkg. I finally received the fedex package on Dec 16 2021 dated Dec 14 advising that my first payment due Dec 1, 2021. Wtf kinda company is this....I've spoke to so many managers and they make things up as they go. This company is the worst company ever...even a rep told me she had to get off our call since she been on the phone with me too long and received a coaching earlier since she was trying her best to assist the call and couldn't reach a manager. We need another billion lawsuit with these morons I can't believe they get away with mishandling mortgage accounts and misleading their customers. I began my ill-fated troubles with F- bank with the usual notices etc. What I wanted to do was to re-cast (or re-amortize) the loan we had based on the proceeds from our former home. One would think it would be somewhat smooth, but no. We were carrying two mortgages through the sale of our existing home, including the new one created and handed to F-star. I duly applied using their Loan re-amortization form, including a wire for a large sum of money (over 150k) and their standard application fee for $300.00 . I thought that everything was going well but in the past 2 months I heard nothing from them. It was near impossible to contact the "Special Loans Dept." to find out the status. After 4 attempts I finally was able to establish a crude email contact, and after my tone changed to a more threatening manner they responded with a terse sentence that they "had not received the request for amortization". This was in the face of the fact that they had received my wire AND the application fee, which was physically attached to the amortization request. So they did record the accounting entries BUT failed to process my re-amortization request. I finally got in touch with the special loans 'management' at Specialloansmanagement@flagstar.com and kept emailing the regular specialloans@flagstar.com. I actually had to not only send them a copy of the re-amortization application AND a copy of the former mortgage statement (something they should have done as part of their regular job). These people are the laziest, worst bunch of so-called financial operatives. there is NO customer service, NO communication with the customer (or anyone else that I know of) and THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOUR business, your payments or your loans. Do you yourself a favor and AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. I'm definitely re-financing with a far better organization that I have dealt with before. read more

I didn't choose this bank and the more I learn the more inclined I have become to write this review. Should you as a customer have a "choice" you can go else were. We were just hit with hurricane Irma so I call to inquire about hurricane relief or assistance. Lets just say they do not have any. They will set you up on a repayment plan (not reasonable at all) and if, after 3 months of the repayment plan you were unable to get caught up, you can apply for hardship, which then has to be approved or denied and it will also affect your credit . How is this helpful my husband and I were out of work for 2 weeks non paid because of power, I just got power back Sunday in our home . Why cant Flagstar do what other banks are doing and tack on 3 month to the end of the loan with a $15.00 a month fee. Shame on you Flagstar for the lack of compassion for your customers. read more

I literally cannot enroll in autopay with my mortgage. I have tried 4 times and received confirmation on the web page each time. But when my mortgage payment comes due the payment is not sent. I have almost had late payments each of the 4 times because of this. I have called the help desk each time and the representative tells me they cannot set it up for me and that I have to do it on the website but wait a week. I was in the market to refinance the loan on my home. One of the primary motivators was to get an additional tax break for my 2021 taxes. I made this issue abundantly clear to Flagstar when I started the process with them. I was set to close the loan on December 26th but was notified on December 23rd that my wife had not signed/returned a document. I reviewed all of my email accounts and all of my wife's email accounts - nothing had ever been sent to her that she needed to sign. I also checked the Flagstar portal that contains all of the To-Do items necessary to close the loan - nothing there either. To make matters worse, I could not get a hold of my loan officer or any representative of Flagstar to discuss this matter. I sent more than 10 emails and left more than 10 voicemail messages for the loan officer, her backup and her supervisor and never heard back until December 30th when it was too late to get the loan closer to our house. Flagstar's response was that the loan officer had computer problems and this caused the delay. They never addressed the issue with the mystery document that my wife needed to sign. What's even more interesting is she never did sign this document and we closed on the loan! And the icing on the cake - interest rates climbed to the point where, if I took my business to another lender, it would cost me at least an extra $1,000 to match the rate I was getting through Flagstar. I will never do business again with Flagstar and would warn others from using them as well. Absolutely horrible communications and dishonest business practices.... read more

Flagstar mortgage has the most incompetent people working for them in the loss claims department. My first insurance claim check, the lost and waited 3 weeks to tell me but only after I called daily for a status. The second check, they've had for 2 weeks now and can't tell me if it had been received, despite UPS tracking showing it was delivered and it was signed for by the same person who signed for the initial check. I call daily and continue to get the run around with agents giving me different stories about the length of time for processing, how it's processed etc. in the meantime, my home is being further damaged from a leaky roof windows. My next recourse is to contact a lawyer, I'm sick of this company. read more

Two different people told me two very different things and the last guy I spoke with was very rude and aggressive with me. I have 820 FICO score and have had a loan on my primary residence for almost a decade with Flagstar bank and with a payment never a missed or late. (thank you auto pay) I received an escrow shortage request which is expected with increasing taxes which I paid in full and on time. Even after I paid the escrow increase (the purpose of paying is to keep the payment the same) My payment was still increased by about $400 per year. Frustrating, but certainly not worth a review. My frustration came when I called to resolve this $30 difference and learned that I was charged a $95 late fee. That is 3x the difference. Mind you, I called in the same billing month that the payment is due. I was told they could not remove the fee and that I would have to call back next week to request a removal. These are small numbers here, but if a bank cannot give quality customer service to a great long-term customer who is on the phone and has expressed their discontent over what is obviously an error, I certainly would not recommend them to anyone else looking for a loan or banking partner read more

