Turns out the pair I asked for first was the "the one" but I was really happy with the assistance I received. Shopping for shoes isn't my favorite, but my experience was so hassle-free! Even when they're not busy, getting assistance is tricky. Turns out, it's an IYKYK thing -- you must formally ask at the front desk, where you are then placed on a "waiting list" that may or may not result in help. I recently walked out after waiting over 10 minutes with just one other customer inside and at least four employees with more important things to do than sell me shoes. My other two visits this year went the same way. If you skip the cryptic waitlist step, they will let you wander around the store without ever acknowledging you. read more

I had a very frustrating experience when picking up my shoes, assisted by Shak. When I gave my name, he immediately asked what specific shoe I was picking up. I explained that I didn't remember the exact model and asked if he could look me up by name, either on the box or in the computer directly in front of him. He told me he could only search by the specific shoe and proceeded to give me a hard time for not knowing the exact name--without first checking the computer. After going back and forth unnecessarily, he finally went to check and, unsurprisingly, my full name was clearly written on the top of the box. This entire delay could have been avoided. While still in the middle of helping me, he then stopped our interaction to assist the customer behind me--who was only purchasing a water--because that customer was impatient. I was left standing there, mid-transaction, completely ignored. At that point, my frustration peaked and I stopped engaging because I couldn't believe how dismissive and rude the behavior was. To make matters worse, he then asked if my name was "Robert" because there was someone else with the same last name. When he finally turned the screen toward me, my name was directly under Robert's, clearly visible. This only reinforced how careless the entire interaction had been. This was an incredibly unprofessional and unwelcoming experience for something that should have been a simple shoe pickup. My most reason visit to Fleet Feet was not to grab the last, cool pair of runners or was it to sign up to train for the Chicago Marathon using FREE AND FUN groups/classes nor was it to check out their chic yet highly practical workout wear. My situation is a little different.... I explained to my sales person. I'll probably never run a marathon again. I just started to hit the gym after 6 mos of intense physical therapy from a car accident resulting in having a full, right hip replacement & probably needing a knee replacement. Came in on a Saturday around noon to get fitted for some new running shoes. We waited roughly 45 minutes to be seen. Meg was helping me today and I appreciate the care she took in the entire process. She was thorough and gave me plenty of options/advice based off the evaluations from my foot and from what I told her. I ended up finding just what I was looking for! I flew all the way from the East Coast to grab this pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 during the 15% off school sale! Slight exaggeration but locally there weren't any stores that had a pair in my size (7.5W) in that model so I had asked them to reserve it for me at one of the Chicago stores and that's how I ended up here..They have a treadmill in this store which is helpful for people who like to try out their shoes in a different capacity. There was credit on my account but a blip in the system prevented them from viewing that on first try but the store manager was super kind and professional about the situation and helped me resolve the situation. Fleet Feet has never missed a mark in terms of service the times I've stopped by (I frequent different locations every time), so they're doing something right! I'll keep coming. read more

I had been meaning to drop in here for quite some time as I never get the right running shoes so I figured I would start the new year off right last week. Made my appointment for Monday Jan 2nd around 3:30 and I got a chance to work with Graham who did a scan of my foot with their cool computer technology and surprisingly found out that I needed to go a size and a half up. He brought out about 3 pair of shoes that he felt worked for me. I wound up buying 2 of them. I have since run in one pair and so far so good. They have lots of workout gear and things for recovery in addition to the nice running shoe collection. No sure I will need to return anytime soon, but when I need a new pair I will drop in here. read more

1 star for poor check out organization. I visited during mid afternoon on a weekday, not too especially busy, but lines were sluggish. There were 3 registers with 2 cashiers. Waited in an existing line line with one person ahead of me. Once that person was served, the 1st cashier person then ignored me, but no problem, I waited to be called upon. Another person hopped in front of me with a floor representative to the 3rd register, sure no problem, makes sense. A new customer went to directly to the 1st cashier that was ignoring me, and and was helped ahead of me. I asked if there was a line, and was told "you need to wait for a register to open" by the second cashier. For THIS insensitive comment, and the total indifference of the 1st cashier who said nothing, I'm leaving one star for customer service and poor checkout organization. If you want to check out here, you're going to need to be aggressive and disregard all other customers. 1 star added as a good place for race packet pick up. read more

