Stopped here during a port from our cruise. We had the Spinach & Artichoke Dip appetizer. It is different than what we were used to and what I mean by that is that it was all blended together. Topped with cheese and broiled. Served hot. Usually uou receive it with chunks of artichoke and long Spinach leaves so this was a nice change. The fried Pita chips served with a seasoning were phenomenal and gave it the kick it needed. We also enjoyed a lemon drop that was strong and supper yummy!!! The Fiddle Burger was the other item we both shared was a pretty good size; if I had to guess it was 8 oz. Served charred and super moist!! The bun was toasted nicely. The bacon was crisp and there were several strips next to the Chipotle aoili to create a phenomenal burger. The hand cut French fries were a really nice surprise!!! Great stop!!! read more

Fun little cafe at the cruise port with beautiful views and delicious food. The service was friendly and efficient. The fish and chips were super fresh and prepared well. I saw many dishes of mussels and crab rolls being devoured by locals and tourists alike. I will definitely stop again next time I'm in town. read more

The space is small, casual and cozy. There's free street parking after certain hours. The food is hearty and good. Nothing mind blowing, just simple and good, great option if you're staying in town. I would not drive 50 minutes out of the way for this like we did. The peanut butter burger was pretty interesting. The patty was big and juicy. I think I would have preferred a different burger but I don't regret trying the peanut butter. The steak sourdough sandwich was pretty good as well. They had one called Joe's flavor bomb which sounded amazing. There are 2 other locations: Flavor 19, and flavor by the water, with slightly different menus. read more

Wow...where to start? So, I'll start with the one positive...that our server was very friendly and polite. Beyond that, the food was universally awful. The chowder was akin to Campbell's chunky with a bit of fresh fish thrown in. The chicken club was made with pre-cooked, pre-sliced chicken that was very dry and the bread was so hard, I was worried about breaking a tooth. The crab cakes were loaded with filler and breaded way too thick....closer to a hush puppy than a crab cake. The mango salsa on top tasted straight out of a jar and the "aioli" was Hellman's and hot sauce. The beet salad was straight off the supermarket shelf - a measly amount of pre-cooked boiled beets on top of spring mix with balsamic dressing out of a bottle. One of our water glasses also had lipstick on it to start with a mystery floaty as a bonus. That should have been a clear sign of things to come... read more

This place looked really promising. But probably the biggest disappointment of my entire trip. Got a burger called the bruiser and my fiancé got a dry rub chicken wrap. We also got a seafood chowder to share. We waited almost 25-30 minutes for our meal which is pretty crazy when there were like 3 other patrons in the restaurant. When we did receive our food, it was pretty bad. The burger was dry and lukewarm at best. The sauce on the burger was good but not enough to save it. The chicken in the wrap tasted old and that too was lukewarm. The worst of it all was the seafood chowder which was unbearably salty! We had like a quarter of the chowder because it was so bad. The only nice thing about this place was that the waitress was nice. But she too had a poor follow up with us and didn't ask us once how the food was. I had to go up to the counter because she didn't come back since she dropped our food off. If I visited Nova Scotia again, I would stay far from this place. read more

