I WOULD GIVE LESS STARS IF POSSIBLE. I have been a long term customer of Stan Gelber. They did a whole house central AC unit and a couple of split units for me. I have also recommended them to several other people for whole house installations. When Stan ran the company it was fantastic. The company has now been bought out by SERVICE EXPERTS. They are a TERRIBLE company. I have scheduled 8 appointments to fix my AC that they installed and is still under warranty and they either can't fix it or simply don't show up. John that was running the UNIONDALE office is a pathological liar and as of 4/28/26 he is fired and the UNIONDALE office has closed. All work is supposedly being handled by FLANDERS SERVICE EXPERTS in HAMPTON BAYS. This location is just as terrible. All customer service is handled by the TEXAS office. CHRIS ANDREWS is the head pathological liar at that location. No matter what he tells you DO NOT believe it. He tells you he will give you his cell # but it's worthless because he will not answer the phone or text back. It seems if the whole SERVICE experts business model is a scam, they are trying to sell maintenance contracts that they have no intention of honoring. I had an unpleasant interaction with Marie today and figured I'd write a quick review while looking for a solution to my problem. My oil burner stopped working when a leak in the plumbing from a bathroom drenched the controller unit for oil burner, I took care of the leak and booked an appointment online for 4 pm on Friday. At 3:15 pm, Marie called and explained that they were overbooked and wouldn't be there till Monday. It would be an all day appointment and I would have to be there.. I told her that wouldn't work for me and I wouldn't pay the 180 deposit to have them show up until I attempted to find someone who can address the issue immediately. I also mentioned that when Flanders installed the unit two years ago that the sales guy stepped through my ceiling when surveying the attic. He assured me that it would be corrected. It's been two years, and despite several phone calls nothing was ever done about the damage. My overall evaluation is that they charge top dollar for mediocre service. My heating system, AC system, and heat pump unit all have done the job fine since installation. But.. they are not customer oriented. I see their overal rating of 2.3 is pretty mediocre. I had replaced me central air system this past April and since it has been installed it has not worked the way my previous system had worked, They have been here sixtimes and now they just dont return my calls on what is the next step with this. Maybe they will fix in in January. read more

They came quickly to house for an estimate and promised to provide a quote in the same week but did not. I called the persons who came to the house and he said he was waiting for a quote on a piece of machines but next got back to me. I have used Flanders for about 5 years after installing five brand new Lennox systems. Over that time my experience with them has been that they have one main goal in their operation, which is to separate customers from their money to the maximum extent possible. They once convinced me to purchase UV lights to kill supposed bacteria in all 5 systems at a cost of around $2,500. I find out the next year that the bulbs have a life of one year and cost $300 each to replace. For several years I have had a problem with one zone in particular not cooling the way it should. Each year, a Flanders tech has added refrigerant as the solution. This year I finally insisted that something else is wrong, since none of my other zones using refrigerant to this extent. I asked the person who answers the phone about why they are doing the same thing each year and she said I could request a leak test. So I did, and lo and behold, the evaporator coil in the air handler has a leak. The tech tells me to call the office to schedule its replacement. I call the office and the person who answers the phone sends me a quote for over $6,000 to replace it. I ask her if the part is covered under warranty and she immediately replies that the warranty expired 3 years ago. She then says the system is 8 years old and I should consider replacing it. I then receive a quote for $11k to replace both the air handler and the condenser. So I call another company nearby and I get the owner on the phone. He looks up my serial number and tells me I have 2 years left on the warranty. I get a quote for $2,600 to make the repair and it runs perfectly. Flanders is owned by a huge, out of town company. They use aggressive sales tactics and they struggle to meet the demand they have. Appointments can take weeks to get. Their rates are among the highest in the Hamptons. You can pay over $1,000/year to have a maintenance contract which MAY shorten your wait time. But I strongly recommend using one of the many local providers (except for Grant) with an honest, customer focused ethos. Flanders is not that. read more

