It was a 2 piece fish and chips with gravy on the side!

Loved being able to take out. Also appreciate the discount for hotel patrons. We also enjoyed a seafood chowder (delicious) and a flourless chocolate tortilla. Very satisfied!

Had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant 2x a day for 3 days...(didn't want to drive). Kiju's offers good food, good service and all meals were great. They serve "homemade" biscuits instead of the usual bread and butter, which was an interesting substitution from the same-old...

Nice interior, reminds me of a nice chain restaurant. Service was fine, nothing great but night amazing. Ordered a flatbread and poutine. Both were not good. Too oily for the flatbread and the poutines gravy was strange and did not suit the dish. I would never order either dish again. Out of my dining experience I'd recommend only going for drinks.

Bit of a disappointment. Had our first meal here since arriving at the Cape Breton Island, since it was attached to the hotel we were staying. Probably the longest wait for the food to arrive, and the food was dry. A bit pricey and not worth the meal. The chicken and fries offered at the Membertou market by the gas station in conparison was appreciated and enjoyed by the whole family. Great ambiance and atmosphere, but the food was a let down.

    Soupy salad and burnt burger.

We are staying at the hotel that's attached to the restaurant. Clearly, all of the restaurants in Sydney must've decided that they need to close at 7 or 7:30 pm at the latest and the only options were either going back to that awful Boston Pizza or this one. Salmon was surprisingly well done, but everything else was just mediocre. Salad was once again might as well soup with too much dressing. Seafood Chowder was creamy and bland. My son's burger was too overdone and dry.

One of the 2 taco appie. One hard shell and this soft shell.

I don't know why but my review is showing the cost range as being $$$$. It is not. It is easily $$ but I can't change how it is displayed. Anyway, back to the review. We've been here numerous times over the years. Enjoyed it initially then there seemed to be a period of decline a couple of years ago. Happily, we revisited a couple of days ago and they seem to have rebounded. That being said, the place was empty. Like, we were the only ones there. It was a Monday so bear that in mind. Pleasant waitress took good care. We weren't famished so we stuck to the appies. It was a good plan. There was more than enough food. My wife ordered the small chowder and calamari. Chowder had a decent balance of seafood and potatoes and just on the edge of being too thick for my taste. Very tasty tho. The calamari was excellent. Light batter and very tender made it a winner. I had the shrimp tacos. Big for an app more of a meal really. But MESSY! Not first date food, I tell ya wut. Deep fried shrimp kind of got lost in the topping. A little different but pretty good over all. A nice venue but a little out of the way. Not a bad bet in a town that could use more good dining. One small but kind of weird thing was that to get a wifi password I was supposed to sign a form with my drivers licence number. Not sure what that was supposed to accomplish. I just made a number up so...

Great restaurant attached to the Hampton Inn. I ordered the Haddock and it was fantastic. Didn't expect this for middle-of-nowhere NS.

I don't usually write reviews, but this experience genuinely deserves attention. On July 21st, I…read morevisited A&W with a friend and had one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've ever encountered--especially from someone in a supervisory role. We placed an order for two meals and an extra burger on the side. Strangely, the burger was handed over within just 1-2 minutes, even before we were seated. My friend took one bite and said it didn't taste fresh. I tried mine and realized both burgers were completely cold--including the patties. Even the fries and onion rings were cold. Not lukewarm--cold. We called the supervisor, Austin, and politely let him know. Instead of handling it with basic courtesy, he became defensive and insisted everything was made fresh. Still, he took the food back... and came back with the exact same items we had just returned. He told us he could only replace the fries and onion rings because he decided the burgers were fine. I repeated that the burgers were cold and asked for a replacement. His response? "Next time you want fresh food, just tell us while ordering." I was stunned. Isn't it standard to expect warm, freshly prepared food at a restaurant? Since when do customers need to request that their meal be made fresh? He kept repeating the same lines--"We don't hold patties," "We make everything fresh"--yet somehow our entire order came out in under two minutes. When I pointed that out, he just brushed it off. At one point, he even mentioned a similar issue happened a week ago, hinting that we were trying to scam the store. That comment was humiliating, insulting, and completely uncalled for. At that point, I was so frustrated, I told him, "Forget the food--I don't want it anymore. I just want a refund. I'll go eat somewhere else." Thankfully, I did receive a refund, but even then, there was no apology. No acknowledgment of the poor food quality. No ownership of how badly the situation was handled. I spent nearly $40 and walked away feeling disrespected, unheard, and embarrassed in front of my friends. The lack of professionalism, empathy, and accountability was honestly shocking--especially coming from someone who's supposed to be a supervisor. To the management: this kind of behavior drives customers away. I sincerely hope you take this seriously. People deserve better than cold food and condescending service.

Then the food arrived - very timely, especially considering the hardships of staffing in 2022. The best part was the food! We ordered the fish & chips & a Senior dinner - Haddock. Delicious. Then came dessert: Home baked Butterscotch Pie (impossible to find in our neck of the woods, a lucky find on vacation) - the real thing. Also Blueberry pie - warmed. Lovely crust, great flavor. Five stars all around.

By the time we left around 1, there were more customers, but it wasn't as busy as the prior year when I had come here for supper. Friendly, standard service. My side Caesar salad was quite good, standard, but flavorful, and a large size for a side. I thought by ordering two small dishes, I wouldn't be too full, but that plus the potato skins I got, I couldn't finish it all. The skins were not bad, with a fair bit of cheese, some bare skins at the side/bottom as often is the case, but no real complaints. My friend had the hot hamburger with fries & side of carrots, which he liked enough, but didn't find it memorable. For dessert he tried the mince meat pie and liked it a fair bit, as did I the coconut cream pie. (after being so full from my meal that I could barely breathe, i still had a sweet tooth.. lol). So this place is not on my top favorite list of Sydney restaurants, but I find it relaxing, homey and simple enough where I'd still come back anytime someone suggested.
