Situated on the prettiest road in the Borough, fronting the Common, next to shops and cafes crowded with young mothers and their children, Jo Partridge is a peaceful haven where the music isn't too loud and the service is laid-back but professional. I have used them now for a couple of years having graduated from a famous West End barber, and am more than satisfied. My daughter likes them too, so they cater for all styles:-)

I was fed up of paying a small fortune for a mulleted clone to give me an average haircut whilst staring blankly into space. I think they think because they give you a glass of cava and your allowed to sit in one of their overly- aggressive massage chairs they can double the prices. Anyway!In sharp contrast Jo Partridge is an unpretentious breath of fresh air. The staff are really friendly and will bend over backwards to accomodate you. They have a good selection of drinks, current magazines and a good selection of background music. As well as that they also cut and colour hair to an exceptional standard and actually listen to what you want. The haircut I walked away with was ultimately a good one: I had arrived on what could quite fairly be called a 'bad hair day', and came out with a nice new do. And in many ways, that's all I want to take away from the experience. I'd gone on a Wahanda deal, which made the cut exceptionally good value, and I quite like the quirky premises. However, the customer service I received was quite wide of the mark and surprised me a great deal. I don't think the staff intended to be rude, but fundamentally this is the only time I've EVER been made to feel ashamed of my hair in a salon (and I've rocked up at salons in some fairly unkempt states in the past, curly hair does that to you if you don't have two hours a day to 'tame' it) and I just don't think this is excusable. I was already feeling embarrassed about the state my hair was in when I walked in, and normally, what happens next is that the hairdresser puts you at your ease. That's the professional thing to do IMHO. What I actually got was wincing 'yuck' expressions from my stylist as she pulled on my hair (we can see you in the mirror you know). I was then asked 'do I brush it?' and I did not need to be told that there was probably not much they could do for me. I went to the sinks feeling like a lost cause! Most of all though, I definitely did not need the assistant asking me cheerily So! Do you like your frizz? What sort of a daft question is that? After all that, they actually did an amazing job as I knew they would believe it or not even horrible hair like mine responds well to being properly treated, and I won't fault the treatments so why put me on the back foot from the start? I can honestly say this is the first time in about 20 years I have felt insecure about my hair, even if it is sorted for now.

Anywhere which is a vintage shop with a hidden barber shop in the back is going to get my attention, and after reading magazines where Agnes Deyne and other celebs talking about it, I knew it was going to be an interesting experience. Normally when I get a haircut, it is a £5 job in Scarborough. Short back and sides with a trimmer and a cut on top. When I entered, I was offered a cup of tea and a mince pie(YES!) Then I was taken for a consultation and Sarah told me what would suit me. I was then treated to a shampoo and head massage and another mince pie! Sarah then cut and styled my hair She was very chatty, very nice and wasn't the standard barber shop chatter which was a nice change to have in London. You definitely notice the difference with the type of haircuts, the look is so much better then what it was. I have read some of the reviews below and can't believe what has been said. This is why QYPE is so good, everyone gets to share their opinions, however it has to be fair. Paul and the crew are great, the shop and layout is so cool and the overall experience is 5 stars. The atmosphere is spot on, with really friendly staff and lots of places to sit and relax while you wait for a nail technician to become available. There is a food and drink area which has a small menu offering cakes, quiches, juice, alcohol, tea and coffee. Unfortunately, you can't book in advance so, unless you arrive at a very quiet time, getting a coffee and flicking through magazines seems to be pretty much part of the experience. The usual prices for nails and hair are quite reasonable, considering that this beauty parlour is run by the same company behind Cowshed. They don't offer a full manicure, so at £10 for a shape and paint (with a free bottle of nail colour to take home) I'd say it's fairly good value if you just want a quick fix. Having nail art will vastly increase the price - especially if you're like me and prefer to have the whole set done - it's £1.50 per nail! My experience was somewhat marred by the sullen attitude of the woman doing my nails. However, I think I was just unlucky, as the other nail technicians seemed really chatty and nice. Don't get me wrong - I'm not expecting for someone to actually feign interest in my day, but a little bit of interaction and friendliness doesn't go amiss! My nail art also looked a bit amateurish, so my advice would be not to bother having nail art - it bumps up the price of your manicure and the options are fairly limited. For a special occasion, or before a big night out, this is a fun place to come with a friend. You could eat lunch or have a coffee depending on the waiting time, and after your treatments you could have a go in the 'selfie studio', which is free to use. Despite its name, I think you'd have to be a bit pathetic and vain to go in there alone!

They washed and blow dried my hair brilliantly twice and were charming, helpful, and the whole experience was lovely. After having such a great time with the hair side, I thought I'd get my nails done. I've had two manicures so far, which are just simple polish jobs, but it's been lovely, my technician has given me a little hand massage with each manicure and I've left with perfect nails, and super soft hands (I need to get some of their hand cream...) Did I mention that they let you take the polish home with you?? Yup! You pick your colour and get to take a lovely fresh bottle of gorgeous polish home with you. All for £15! I mean, seriously, how can you not be excited by that?? PS: They definitely do appointments now (a previous reviewer said they didn't)

I also had a Brazilian wax there (there is a beauty section at the back) and again, the girl who looked after me was fantastic, it was (almost) painless- she has a very firm grip and chats to you whilst she goes along to keep you distracted from the pain. That also cost £10 and she did a good a job as (if not better) than many expensive places I have been to in the past where I have been charged around £40 for the same treatment!!

I had booked an app't because I heard it was busy. I had to wait a little bit but it didn't matter because I don't know anywhere else where you can get a Brazillian wax for £10. The beautician chatted away and distracted from the pain. I didn't get my hair cut, but my housemate has and it looked really good. It's best to bring a picture if you have a specific idea in mind. I was skeptical of the place before I went as it isn't much to look at from the outside and the prices are disturbingly low, but I am now a convert and highly recommend that everyone go.

The hairdressers are super friendly and good at their jobs (I tend to go to Ben, who I highly recommend - you even get a little head massage when you're having your hair washed!). Despite being a (slightly generous) five-ish minute walk from Victoria Station, it's in the region of £20 for a wash and cut! And wash, cut and blow-dry is still under 40 quid. There are plenty or barbershops and hairdressers to choose from so I have only been making preliminary investigations at he moment, but I have already found a good reliable service here at BHF. For the very affordable £9, I can get a decent haircut, usually as soon as I walk in with no prior booking. This is extremely convenient for me and makes me very keen to come back again with this company. The atmosphere is very friendly inside, with a female majority staff. I entered with an untamed mane and left looking sharp and clean cut. Very good value for money especially considering the low price. If you are looking for more of a barbershop experience with wet shaves and what-not, then this isn't the place to go. If you are wanting a good haircut (Men and Women) then pop into BHF.