Of all the trades on my renovation project, they were the biggest drag on the system. The project manager was so rude I called the office and told them I didn't want him on my job; incredibly, they were already aware that he was a problem and told me they'd spoken to him in the past and "thought they had it under control." The replacement PM never called and never showed up. The company has been unreliable, constantly unprepared, has held up everyone and wasted days of my time. We used Flanders for several years. Unbeknownst to us they had committed multiple and dangerous code violations. Then multiple (7-10) examples of work not done to manufactures specifications. For years I have had Flanders Plumbing and Air Conditioning come to my house. I had this company install the ductless air conditioning units, as well.I also took out a yearly service plan. This plan, is supposed to provide me with priority service and a yearly check on my heat and air conditioner unit. The serive the technician did nothing on my heating unit ! I They did not even charge the Filter. And to top it off, the forced high air was not at the correct temperature to actually heat my home efficiently. The ductless air conditioning units I was told had black mold and needed a cleaning. It cost 150.00 for each unit. Making the appointment took multiple attempts, each time a technician came to my house they had no idea they were to clean the air conditioning units and did not have the correct equipment to provide the service. When the technician finally got it right and was able to clean the units, I asked him about the black mold in the units, his response was, " I didn't see black mold, maybe a little dust." This company is not locally owned and it is apparent they don't really care. I wasted over $400.00 a year for a service, that was not provided. Our A/C died on Thursday afternoon, just about the hottest day of the year. Flanders installed and has been servicing the unit since 2017. I contacted them at 6:30 Thursday evening hoping that maybe there was a way to correct the problem over the phone. I reached the off-shift desk, I was asked it the issue was urgent. Despite feeling incredibly guilty for responding that it was urgent, I did receive a call back from a technician in less than 15 mins. I explained the problem, the technician said he'd be to my home as soon as he could. Sure enough, the technician arrived ~8 pm, diagnosed the problem and notified the service department to order the part. I was told I would hear from the service folks on Friday. I contacted the service department Friday morning at 8:00. I was told that there was no status on the part order and that I shouldn't expect it to be available until next week. My house was 87 degrees inside. I expected this response but I was still very disappointed. Later in the morning, I received a 2nd call from the service department telling me they had the part and would be out to install it Friday afternoon. I was elated, I'm not a very good camper. Sure enough at 1:00 the technician arrived, replaced the part and by 2:30, my house was cooling down. I couldn't be more satisfied. In less than 24 hrs my A/C was working again. Would have given 0 stars if possible. The pricing is outrageous and they are using previous owners reputation and advertising over 60 years experience, which I found out they recently bought. They make u sign up for a contract before they will even schedule an appointment and they don't even honor the terms of the contract ie 24/7 emergency service...I called 2 times on a Saturday when my A/C wasn't working and never got a call back response until Monday and they didn't come until Tuesday! They sent the youngest most inexperienced tech and when he "thought" he knew the problem, he had to call a tech in the area to confirm....at $55 per quarter hour (15 minutes) !!!Then they told me they didn't have the part and had to order it and office would call me later to update me...once again, I had to call them and was told it was being sent over to Bob the parts manager and he would call me with pricing, etc. ...no call back...I had to call them again and got the answering service at 4:37!! At this point I left message I was canceling contract and contacting my bank to dispute the charge. Steer clear of this business. read more

We had a brand new system installed just over a year ago and it has never worked as it should. we have had to call a technician to our house over 20+ times and to date it is not running as it should. Every time a new technician shows up they find a new issue. This unit cost over $10k to install should not be this problematic. Nobody wants to seem to resolve or get to the bottom of this. This unit is not of merchantable quality. It is faulty and the company does not seem to care. They continue to charge for visits to fix a faulty unit installed from day one. My air conditioning /heating HVAC system needed replacement ,and I contracted with Flanders to do the work.The young man who came to estimate and sell the job was knowledgeable , courteous, and professional.The price was good.The time frame was two weeks and I accepted the proposal under the condition that I could reschedule if it rained . The day before the job , I called 9 times within a 24 hour period to confirm that i would reschedule if it rained, and otherwise would expect the men at 8:00 AM as scheduled .I texted the young mean who sold me the job, when I got no response , and he asked the project manager to give me a call back. He assured me I was on the schedule. I received no phone call back and no one arrived to do the work . When I finally reached someone at the office I was told that I was not on the schedule after all and they were too booked to fit me in for over a month. When our 30 year old boiler needed replacement, we had many companies to chose from. We ultimately chose Flanders because we felt that this was a big investment for us and we wanted to be as certain as possible that there would be team of pro's doing the installation, and servicing after the sale if problems arose. That was over a year ago, and this review is a shout out to Wyatt from Flanders and John the rep from Energy Kinetics for making sure our hot water is nice and hot, and the heat works fine. It took a little while to uncover a gremlin in the unit that was causing issues at first, but Flanders and Energy Kinetics didn't give up and the problem was rectified. I liked that they offered numerous manufactures of the equipment and pointed out the benefits of each one so I could research and choose what was best for me. The units were installed as promised. Clean neat installation. Two weeks later I had a problem caused by a power surge from lipa I called for service at 11 am. By 12:30 a tech was at my door. Turned out to just need a reset. But the tech tested the entire system Refused to take a gratuity and wrote his cell number in our owners manual I am happy with this company read more