It is now the end of March 2020 and it still has not been completed and they are now asking for paperwork again because the previous ones have expired. Ridiculous!! I just recently had the worst customer experiences at flagstar. I'm still in shock. I was in the process of buying a home, the lender had been mainly only communicating with me via email and very short at that. I paid for the appraisal and heard nothing back for a little over a week. Then I got a text from the lender saying it appraised for 25k less than the listing price. That's all I got. Not a call saying the loan is stopped, etc. I then found out from my realtor and the seller's agent that the appraiser tried to schedule a SAME DAY appt. and was already on his way to the property when he inquired about how to schedule the appt. Somehow he got into an altercation with the seller's agent and the police were called. The home had just appraised 2 months prior for the asking price but things didn't work out with the the person's loan who was about to buy it before me, which is why it was back on the market. The seller's agent reported the appraiser right away when things happened for fear of him underappraising the home. The loan officer told my realtor that he was sure another appraisal could be done due to the situation. But then a few days later he turned around and told her it was nothing that could be done...mind you, he never contacted me until I sent an email expressing my frustration. He will not even try to see if I can get a refund. I contacted the manager, twice now, still haven't heard anything. I can't believe they think this is ethical and that they won't even give me at least half of the $525 back! Please stay away from the flagstar in Troy, Michigan. I'm not sure if all of them operate this way and are this unprofessional, but I am appalled and highly pissed to say the least. read more

I tried to obtain a fixed Home Equity Loan for some reason Richard Lagrou gave me HELOC which has an adjustable rate. I tried to contact them only to be referred back to Richard. He said I have to refinance meaning I have to pay again for close costs. He made the mistake he should be paying for the costs. As soon as I pay, i will never go with them ever again and will tell everyone not to deal with them. If my previous mortgage servicer did not transfer my primary mortgage with them, I would not have opened another loan with them. I was just in a hurry to get a Home Equity Loan at the time I signed up I should have looked at the contract more closely. read more

If you are processing a short sale with Flagstar bank be prepared to wait a long time. It took them 20 months to approve a short sale for my seller. Flagstar Bank is a scam! Their insurance claim department are all liars and cheaters. They took our insurance money and refused to give it back! Every time I called they keep on lying to us and delaying the whole process. Our house has a huge water damage that destroyed both our restrooms so our insurance gave us a check to get it fixed but they included Flagstar when issuing the check so we had to send the insurance claim form to Flagstar to get endorse. Unfortunately Flagstar doesn't like returning people's money and kept on delaying my case. They said it takes 5 business days to process so I waited 5 business days and called back to ask the status. Good news, check was sent out but they didn't use the overnight envelope I included in the package because for some reason they didn't see the 9x15 envelope which I wrapped around the actual documents. Okay so I waited for 2 weeks and apparently this check must have been sent from Africa or China because after 2 weeks, still no check. During this time I had to call back constantly and every time it was, oh well we put the check in the mailroom on that date so it must have gone out a few days later, or just wait for a few more days because USPS takes up to 10 business days to deliver mail in the US. The post office DOES NOT take 10 business days to deliver regular mail. So finally after constantly calling they agreed to "stop" the other check they supposedly sent out and request for a new one. They said their policy is it takes 3 business days to compete this "stop check procedure" and then they will overnight the check to us. 3 business day later I called back, oh guess what? They forgot to send it and the processor that has been working on out case is already gone for the day, how convenient. Earliest they can sent out check now is next week. I asked for a manager but he apparently has no time to talk to me so we just need to wait for it because apparently there is nothing they can do. I spoke to just about everyone over there: Andrew, Larry, Stacey, Katrina, Janet and another guy who lied to us that the check will be sent out on Thursday. Just STOP LYING TO US and please give us back our money. Our biggest regret is choosing Flagstar as our mortgage lender. read more

Got the check, sent it to them to sign so that we could get the work done..and now they don't want to send you anything until the work is completed and according to most other reviews it's still going to be a dogfight. I refinanced one of my properties to lower my interest rate. I pay my mortgages on time and always pay additional principle. I pay on the 10th of the month (due on 1st, late on 15th). This is the way I've always paid and none of my numerous previous mortgage holders have every had a problem with it. When I first got this loan (broker sold the loan to them) I sent them about $6000 (the refund I got through escrow from the previous lender.) to be applied to the principle. This was before a payment was even due. Their accounting is so odd: they decided to apply half of it as advance payments (about 3 months worth). The other half, they put a "hold" on and didn't apply it to anything. It took a few phone calls to get THAT straightened out. Now, they robocall me several times a day starting on the 5th of the month until they process my payment (usually by the 11th). Which for me means about 6 days of robocalls. The messages aren't complete because the recording starts too soon, but I see the Flagstar name pop up on caller ID. I've asked them to stop harassing me unless and until I'm actually overdue. They responded "we have to do this by law." Which of course is ridiculous. Anyway I would tell you never do business with these folks. They aren't bright and they aren't customer friendly. Even their website is sketchy looking. Wish my loan had not been sold to them. Hopefully I'll get this loan paid off in the next 5 years and be done with them! read more

These people are horrible! They are so nice and helpful when you are refinancing or making your payments on time. We have been with them over 10 years and our payment history is excellent. My husband was laid off from the oilfields in March and I was unable to make May's Payment. I asked if they could just put it on the back of the loan but they had no help for us. Now because of 1 late payment, which we are still behind 1 month our good credit took a huge hit for 88 points. Our credit is ruined because of 1 late payment which will continue to be a month behind every month until my husband goes back to work and I can catch up the payment. Shame on them, we have been great clients and we do not deserve this! Now when I talk to them, they are rude, mean and disrespectful. As soon as we can get away from them we will. I've emailed my insurance policy 3x's and receive a response stating it's been updated each time, however I continue to receive threatening notices that they have force placed insurance. My coverage is beyond what they require yet they can't seem stop wasting my time. I've been dealing with this miserable ordeal for 3 months now to no avail. What does it take to get this rectified? The insurance dept manager wouldn't directly speak to me even though I requested to talk?!
