...Did not think I'd be writing a review on a furnace company but here I am. Right now in the middle of troubleshooting a heating issue. Thanks to Flash Furnace I am identifying the issue first before having a tech come out if I need one. Emailed them overnight when my house furnace would not come on - looked like the Michelin man going to bed with all the layers to keep warm. Promptly received a personal and friendly reply back from Rosie. On top of that I got a call from Rosie; not to set up a time right away but to let me know a tech would be in touch to troubleshoot the issue with me first. The tech called as promised and was just as friendly and knowledgeable. He walked me through the steps of - is it my furnace or is it my thermostat? He even explained it a way that made sense to some one like me who has a love / hate relationship with tools. I work in a customer service field and all too often its about completing the sale right away or focusing on price/up sells. Very impressed with Flash's - lets work together to identify the issue and if you need us we are here for you. I'll find out later if its something I can fix or if I need to call in the expert....and if I make that call I'm using Flash Furnace. Already told friends at the office about the experience so far. Customer service isn't just about what you do when things go right, its just as important (if not more so) how you are treated when things go wrong. My hot water tank was installed quickly and properly, things went a bit south when my main shut-off valve broke when the poor guy tried to turn it back on. This is not the fault of the installer, my house is over 100 years old, and (as i learnt from the plumber later on) that valve was installed before the 70's so at 50 years plus, I can't say it's anyone's fault it rusted away. The point is, Flash Furnace was on the phone, helping me find emergency service, calling in favours, and really just being a person at the other end of the line as I (being a first time home owner) freak the F*** out over how to resolve a domino effect of problems I don't know who to call over. In hind sight its quite funny how everything went wrong, but at the time, Flash was there to help as much as they could and be over-all pretty rad people. Anyways, they were all awesome, and I would recommend them for any furnace/hot water tank needs. FYI, they are cheaper than home depot quoted me, for a better quality tank, and better service. Phoned Flash Furnace on a Sunday afternoon to have someone check out a furnace at my father-in-law's place that wasn't working. Aaron took the call and advised he could come by in about an hour to see what the issue was. Aaron showed up on time and quickly determined the issue ( a tricky one where the switch to turn the furnace off and on had become faulty) and promptly repaired the issue. Aaron came to my rescue at 1:30 am last night to fix my furnace that had stopped working, and with an overnight temperature of -15, it was getting pretty chilly in my house. He was friendly and efficient and within a half hour, he was on his way and my house was warming up. He explained what the issue was and quickly fixed it, and also made sure my humidifier was working properly. I thought his rate to come out in the middle of the night was very reasonable too. I prefer supporting a smaller business, and I'm going to call in the future for all my furnace needs because I think Aaron and his team care about their customers and I feel like I can trust him. read more

Great Service! We have a townhouse in Calgary and it was -20 and the furnace went out. After reading the reviews on Flash Furnace I phoned first thing in the morning (8am). The owner of Flash Furnace was at the townhouse by noon. He cleaned and fixed the furnace and had us back up and going in 30 mins. He did not charge us an emergency fee as most would and only charged us a service call fee since it was an easy fix. I would highly recommend them due to their quick service and extremely fair pricing. read more

I contacted Flash due to the reviews and pricing. We scheduled a furnace tune up for both my furnaces, however they failed to show up at the appointed time. I called to see if there was a challenge etc, but received NO call back. I have called twice with no response. They may be good but I for one will never know. C'mon guys, get with the program and be respectful and reliable!! read more

In summary, 2 no-shows for this company. Some relationships and details were changed for privacy reasons. I will try to be brief with my timeline/background leading to my review of '1 star' for the company (which is really 1 star too many): My initial contact with the company involved a phone call to their general line asking for an appointment to obtain quote. Note that the purpose of the work is to get some HVAC work done to a undeveloped basement which I renovating into a secondary suite. Got an appointment a few days later between 9am-11am. Arranged for somebody to be on the premises to let the tech in. I get a call at 10am the day of the appointment that the tech cannot make it and will need to reschedule. Note that I also have a day job and asked for a favor from my friend to be on site who was free that morning to let the tech in, so I did not need to take time off. Its frustrating to have a vendor call in the midst of the appointment time to let me know they cannot make it. Definitely some time wasted - it's one thing if it was just my time, but ended being my friend's time too. The reason on the company's end was something along the lines that they need to take care of something - I am paraphrasing obviously, as I did not really understand what exactly was explained. I explained my concerns and frustrations to the person on the phone, and she said she understood and apologized, and we worked to get an appointment for a few days later at a mutually beneficial time for 8pm (was explained that if there was a missed appointment, they do their best to meet at a better time to accommodate) where I could get home after work and not need to take time off. During the call, I was mentioned that the appointment would be passed on to the tech to make sure it is ok, and I will get a call back to confirm. I did not get a call back later that day or the next day, so I call the company again a day (or two after, I do not exactly remember) after to make sure if the 8pm appointment was still good. Was told that the appointment is still good. Note that there are a couple of people that answer calls so the times I speak to the company, the individuals I speak to, vary. I reschedule appointments on my end and worked accordingly to ensure that I could get off at a decent time and beat the commute in time to make it for the appointment at 8pm. The day of the appointment, there was nothing as of 8:30. I gave a call to their number (which is 24 hrs) and leave a quick message inquiring if it was still happening. Radio silence and no call backs at all. The next day, I call their line and someone answers - I relay my concerns/frustrations. I am explained that they do not know why appointments are being missed, and there are no explanations. One suggestion was provided, was that she could send me some information about costs and after my review I can decide whether I want to continue. Note that I am not in the industry/trade, would not know what to pick, nor do I understand the work done where I would be able to appropriately come up with a conclusion. I ask that they inquire with the tech to see what time works and and get back to me. I await their response but I am not holding my breath. Potentially there was some bad luck/scheduling/miscommunication problems. Maybe the work that is involved is not appealing or low on the priority list. Maybe such work is unprofitable. Note that my initial conversations with the company I explained what I am looking for - a quote for a potential secondary suite in the basement. I can only speculate the reasons why I am being ignored for the appointments. What is interesting was that I picked this company because of their past reviews which were strong. I understand in each customer business relationship, the dealings between customer and vendor require a joint relationship. I felt I put in considerable effort is accommodating their initial schedule, and pro-activeness in ensuring that the 2nd appointment's timing was appropriate. My 1 star rating is based on the fact the 'free quote' was not really free - I had spent time co-coordinating my own schedule, sacrificing time (which, as working individuals, have a cost associated with lost time) - and in the end, with no quote, may need to pursue another vendor. Arrived home to a very cold house after seeing family for a few days over Christmas. Called Flash Furnace late that afternoon and Matt arrived the next morning (Tues) to have a look. Repair not possible so agreed to a new furnace. Tammy came by and provided an estimate that same day. Install occurred on Thursday and by Friday I had a warm and cozy abode. So thankful the temperatures weren't as bad as they could have been this time of year. Kudos to the Flash Furnace team, highly recommended! read more