They have quite a good scheme going. First they take your credit card over the phone before they show up. That should have been the tip off. Service tech says I need Freon, which was accurate and suggests putting in a sealant along with the Freon. He knew exactly how much it would all cost but doesn't bother to say - hey this will cost you over 1,000 dollars. That's not a typo! Finishes the job without a peep and then processed the charge on my card for just over $1,000. R22 is not cheap but they clearly should have bothered to mention that the 30 minute repair would be so expensive. There are so many other companies out there - I would try someone else who would be more up front about costs before going ahead and running up a big bill. But at least my air cond is nice and cool now. Gotta give em that. read more

My name is Robert Limonius. My experience with Flanders Heating and Air Conditioning has been awfully horrendous. It started out when they installed my new AC unit, May 2017, I was told they could install the new unit within about 2 weeks time as long as I promptly filled out the paperwork and returned it within two days, subsequently it took close to 6 weeks to complete the job after numerous phone calls. That was the first issue, second they sign me up for a service contract, and in May 2018 the technician found there was a leak that needed to be repaired. Fast forward to today June 1, 2019, after giving them a down payment and numerous unreturned phone calls and emails (other than being contacted to purchase a new contract) I still have a leak. They also butchered up my ductwork in my house and thankfully I am handy and could fix it myself and not have to hire a new company to come in and fix their mess. I have nothing good to say about this company as I am two years in, money down (lost) and still no working air conditioning. read more

So far I am becoming very nervous about this company. My parents had an HVAC system installed at their house 2 years ago. It was problems from the beginning and the unit on the roof actually broke and leaked through. It was repaired but now its not working again. Called them because my aging parents are in Florida but was told that the "warranty was voided" because my father, who was in the hospital last summer, failed to respond to some phone call so Flanders "canceled the service agreement". Flanders has an extremely inappropriate system of dealing with their customers. They have three service tiers: (1) Gold, (2) Silver, and (3) Bronze. The more you pay, the faster they come to you. In other words, if you are not paying for the higher priced Gold service, you don't get immediate service. For example, my mother-in-law was dying of cancer (with home Hospice), but because we didn't have Gold service, it took three days for them to fix our heating system. The electric heaters we borrowed didn't really heat the house properly -- which was absolutely unacceptable with a sick elderly woman in the house. And to add insult to in jury, I actually saw Flanders trucks whizzing by our neighborhood that afternoon and evening . That was absolutely unacceptable. I later found out that they were heading over to service higher paying Gold Tier customers. In short, money talks for Flanders. You grease their palm (i.e., pay more for Gold service), the better service you get. Personally I don't care for that type of service -- or that type of company. Neither should you. Finally -- to add insult to injury -- our electric bill was so way over the top (for three days of using expensive LIPA electric heat) that we promptly dropped Flanders as our service provider. And so should you. I recommend Kolb Mechanical or Zurab's Heating & Air Conditioning for your heating and AC service needs. Stay away from Flanders !!! read more

I called Flanders before Christmas because I was having problems with my gas boiler shutting down everyday They said they could help me out and send someone over. The next thing was getting my credit card info before their mechanic ever showed up. That should of been my first alarm. The mechanic shows up and I described what's happening. He goes thru the history on the boiler and then starts to tell me that the system was installed wrong Really that's where your going with this ? Besides the fact that it was installed by a professional plumber and has been working properly for six years now I'm being told we have to change the system oh it gets better. Next he can't even tell me what exactly he needs to do and what estimate would be to repair. So he leaves after about 15 minutes and tells me the office will get back to me with a price. They charge me $160 and then I get a message on my cell I should call them back and schedule the work. Needless to say I didn't call them back Had another tech come in and he changed a relay $40 and it has been running fine So buyer beware Unfortunately I did not see any other bad reviews when I looked them up read more

