Excellent service and delicious food! Keep in mind that I don't know what "authentic" Indian food tastes like, so I thought the aloo ghobi & shrimp tandoori I tried was very tasty. The aloo ghobi was not spicey at all however, even though I very specifically asked for spicy. The rice was delicious and the cauliflowers, potatoes & other vegetables in the aloo ghobi tasted fresh albeit a bit greasy. This place is fine as long as you don't want butter chicken. I was so disappointed. I went there mainly for butter chicken and what I got was a yellow colored sauce that tasted like a cross between a sweet mustard and curry flavor. It was ok, but it's definitely not the usual. This seemed to have good reviews on Yelp. We ordered for standard Paneer Makhani, Tabdoori Roti and Paratha. The paneer veggie lacked flavour and difficult to finish. The Paratha was loaded with butter to the point that you couldn't taste anything else. Service was non existent, water glasses were never refilled, there was no service at all after food was served. We went last Monday with out of town visitors, our regular Indian food being closed. The food was generally very good, some dishes better and some not quite as good. Shrimp phatia, my favourite, was sweeter than usual and less hot while lamb madras was much hotter. The portions were smaller. We ordered 4 dishes plus rice and nan bread and ate it all. A bit disappointing because we usually have some to take home. The decor is very nice and the service is very good. Lots of room around the tables. Horrible food and terrible service!! I would give it 0 stars if I could. Stopped by this Indian place on route from Quebec City to Toronto with a reservation and what a horrible experience! It took upwards of 45 minutes to get food after placing the order because the place is busy serving takeout clients. We had asked for a vegetarian curry and what we got was some vegetables stir fried in almost a bowl full of oil. It was disgusting and just ruined our appetite. When we attempted to discuss the situation with their staff, they were rude and said vegetarian dishes don't really have a curry. Every single Indian place I have been to across the world has curries in vegetarian dishes, so I have no clue what fancy Indian food this place is serving. These people need to take some cooking and hosting lessons or they might as well shut down in public interest. read more

The decor of this restaurant is nice and classy, the service is fast and the restaurant in generally clean, the food here is really good, if you're craving some Indian cuisine I would highly recommend coming here. We ordered the vegetable samosas to start, and had the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Madras with a side of 2 parathas and a garlic naan, and a lassi to wash things down. Everything was really tasty, and filling, the portions are decent and the mango lassi was delicious and refreshing. Would definitely come back here again. read more