My furnace went out during the night, so when I woke at 6:30, I thought I better call and leave a message so I'd be in the queue. No message... my call was actually answered! My service call was scheduled for between 10 a.m. and noon. Rene arrived at 9:30 and was done by 9:55. I loved that I didn't have to wait around. He walked me through my furnace's operation, answered questions about lifespan of mid- and high-efficiency furnaces, told me the type of furnace to buy if I wanted to replace mine with an uber-quiet one - very knowledgeable! Then, he didn't pressure me to buy a sensor. Said that with the cleaning he had done, it would probably last the winter. Since I didn't want to take a chance, I opted to replace. Had Flash furnace come out and do a Maintenance on my furnace. Technician was efficient and meticulous. I had him give me a quote on a replacement furnace and A/C unit while he was on site. We had Flash Furnace quote on a furnace replacement at a rental property. It came in at $3,860. We approved the work and. The tenant agreed to miss a days work so Flash Furnace could do the replacement, On the day they showed up they revised their estimate to $10,990! They now said to do it right the 2nd furnace and the hot water tank too has to be replaced, The tenant was already without heat a week and lost a days wages as a result of this last minute upsell. read more

We first dealt with Aaron and Flash Furnace last year when we needed to get an inspection on our furnace. At that time I was looking for someone good to come in because we've had several bad experiences with bigger companies that installed our new furnace and then charged too much to fix it when it broke down in the middle of the winter several times within a couple of years of the install (not to mention "emergency charges" for calling after office hours cause we got no heat in the house at 9:00pm!). It's hard to find someone good to help take care of your home and I was very excited to find Flash Furnace. At the time they were just starting out and I remember when I first called Rosie to find out more, she assured me that there will be none of the "we're too big to take care of you" attitude that we got from other companies and that we will get 110% attention. And truly, we did. Aaron came out to do the inspection but instead of just checking things off the list, he went above and beyond, he also advised us why we kept having issues with the furnace shutting down (to think that two different companies have looked at our furnace before and not one mentioned that we don't need the super heavy and the VERY expensive filter because it doesn't let enough air through!). At the time Flash Furnace didn't offer duct cleaning, not sure if they do now? But we had to get someone else to do it...and of course they messed something up the in the process and now we started getting noise coming from the furnace! I phoned Aaron to see if I should call back the duct cleaners and instead he came back to our house to put things back to normal. Long story short, I have found the perfect company to look after my furnace and I would strongly recommend Aaron & Rosie for their honesty, hard work and care. I called Flash Furnace on the 21 of Feb. 2017 and they booked and appointment for me between 2-4 pm the next day. The man they sent to do the diagnostic phoned 1/2 hour before arriving in the home. Although I had told the downstairs tenants that I had booked a furnace inspection they forgot and left us no way to get access. Aaron spent time with me analyzing my concerns from what he could determine about the furnace without actually getting in to see it. He said he could come back at another time without my having to pay the $49 for a site visit. I found him to be task focused and well mannered. read more

My furnace quit working and Aaron was quick to respond. He quoted me at about $200 for the part plus labour. He worked fast and as far as I can tell... did a good job of installing a new motor. However, he sent my invoice with pictures (what I assume are pictures) that I cannot open (although I have almost every program known to man) and the bill ended up being $550 ($50 for labour $500 for part). Too much of a jump from the initial quote of 200 for my liking. As well, I probably would have waited to fix it (as it is a secondary furnace) until I could afford the $500 part. UPDATE: After dealing with Rosie (owner of the company) Flash Furnace resolved my problem by giving me back my old parts, installed them and making sure the unit is working and refund the money. I appreciate Rosie and her partner the effort to support me in this issue. That, for sure, gave me a different impression of the company. Probably my case is a isolated case that does not represent the company and their capacity. I wish I had a better ending but at this time I am satisfied with the resolution. read more