And they said it wasn't there job after they told they asked the girl is the phone was on mute. Sauce on the chicken was lovely so there is potential for improvement. I'd really give here a 3.5 I had tried here many years ago when the place first opened, remember enjoying it a lot, but no real detail. (I'm only in Sydney about once a year). Came back for breakfast by myself on an overcast Thursday in January and was the first customer of the day when they opened at 9am. Took a two seater table close to the display counter. The restaurant is like a small café with three 2-seater tables, three 4-seater tables and window seats for six. Simple, clean, modern atmosphere with nothing overly unique in the décor. Lots of natural lighting. Be careful of the floors if it's wet or snowy outside, as it's very slippery, which a door sign warns. They don't take reservations, so if you are coming at meal-time, there may be a wait. Friendly service. The chipotle breakfast wrap (scrambled egg/cheddar/green onion/potato/chipotle mayo. $9) was very good. Just the right size and grilled well so it stayed together to eat without making a mess. Got the extra side of potatoes for which were fresh and tasty ($3 maybe?). My coffee was topped up without me having to ask. While I was there, three other people came, so weekday breakfast doesn't seem to be their busiest time of day. Next visit: a nice, sunny Wednesday for lunch in December. Lucky I got there about 11:30 because the place filled up minutes after I got a table. I tried their 'trio' option where you can select three of various soups & salads. The Italian roasted tomato basil soup is good, a touch bland, but would be nice on a very cold day. The warm sun-dried cheese tortelli is very good, albeit a bit oily. The basil pesto roasted vegetables were good and cooked well. I was happy with the choices and full when I left, although wouldn't say it was overly memorable. Next visit: sunny Saturday morning in September 2018: the place wasn't busy around 9:30am. I sat at a table under the heat pump, so was a bit toasty, but that's fine (also, they have a sign to warn customers in the summer that it gets quite cold there with the AC coming from the unit). The Breakfast Wrap (Egg, Bacon, Green Onion, Cheddar, Basil Pesto Mayo) was delicious, just a good size to be full but not too full, held together well/not messy like many wraps. Passing through Sydney and looking for a quick place to get an early lunch. It was early only around 1140 am and only 3 tables. We ordered the chicken wrap and the burger with a seafood soup. Absolute disappointment. Firstly we waited about 30 mins to get our meal even though there was only 3 other tables. We were really hopeful bc the table beside us got the panini and salad and it looked amazing. Sadly when we received our order it was lukewarm. Burger wasn't even hot and the meat was dry. The wrap was lukewarm as well. Chicken inside tasted like day old rotisserie chicken that was half warm and half cold in some areas and dry. Worst part was the chowder. Unbearably salty. Waitress didn't even come to ask us how our meal was. Will never re come for this place to anyone. read more

Flavor had been a Sydney staple restaurant for me for the last three years. This small bistro style restaurant has a lovely eclectic menu. I enjoy ordering from the entree section because it allows you to choose two sides with your meal, and really, it makes Flavor the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' of dining experiences. On my most recent visit, the restaurant was on their last full week of the summer menu before transitioning to new offerings. For my entree, I ordered the Caribbean Shrimp (Coconut & Cilantro Crusted Shrimp with Pineapple Cream), with sides of Lemon Herb Risotto and Roast Garlic Potato with Chive Butter. Right. Think about that for a few minutes. Okay, now back to the review. The risotto was a tad al dente for my personal liking, but the flavour was wonderful. And while the pairing of the potatoes with the shrimp and risotto may have been a little unusual, it was my choice, and all three dishes hit the spot. I finished the meal with a chocolate coconut square and a great conversation with my friends. We stayed right until closing, and while we remained mindful of the time, we never felt rushed by the staff. Keep in mind: the dining area is small, just a handful of tables and bench seating along the window, but it greatly lends to Flavor's cheerful yet relaxed personality. read more