Very friendly service. Nice to have a bread delivered when we sat down. Dishes were OK. Would like to come back for more testing, but it felt like the dishes over promised on the menu, gave the full expectation of a great experience with atmosphere, but we wondered if the veges were previously frozen and really felt like the items that were supposed to be in the dishes were kept at a minimum. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to in my life. My family visited here while passing through Kingston and it was such a memorable experience, that we are planning on coming all the way from Texas just to eat here again sometime. The aloo samosas were the best I have ever had -- even more than my Pakistani or Indian mothers cooking. The decor is beyond the scale of what I have come to expect from such excellent pricing. The decor is clean and modern, better than 99% of restros on this strip. Service is prompt. Oh but the food. There's more salt in it than any online gatcha game I've ever played. From the soup to the main everything except rice is salty. Walk in healthy, walk out with a high blood pressure. Ok maybe not, but the dinner I had certainly met my month of sodium intake quota. We stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon while on vacation. They were not too busy (possibly a byproduct of all the construction downtown) and it was closer to their closing time. Despite getting there late in their lunch hour and wanting to order from the tandoori oven which takes 15-20 minutes to cook, we never felt rushed. They were very friendly and even brought us an appetizer to try since it would take them longer to make our food. The food was amazing! The flavors were different than I am used to, but that happens because the different regions of India all have their own preference. The chicken was moist, tender, and very flavorful. It was also plentiful - I had enough for a second meal. The rice, palao instead of basmati, was also a welcome difference from the usual. Finally, the naan was warm and buttery and just a tad sweeter than I am used to, but also yummy. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Ordered food from them two nights ago, they were very friendly and accommodating on the phone. Unfortunately their food was sub par. I ordered lamb vandaloo which tasted okay other than the questionable "lamb". It was either boiled beef or horse... Definitely wasn't lamb. I also ordered the butter chicken. The sauce came curdled and bland, and it was obvious that the chicken was cooked first then put into the sauce. The naan was delicious, and the papadums were a delicious treat. The food here is amazing, and the service is excellent. I got the lamb dhansak, with rice, naan, raitha (yogurt with cucumber), and lime pickle (all of which i shared with my girlfriend, who had ordered the chicken madras). It was the most flavorful dinner that I have had in ages. The dhansak is a little sweet, a little tangy, and a little spicy, while the yogurt is cool and fresh and the pickle is bitter and intense. The madras is spicy and creamy. It's fairly hard to describe how everything tasted put together, but I hope it's enough to just say it was delicious. The food here, for me, was an intense experience and one I wish I could have again, though I sadly don't live in Kingston. Be warned, for average white people like me, the food can get somewhat spicy, even the menu items with a single spice mark. But, if you combine everything together and use the raitha judiciously, you shouldn't suffer. It would be a shame to just stick to the western-friendly part of the menu (i.e. all of the mild stuff) and miss out on the richness of the rest of the menu. The prices are good, and we got a large amount of food - enough to take home for lunch the following day (and it tasted just as good when warmed back up). This restaurant was very worth it. I don't usually write reviews but this place surely deserved one as mine is contradictory to the other 4 reviews for this restaurant. If you are an Indian or have a taste of authentic indian food then you should avoid this place. The food is tailored towards local non Indians who perhaps do not have a lot of insight into the flavors of indian cuisine. For eg. Garlic naan is served topped with garlic paste. Chicken bhuna had pieces of chicken and almost raw veggies which did not blend with the gravy. Chicken wrap was dry and served on wheat bread more like a burrito. Obviously the chef or the owner are not from India or know anything about the flavors. Avoid if you want traditional Indian food. Overpriced too compared to similar indian restaurants. This is my first time at an Indian restaurant with fresh, homemade Indian food. I deeply enjoyed the food and experience I had here. It was a group of us so we ordered our dishes to share between 5 people. We ordered a far amount so they gave us their mulligatawny soup on the house, along with some fresh papadum. Which was excellent, the flavours were on point. The other dishes we ordered were: chicken tikka masala, rogan josh, shrimp jalfrezi, aloo gobi, bombay aloo, onion salad, rice, and of course fresh naan (of course!). There wasn't a dish I personally didn't like and everyone else seemed to really enjoy it as well. The flavours were amazing and everything didn't just blend together. My favourite was definitely the rogan josh by far! It just melts in your mouth, it's absolutely delicious! The service was great. The manager took care of us for the most part and he was very polite, attentive, and generous. The timing was perfect between meals and everything seemed to flow smoothly. The decor and overall atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Of course we went at lunch time on a Monday so of course it was probably on the quieter side. Overall, a great place to go for Indian food. Okay, if you have any idea what Indian food is suppose to be like, this place is eons from it. The food is horrendous! The servers have no idea what half the things mean. They start you off with a papad, which reeks of used oil. The food lacks basic flavour from spices which is expected of Indian food (tadka). The samosas seemed to be refried a few times and as a result were stale and greasy. After all this, if you ended up going to the washroom to wash your hands of all the oil and unflavoured food, the stench will haunt you for the rest of the day. read more

Let's start by saying that I have lived for 18 years in San Francisco, love eating out and have tried all of the top rated, expensive restaurants there. My best friend of 47 years is from India, so I am accustomed to home cooked Indian food. This wonderful restaurant tastes just like being at her home! Fabulous rogan josh, mixed vegetable curry, pappadom, palao rice and naan. Servings are not skimpy and easily shared for two, just the right amount of spice. I also love the modern elegant decor.This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have been blessed to find anywhere, and will go again the next visit to Mom in Kingston. read more
