This is a fun, trendy bar with delicious drinks and solid service. It's totally worth checking out. First, I love the theming. Kaiju is Japanese for "movie monster." Ever seen Pacific Rim (2013)? The logo looks like a rough outline of Godzilla. The menu is designed to look like Japanese monster (e.g., Pokemon) trading card books. Each cocktail has its own card art, stats, and tasting notes. Neat. And the vibe of the place is like - I don't know - Japanese neon Blade Runner. It's cool. The four of us got a variety of drinks and were welcomed to our table with complimentary shots. I had the Guije cocktail which cost $24 after tax and tip. Yes, that's the one thing about this place - the drinks aren't cheap. Tasting notes: "Guije is a savory, tropical, and funky cocktail featuring Chairman's Reserve Rum spiced with Mojo Criollo, offering hints of bay leaf, pepper and garlic. Along with fresh mango, lime, Maduro, to round out the robust yet tropical flavors." It was strong, refreshing, and fantastic. All of our drinks were presented beautifully too. My wife thought she left her wallet here. The next day, I DMed @bar_kaiju on Instagram and they got back to me in less than a couple hours. Whoever got back to me was responsive and kind. (Luckily, the wallet turned up elsewhere, but their help was appreciated.) Bar Kaiju is located on the 2nd floor (mezzanine level) of the Citadel food hall. It opened in December 2022. I found out after the fact that they were ranked #77 on the "North America's 50 Best Bars" extended list in 2025.

Once I found the elevator, Kaiju was clearly labeled there tho. The entire bar is dark and has cool red lights all around. We went to the bar to get seated and were led to an open table for our group. Our waiter immediately filled our water glasses and brought the menu. The menu is super cool because each drink is presented as a Pokémon card. There's a lot of info especially on how they compare to classic cocktails. Everything on the menu looked good so my friends and I got a bunch of different drinks. Some of my favorites were the Rodan, Guije, and the pandan drink (I forgot the name). The Michelangelo was also good but a little spirit forward for my taste. I'm excited to come back and try some more of the menu.

You'd think these folks just took your best friends magical back yard and created the most fun party in their house, but instead its at Understory and you can enjoy this oasis weekly on Thursday's and Fridays. I went for the first time last Thursday where I got to try a rum punch but with Mezcal that was delish. Then I moved on to a selection of delish wines and pizza by Flour and Weirdoughs. To say the vibe is impeccable is an understatement. I happily stayed until they closed at midnight, passing the time hanging out with friends and listening to the most fire playlist. They also have live jazz that starts at 9, which you can't really hear from the wine bar area since the space is so large, and DJs later in the evening as well as Friday. You can enjoy free entry before 8:30 pm. The best way to stay up to date on their weekly pop ups is to follow them on IG at @Understorymia. Can't wait to return!