I've been to Flavor twice, and I've been so impressed with both experiences that I'll be making this a regular destination every time I visit Sydney. One might think that Sydney wouldn't have much to offer in the vegetarian/gluten-free arena, nor would most people assume that you'd find something so creative and fresh in little 'ol Sydney. Have no fear, for anyone looking for a hip, bistro experience that feels down to earth, Flavor will more than satisfy. My favorite option is the trio of salads. All of their freshly made options are on display, so by being allowed to try three at once (servings are generous, but never overwhelming) my tastebuds are never bored. Other options include delectable desserts, fantastic mains, and on my last visit they had whipped up a daily special that AM that was wowing the lunch crowd so much that there was a lot of chatter about adding it to the menu! I liked that there was a lot of interesting and healthy choices on the menu. Also, our waitress was helpful and pleasant. I ordered curried veggies on brown rice. Our food was cooked to order and served hot. We never felt rushed and the prices were reasonable, too. A cute little joint serving up fresh meal with a modern flaire My sister in law who lives in the area loves this spot. Popped by for lunch around 2 p.m on a Monday and it was busy. They have a small patio on the front and a few tables inside, in addition to a window table/stool combo. We got a table after waiting 10 minutes. Friendly , pro-baby service. Our group of three adults and a baby had a great lunch of fresh soup of the day (carrot and ginger), the breakfast sandwich (simple but with a thick omelette ), the chicken sandwich wrap, a chowder (it was okay but not great) and a fabulous MacAttack sandwich which was on feature. I loved my MacAttack with it's jambalaya rice, pulled pork and whole bunch of oooey gooey goodness wrapped in a Greek pita. The family recipe coconut cookie with warm chocolate drizzle was ......... sinfully delicious. I can only imagine what the cookie sandwich must be like! The booster seat could use a bit of a wash but I was glad they atleast had one! Would be back for sure! They seem to change up the menu quite often. The Sunday brunch looked wicked! This is the little restaurant up the side street in downtown, not the big one on the wharf. This is a very special restaurant: five-star cuisine at fairly bargain prices. The chef took care to do some special sides for our picky kids, and we feasted on fresh seafood and an amazing salad. The dishes had just the right touch of originality to them without being showy, presentation was wonderful. The decor is like an old udon place that got a pastel makeover, and there's very little seating, which made it all the more surprising that we ended up with the kind of meal that could compete with the best restaurant meals I've had in San Francisco and New York. Seriously, we were so impressed we asked to meet the chef. A young talent who will likely move on sooner than later, but in the meantime, feast here as much as you can. read more

We recently drove in to Sydney during our vacation in Cape Breton, and had the absolute best meal of the trip at Flavor. We decided to split the southwest-style salmon with balsamic spinach salad and Joe's Flavor Bomb toasted sandwich between the two of us. We would have been happy picking off each other's plates, but the waiter noted that we would be sharing and organised the two dishes to be split evenly between two plates. How thoughtful! Both dishes were amazing. I didn't have very high expectations from the sandwich, having had one too many experiences with less than fresh bread in restaurants, but I was happy to be proved wrong. The bread was fresh and toasted to perfection, the ingredients worked amazingly well in combination - crunchy bacon and onion, creamy avocado and spicy jalapenos stood out. I would definitely order both dishes again. Flavor folks, please open up a site in Halifax. I would be a regular customer, I promise! read more

The seafood chowder was good but lacked a richness that fatty salmon should impart. The feature, a NY Strip with a demi-glaze and sauteed opm, was good albeit a little too sweet. The accompanying spinach risotto was prepared perfectly but lacked the flavor profile to hold up next the heavily seasoned steak. The service was adequate but not overwhelmingly attentive. Long stretches of absence marked by a long wait for the entree. The beer and wine selection is rather pedestrian; no real envelopes being push in this area. And only wine and beer...no full bar as listed in the description. The only red wines by the glass were a Malbec from Argentina and a Shiraz from downunder. Not a single pinot noir, cabernet, or even merlot available. To sum it up; I assume Flavor was/is a deli transitioning to restaurant. This is evident by the six tables that can accommodate 20 patrons (get a reservation for any size party) as well as the fluorescent lit deli & beverage coolers in the dinning room. read more

Everytime I'm home I like to stop by Flavor for something new. Great staff, always busy, and always great. Only issue is that with such demand, it gets loud and people like to camp out at tables for hours, meaning their success is their only downfall. If this lunch place was in any other city in Canada, they'd have 4 locations by now. After a few days of driving around the area and eating mainly seafood and pub food we were craving healthy salads and wraps. Thanks to tripadvisor and yelp we came across this little joint. Great little restaurant out in Sydney! The food was fantastic and the service was great. Stop by for lunch on a weekday and ordered a seafood chowder which is worth the visit by itself. Bowl was over flowing with a combination of haddock, salmon, shrimp... Etc. For the main course we had the crab cakes and the Greek chicken, which was very nice with juicy chicken breasts topped with a nice salad and avocados. I met a friend there for brunch on my first visit home in 19 years. Food was great, place was clean and we were really enjoying catching up. UNTIL the waitress came over with the debit machine and our bills and were telling customers as they walked in that our table would 'be ready in a minute'! Not impressed!
