Flagstar sold my mortgage to another lending company in the middle of the year. I have called several times to receive my 1099 for tax purposes and no one could find the document or led me in the right direction...Customer service gave me other numbers to call and those phone tree options did not recognize my account, loan or SS# and would not let me speak to anyone... so I was right back where I started with trying to speak to customer service that had no information. My local branch is friendly. Calling Customer Service is a disaster. The useful prompts are listed at the end of very long lists of very specific problems. Hint... press 0 to get to a person and skip all the junk. Even then, the basic customer service couldn't even repeat the issue I was having back to me after I told her. When I asked if there was someone else I could talk to I was again given the run around. My request was ignored and I was told I need to verify my account. We all know when you get a new person you have to verify all the same information you've already entered and already repeated to the first person. So I verify all the information and then customer service states she needs to text me. I said no. She said that was the end of the call then. I said "because I don't want a text?" Then she stated they could manually verify me and asked for my birthday. The story goes on but suffice to say, avoid Flagstar customer service at all costs. This bank has drained my energy , I simply wanted to have my wife's account closed , due to health matters , they have made my life a complete hell. I really don't know how the state banking commission allows them to operate. Every transaction needed is jumping through hoops , still left undone. Flagstar continued for a year and a half to withhold the incorrect escrow amount. Then at the end of 2024 notified us that we had a 25K shortfall in our escrow and doubled our house payment per month! Terrible management unable to speak to anyone. Had to contact a loan officer to get a generic email to message. We were told they would respond with in 24 hours. We have waited 5 days to get a response via email and they don't even sign their name to the emails only their initials so you don't even know who you are corresponding with. Our loan was sold to Mr. Cooper who has provided excellent customer service trying to help us sort through this. I see why Flagstar no longer has a mortgage department. Been with Flagstar for over a year now after our loan got sold to them. We ran into problems with trying to cover our mortgage after two deaths in the family and my wife being laid off. Kept up payments as best we could for six months until I finally fell behind in one. Went to their mortgage relief and applied for hardship, explaining the situation. Took nearly two months before they were able to "review" the hardship. Furthermore, ended up getting denied in every facet because we had "continuous income", despite the income being nil due to wife's job situation. Despite losing more than half of our income we were trying to keep up with payments, however that inferred that we were able to make all payments on time, ergo no assistance was needed. We filed all our banking documents, our debts, and even showed how we had tapped into our savings to make payments until the savings was gone, but it wasn't enough. Honestly, I don't think getting denied would've been as bad as it was if it wasn't for the fact that the first thing they offered after this two month evaluation was to simply go ahead and foreclose on us or perhaps even do a short sale, making us lose our house either way. Funny enough, they provided links on their mortgage relief page for other options, and one of the links literally lead right back to Flagstar as an option to assist with relief... Not customer oriented at all. All they care to do is get payments or simply take your house from you, no matter the situation. We're going to refinance, even if the rate is higher to get away from them, especially since they've done nothing but push for foreclosure on our house after we asked them for help or ideas or anything at all when we were to miss our first payment and only payment. read more

Beware of this bank's outdated and inconvenient policies! I opened a 5-month CD in October 2024, and the funds were electronically transferred from my bank to fund the account. However, when the CD matured in January 2025, I requested the funds be returned the same way they were withdrawn--electronically. Shockingly, the bank refused and insisted on sending a check via USPS, despite this being a substantial sum of money. I spoke with Olga and her manager, Thea, on 1/30/25, but received no resolution. When I called back, customer service representative Laura at least provided an alternative: I could request overnight delivery via UPS or FedEx at my expense. However, even this option required an approval process that would take several days--though I was assured it would fall within the 10-day grace period, avoiding penalties. Even worse, I was told I could pick up the check in person at my "local" branch. The problem? I live in Chicago, and the nearest branch is in La Porte, Indiana--a 1.5-hour drive each way! I have opened numerous online CDs with other banks, and this is the first time my funds weren't returned electronically. Garbage company. My mortgage was bought by these clowns and it was a nonstop PITA. I had to constantly watch them so that they wouldn't overcharge me. Every single year I had to renew flood insurance with them because the HOA covered it and I didn't have it on hand. So every year they placed flood insurance for me and then sent me some letter about it and I got charged a bunch of extra money on my monthly payment to cover the new escrow cost. Every year I had to manually mail and update the flood insurance with them through some sketchy 3rd party website, "ihaveinsurance.com" which was dumb and sounded super fake. I had to pay extra for escrow and they didn't refund it until the end of the year. So they basically kept hundreds of dollars interest free because they made a mistake and/or couldn't figure out that the insurance renewed. (more likely case was they're crooks who want to borrow free money). Nothing they have supports budget apps like Mint or Monarch, which I like to use because their connection to the app's account would constantly break and I had to manually fix it every few months in order to get updated payment and balance information. They don't have any redeeming qualities and they're some sketchy fly by night operation that is just out to weasel money out of people. read more