I don't really like the attitude of this company. And they are expensive. In short, if you have a problem, Office Manager Theresa has pretty much said "...you can always go somewhere else if you want..." This type of attitude never goes over well with me. It borders on arrogance. And it sounds more like "If you don't like it, too bad." That being said, Theresa is basically borderline polite if you're not a problem, but if you question anything at all, the attitude begins. Also, many Flanders customers think they have a service contract with Flanders, but Flanders doesn't offer service contracts. They sell ESAs (Energy Savings Agreements). This simply means you get one "free" cleaning; however, Flanders charges for anything and everything outside of the basic cleaning agreement. In other words, an ESA is basically a prepaid service call, and they have a vested interest in finding something when they come out to service you. At that point, they can nickel and dime you death. They've done this to me. Otherwise they don't make anything on the service call. An ESA will apparently also give you priority service at a slightly reduced hourly rate (with a supposed 15% discount on parts). I'm not sure you really get priority. They simply say you do. Their periodic bad attitude makes me question this. In short, I don't trust this company. Buyer beware. read more

Thanks to many other customers' complaints, Flanders has apparently stopped their Gold, Silver, Bronze services. It really wasn't fair to first service those who paid more for a service agreement. They used to service Gold customers first, Silver customers second, and Bronze customers last. But it seems that they got rid of this? You have to ask them to be sure, I don't know. But I know other people who still use Flanders. I guess it's easier to stay with something you know than change. So I know Flanders still overcharges. Their service agreements are NOT service contracts. If something breaks down, a service agreement simply gets a serviceman there (supposedly before they go to someone without a service agreement; but a service agreement runs over $400 a year for heating and AC), but if you need anything beyond a service agreement cleaning, Flanders has always charged for a service call. Always. But with a service agreement they apparently give a 15% discount, but 15% off an already inflated price is still an overpriced service call. If anyone says otherwise in these reviews, they are either lying, friends/workers of Flanders, or simply don't understand how Flanders charges. And how they charge is odd. They don't charge for the part and an hourly rate. They charge a flat rate in three or four rate tiers. These flat rates are higher than the hourly rate and cost for the replacement part. Seriously, do you really think that Flanders is going to take a loss? No heating company will do this. As far as I'm concerned, almost all heating companies overcharge. Heating and AC service calls are expensive. Flanders is no exception. I just hate Flanders. But I did not always feel this way about them. I used to like Flanders. My current negative opinion is now based on my experiences with them. I was a Flanders customer for a long time until I started hearing a lot of bad things about them. That's when I started to question the work they did. Don't be a "blind" customer who's fooled by Flanders. I used to be one of them. They're very personable. And don't get me wrong, I would not call them dishonest. They just overcharge. Their service agreement alone is way overpriced. And before some other reviewer says something like these reviews are cut and pasted from other websites, I'm about to do this myself. If you really dislike a company, you take the time to post reviews on various websites. And I really really dislike Flanders. If you want to try/compare other heating companies, consider Zurab Heating. The guy is honest. He's reliable. He's also reasonable. I called as soon as the thermostats arrived and was told that Nora, the person I needed to speak to was not available. So I left her a message. Next day same thing. Etc, until after 4 days I finally caught her in the office. I told her that I had left her numerous messages and her responses was that she was very busy. No apologies. Whatever. She then scheduled the installation for Friday August 9th at 9:30 am. This morning, August 9th at 8:30 she just called to cancel the appointment becuse she didn't have a technician. I had an air conditioning problem during a recent heat spell. I called Flanders and they came to my home on time( 15 minutes earlier). They diagnosed the problem and returned the next day with the new part. All of the technicians were courteous and very clean. The office followed up to make sure all went well. The women who answer the phone do not have a clue as they do not have the schedules and have to check with a technician and then get back to you. On top of that they were very rude!!! Flanders Burner (Al and Tim) and the entire crew) and just the best. I was referred to them by our Propane Pro (Great White) and are so very happy that we were. They are so knowledgeable and they actually care about their clients. That's rare these days. We have small kids and to know they know and care is so reassuring and gives "peace of mind" in an Emergency. We've come home from trips with NO heat and they come immediately to save us. I called in to have a quick service because I noticed water condensation under the boiler. They told me that if I got a service contract that I would save money.... I spent $200 on the contract. Then was charged $`167 for a 'diagnostic'. They said that was the charge for the visitation. They are only 5 miles from my house. They looked at the boiler and told me I needed the chimney serviced.... You would expect a legit/honest operation to appreciate their customers and not take advantage. $367 to be told that I need a chimney person to relieve condensation. Unreal!
