Waited almost 2 hours for a follow up exam, the room had trash all over the floor and the equipment was dirty. The nurse says "we aren't allowed to touch they mirrors". ok so they never get cleaned. I have seen 4 different Drs here. They don't communicate well. I ask questions but don't get good or any explanation. When I said that to one Dr here, he said he would transfer me to a different Dr. in the practice! Just because I needed something explained! One has told me something different every time I see her. She also "forgot" me. Her tech came to clean the room & was surprised to see me. I've worn glasses since I was 5, so I've been to several places (my last one I was with for 30 years & he retired). Dr Gonzalez did a terrible job at Strong Hospital. Scars are crooked one is deeper than the other and they're very wide. They cannot be hidden with makeup. How could he do this to any woman is beyond me. At post stop all he did was apologize over and over. No offer of trying to fix this. I'm on my own to pay for this and fix the scarring. And then the surgery didn't even work, my eyes hang lower than they did before the surgery with one hanging lower than the other. My eyes really bother me now to drive. I have been a patient of Dr. Plotnik for over 30 years, and he has never been on time to see me. He is routinely 30 to 60 minutes late into the exam room. I am dependent on volunteers (FISH) for transportation and dislike having to tie up their whole afternoon for my 10 minutes with a doctor. On 10/28/24 I had an appointment scheduled at Dr. Plotnik's Toby Village Office Park, at 2:30. I was taken to the exam room at 3:45 and then spent the next 45 minutes sitting in a very uncomfortable exam chair. At 3:30 I walked out, without seeing the doctor. I really needed to see an eye doctor, so I called the appointment number and asked for an appointment with a different doctor, preferably someone who would be on time. I was scheduled with Dr. Santiago on 11/19/24. He was late too. My appointment was 2:30; I walked out at 3:30, after 10 minutes with the doctor. Apparently, it is ok for Flaum doctors to be 30-60+ minutes late for appointments. It is not ok with me. Obviously, I will change Ophthalmology practices. read more

I had an eye exam for a minor problem at their Batavia, NY office who then told me that I had to go to Rochester, 1 1/2 months later. I had an 8:30AM appointment, arrived early and had to wait another 20 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. For the 1-hour that I was there, I was seen by a "Doctor" for 10 minutes or less and then they wanted me to make another appointment. I will not! They are in the business of over booking their appointments, billing Insurance Companies for doing very little or nothing at all and their "Staff" is bored, under worked and does not have any Customer Service skills! read more

Flaum allegedly takes my favorite insurance. I needed to take a car service so I asked for an appointment at the office near me. Oh no we don have that office. I told my sister, who is a nurse and knows the place well. She told me, call them back and say you want an appt in the...office. After waiting on the phone for half an hour, a gentleman took down a ton of information, then left for another 15 minutes. He said I knew you wanted to see someone right away so I spoke to my supervisor. But you're out of network. So do they take my insurance or don't they? Do they have an office near me or don't. After 1 plus hour on the phone I never found out. read more

I have seen Dr. Brooke Donaher here and she's excellent. Getting to her can take awhile. Ax can your office visit and testing. I feel that Dr. Donaher was kind, thorough, knowledgeable. I had to have my glasses redone. She was very helpful. Frames are expensive. read more

After waiting an hour I walked out. Because of medical conditions that risk vision impairment and blindness it is essential I get regular comprehensive exams but Flaum has become a joke. One lady said she had to wait 2 hours with a previous appointment. They rescheduled me for another appointment soon due to my risk factors. The staff is rude, I said good morning when they finally brought us back after 35 mins of waiting for a 830 am appt. And she said nothing so I thought oh maybe Francesca didnt hear me. Proceeded to tell her thank you and she completely ignored me again. That's when I flipped, I checked out and told them i would never be back to that location. I can't say enough how much I love this place. I came here from Buffalo after my eye doctor there did not know what to do. I had a retina reattachment in Buffalo with many complications and so much pain. At the Flaum Eye Institute Dr.Gulipali fixed me and helped me with the pain. Dr.Klein then took care of my cataract. They all listen so well and the staff is so caring. They are also so prompt and efficient with their scheduling and appointments. I barely have to wait whenever I get there and I am in quickly and out quickly. There is also an optometrist and eyeglass center if you need to get those done on the premises. I highly recommend this place. read more

To me, the Flaum Eye Institute is wonderful! I drove in at 7:45 and was able to park 15 yards from the front door. In the Lobby I was shown where to go. Feet away I took an elevator to where I needed. I sat about 10 minutes then put directly into a private room. Not only was I treated wonderfully I was able to fix problems that other doctors were incapable of. I will never go elsewhere again. read more

What is it with University of Rochester Flaum Eye Institute that makes them feel like it's okay to tell people "if you don't like how we treat you, then go some place else" It sounds eerily familiar..... like the same racist rhetoric of their POTUS! Seems to me thier Doctor's have a big problem with POC that advocate for themselves! Don't tell me to go some place else, fix the problem, fix your employees approach to healthcare! So disappointed in Flaum as U of R is so renown. Waited all week to get an appointment call after being sent there by America's Best Eyeglasses for serious issue. Called three times to inquire about appointment and was told 'referral specialist' would get back to me. Never heard from them. Called Unity and was able to get in within days. I went for a routine eye exam since I have not had one in 10 years with no complaints. I did not have vision insurance and expected the price to be around 150$ for the exam. I let them know I didn't have vision insurance when I checked in and was blown away by a 630$ bill for 5 minutes with an assistant and 5 minutes with the Dr. Never again! read more

11.13.2020: Twice, my husband has waited in excess of 2 hours past his appointment time. The employees are leaving and I'm sitting in the parking lot wondering what in the world has happened to my husband. He is an established patient for the past five years and the long wait appears to be correlated to COVID. At the last appointment, he told the doctor he had a bad, sudden headache, and his vision suddenly went blurry. His gait was off. He was told his eyes were fine; go home and rest and avoid stress. He was having a brain bleed. He ended up in local ER two days later - they diagnosed the brain bleed correctly, but due to the passage of time, there was brain damage. In the past, I have felt this was a competent eye institute with extremely knowledgeable doctors, but this this last visit has shaken my view of Flaum. read more

The wait times are utterly ridiculous. And this was pre-Covid! Even worse now. Stop overscheduling and get your scheduled patients in on time! No one has a whole day to take off to see a Dr. Whether it's routine eye care or something emergent, plan to waste your time there all day. read more

I was charged over $500 for a comprehensive eye exam. After complaining, I got no where. I then called the various Flaum locations and was told a comprehensive eye exam was $275 without insurance. Something is wrong. read more

Assisted a Mother to bring her two children in to a 10am appt. It's 11:05am and they have not been seen. Children ahead of them have had their eyes dialated and sent back into the waiting area to scream, cry and rub their eyes. There is no kleenex to be found, the waiting area is kidney shaped and only sits 10 with no room for strollers or diaper bags. There are more grand parents with family's than necessary clogging the waiting room up even more....(It's an eye exam people I doubt the parents or children really need you here) There is not a tv, wall murals are every where in the hospital but here. There isn't anything to distract the children. Plan on waiting up to two hours, bring drinks and snacks for your children and plenty of kleenex. You might also be smart to bring ear plugs. Lastly there is only parking for 16, plan on a 10 min walk from the lot. read more

I cringe having to make an appointment for my son who has had 16 years of health issues attributed to 2 cancers. Though the doctors are wonderful the front office staff can be incredibly rude.