Complaint Details Flagstar (aka Lakeview), found a shortage in my escrow (of which they never explained) but I am guessing is due to property tax increases. They recalculated my payment to be $400 more a month. This is after a 20% increase in insurance due to Floridas weather. When I asked for help with this they said "the investor will not allow spreading payments over more than 24 months"- a mortgage company can't spread out payments for more than 24 months? Not only is that asinine, it is a complete nightmare, $400 a month?! A 15% increase in mortgage payment, during a recession! On top of this after being transferred between the escrow and collections department for days, the finally say there "nothing they can do, sorry". It's truly unbelievable I could lose my house because my mortgage company sold my debt to a bunch of crooks! As noted by the business, the shortage is $2,624.66 which is supposedly spread over 24 months, and resulted in my mortgage payment being $2,924.76. However, my mortgage payment was originally $2,629.55. $2,624 divided by 24 is $109, this plus $2,629.55 is $2,738.55, NOT $2,900 or $3,000. Put another way, $2,924-$2,629=$295.00, this spread over 24 months would be $7,080. read more

Flagstar is a joke. Most mortgage companies I have worked with before will typically pay for supplemental taxes when you are a new homeowner. Not Flagstar. They lowered my mortgage because there was additional funds for supplemental taxes. What happens next year I do not have enough money in my escrow account? Their customer service was not understanding when I explained that my taxes would be much higher and I would need to pay out of pocket. Their solution was for me to pay additional each month on their portal. They also won't allow for my monthly payment to auto-pay additional money for the escrow account. If you're a new homebuyer and don't notice this, you can easily get in some big financial trouble. Flagstar, do better. read more

I tried eight times to open an account with Flagstar. In the process, the site froze, at the same location every time. I contacted the bank and talked to an agent to determine if any of the accounts had gone through. He said "No." He wanted me to go through setting up an account with him on the phone. I did. The site froze at the same location, again. I decided if they had glitches in the set up process, where else were there glitches and decided to NOT open an account. Several days later, I receive THREE email congratulating me on opening accounts. THREE when I did not even complete the process for one! I called and talked to a rep. She said she would write up a case and have my money refunded. Nothing happened. I called the bank again the next day. Same response. She would follow up and have the bank refund my money. Nothing happened. I called again today. They can't refund me the money. I have to request the accounts be closed and pay a penalty for early closure! They can decide if they want to close my account or not! If they decide to close the account, I will be charged an early termination fee. We are military personnel and are assuming a loan and must use Flagstar. In short, it's been incredibly frustrating. Our loan advocate doesn't provide clear instructions and went on holiday without someone in place to cover for them. So our loan sat idle, and emails and phone calls went unanswered for a full week. (Is this why they say the loan process can take so long?) The reviewers requested validation for my employment by asking for my Commander's contact information. To put it in civilian terms, that's like asking for the Mayor's contact information to verify the employment of a city resident; neither the Mayor nor the Commander have time for that, so they have designated representatives for such inquiries. We provided them with the "representatives'" contact information but still received repeated requests for both verbal and written confirmation. At no point were we told precisely what was required, so we sent multiple pay stubs as well as my orders, but the requests continued while our emails and phone calls went unanswered. The sellers had similar issues with repeatedly requested information despite it having been submitted. We were supposed to close yesterday. The seller deploys next week. We finally got clarification for the employment verification this afternoon AFTER both our agents demanded that a supervisor get involved. I cannot wait to close and then transfer our mortgage to a bank that is more efficient. read more