Deliciously fluffy and great with butter but they are still just dinner rolls. Hokkaido scallops (5/5): honestly one of the best bites of food I've had in years. The sweetness of the scallops, slight spice from the sauce, and balanced with pickled ginger...perfection. No words after bite 1, near tears after bite 2. Agnolotti (5/5): get this. The corn, crab, sauce...everything about this worked. This is like a healthy work environment where everyone lifts each other up. You'll get the sweet, the chew, the softness, the salty. Just get it. 26 oz ribeye (4.5/5) with peppercorn sauce (4/5) and bone marrow vinaigrette (5/5): okay so this dish was our main and it did not disappoint. You can definitely taste the beefiness from the dry aging and that alone was enough. With the peppercorn sauce it was great. BUT with the bone marrow vinaigrette, that took this steak from "really good" to life changing experience. Kouign amann ice cream sandwich (5/5): if you've never had a kouign amann, it's like if a croissant and a cake had a baby. Add in some ice cream and this dessert would've had to choke me to death on the way down to not get a 5/5. I'm alive and arguably more than ever after eating this platonic concept of dessert perfection. Get this! The restaurant was beautiful, interior looks like an NYC steakhouse while the exterior outdoor seating is very Miami. The service was some of the best I've ever had. Every server was knowledgeable, friendly, and you felt like they all really enjoy being here. Overall, if you're in Miami, you have to come here. The staff make you feel at home the moment you walk onto the property. I say property because it is much more than a restaurant. It is a gorgeous courtyard, multiple bars, a huge dining room. It's one of the most unique layouts I've seen and it creates the foundation for an incredible experience. Our reservation was 8:30pm on a Sunday and it was packed. There was not a single open table. We left around 11pm and still, totally packed. Sunny's is a hot restaurant - anytime, any day they are booked solid. The food is incredible. We started with the raw bar and had oysters, scallops, hamachi, and razor clams. The raw razor clams were the best I've ever had. The scallop with the salsa verde.... Wow. Amazing bites. We got the sausage filled with Comte cheese. This is one of the best items on the menu. Must order. We ordered the agnolotti and cavatelli. The duck cavatelli is an excellent pasta dish. The crab agnolotti is one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had, if not the best (contenders are Torrisi and Lilia so you know I know). When you bite into the agnolotti, it bursts like a soup dumpling filled with rich corn butter and cream. It's quite literally magical. You have to appreciate the genius and talent that went into this dish. We finished with the hanger steak - perfectly cooked and seasoned. We enjoyed it with potato butter and green peppercorn sauce. We also got the fries. A perfect, golden, crispy fry dipped into the potato butter as an experience on its own. Our dinner ended with the kouign Amann ice cream sandwich. A must order if your second stomach can handle it. Not sure if I've used the work "spectacular" in any of my Yelp reviews to date, but Sunny's deserves it. A night to remember!

A large group of us gathered here for dinner and late-night drinks on a Friday night. This is a fun, happening spot. It's ideal if you're looking for a casual, laid-back night out in Miami. The rooftop can handle a lot of people. My wife and I ordered food downstairs at Manjay, the Caribbean/Haitian stall at the food court, and took it up to the rooftop (there's an elevator). You are allowed to do this at the Citadel (take food from the food court up to the roof). Staff on the rooftop will bus trays and tableware. I recommend Manjay, by the way, and left a review for it separately here on Yelp. On the rooftop, I had a couple of martinis, one extra dirty. They were well made and delicious. Our friends had a variety of drinks including beer (e.g., Monopolio Mexican amber lager). Pint glasses were served iced over which is certainly nice in the South Florida heat. Service was good. The staff was nice. Several of the chairs had holes in the seats, so that was annoying. The vibe was lively and friendly. Good music.

The restaurant is conveniently located right on the downtown strip with free street parking nearby, which is always a plus. The atmosphere was inviting from the moment we walked in. The host welcomed us and told us we could sit anywhere we liked, so we chose a quieter table away from the bar area. There is also a stage section that looked perfect for live music nights, although there was no entertainment during our visit. Overall, the ambiance was trendy, relaxed, and had a great neighborhood feel. They also appeared to have some very good happy hour specials for those who drink. Our server was very sweet and offered several recommendations. We decided to share the burrata appetizer and the skirt steak dinner. The steak arrived first and looked absolutely beautiful. The quality of the meat itself was outstanding and cooked very well. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable charred flavor from what seemed like a dirty grill, which took away from an otherwise excellent steak. It was disappointing because the quality of the meat was truly superb. The fries were also surprisingly good and almost tasted closer to sweet potato fries. At that point, we realized our burrata appetizer had been forgotten. Once we flagged down our server, she immediately corrected the mistake and brought it out quickly. Thankfully, it was absolutely delicious and ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. The fresh burrata paired perfectly with the heirloom tomatoes and tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. Toward the end of dinner, service became difficult again. We were ready for more water, a box, and the check, but our server was nowhere to be found despite the restaurant not being particularly busy since it was still early in the evening. I eventually had to get up and ask the bartender for assistance. Overall, I really enjoyed the ambiance and appreciated the quality of the food. There were definitely some service inconsistencies, but the restaurant has a lot of potential and several dishes that stood out.