Thank you for two straight days of awesome customer service! My husband and I live in Streeterville but were out towards Lincoln Park on Saturday afternoon, and we decided to stop into the Road Runners store. After twenty minutes of no one helping us and all staff disappearing into the back of the store leaving 4 customers out front for 10+ minutes trying to figure out what happened... we left. As we walked home, we came across Fleet Feet. My husband is a marathoner, while I am a mid distance runner. We stopped into Fleet Feet and were immediately greeted with a smiling face and someone who offered to help us find our desired products. We even found something not on our list - an awesome new running jacket with zip-able back slots and water bottle holders. The staff were busy with the Saturday business, but we still got all our questions answered without issue. Mid way through our run today, we went back over to grab a second Nathan water bottle and a running hat. Again, we were welcomed and helped. There are all ages and runner types working at this store, which is awesome to see. I had a great experience with my latest footwear purchase at Fleet Feet. I feel I have the hardest foot to find a shoe for. Every shoe it's either one thing or another that doesn't work for me. But these guys at fleet fleet were great even after trying on about every shoe they sell ha. They went every route to find the shoe with a perfect fit for me. I finally chose the Brooks Glycerin 17. Great neutral shoe with loads of cushion which is a must for me. Do yourself the favor and go to the Lincoln square location instead. I can't BEGIN to explain the experience at the Old town location. The staff is no where and everywhere at the same time. I came in to purchase some shoes. I was told to return to the front after looking at the shoes I wanted. I returned to speak with the employees and she requested I tell her EVERY PAIR that I wanted to try on. I'm sorry, but how am I suppose to remember the 4 pairs of shoes I wanna try on outside of just knowing the brand. She couldn't care any less to help. She insisted on writing the shoe names on a sticky note. After waiting for an about 5 minutes , another employee came to drop off the shoes. Literally JUST DROP off the shoes on the bench. No "hello" no "hi , my names ___" NOTHING. The customer service is abysmal, yet there were 4-5 free employees standing around talking to each other like it was high school. I decided on the shoes I wanted , without ANY HELP or recommendations from any of the employees. I walked up to pay for the shoes, the employees at the front couldn't bare to stop their conversations to help me. I COULD HAVE WALKED OUT WITH THE SHOES AND NO ONE WOULD HAVE NOTICED, it's crazy! Eventually an employee realized he was at work at decided to ring me up. There was no "did you find everything okay" "did you have any questions" NOTHING. In the end I decided to just leave the pair and not buy anything. It's the principle. NO ONE deserves to be treated like they don't exist , especially when they are your consumer. I was there to buy 2 pairs of shoes , and although it might not mean much to the company , but I refuse to refer anyone to this location. I came here to buy some sports outfit. I'm planning to start my exercise tomorrow but I need to have an outfit for me to comfortable to exercise. When I enter some staff assisted me. They have lot of shoes that placed in the side area that attached on the wall. At the middle part they have along table that lots of chairs. It's comfortable to sit since the chairs was soft. At some area they have sportswear. There's a lot of great products. The quality was good and it was really comfortable to wear. I bought a shoes with a color of blue, violet and white. I purchased a pair of Karhu Ihoni 2.0 shoes last fall from the South Loop Fleet Feet store. I wore them one time and then put them away in my closet. I pulled them out to wear in the spring and after a couple of wearings something in what was likely the midsole broke down and a popping sound happened in both shoes. They no longer had proper support. I took them in to the store in Elmhurst to see about making a return and since they said it had been well beyond their 60 day return policy i was stuck with them. They told me that it was a design problem that has since been addressed and in later models the shoe has been made differently. I am stuck with a pair of shoes that I jogged and walked about 12 miles in and will donate somewhere I'm sure they'd be fine for someone who wears them to sit all day---they will keep someone's feet warm and as long as someone doesn't move around too much they won't be driven nuts feeling the squish and hearing the popping sound with every step. This was not a customer changing their mind about purchasing shoes because of the look of fit; they were DEFECTIVE SHOES and should not have been limited to the 60 day return policy. I would never buy a pair of that brand again and I won't be returning to Fleet Feet for another purchase. read more

I placed an online order for a pair of shoes that are in high demand and difficult to find in stores. I felt fortunate to find a pair in my size. A week later the shipping status hadn't updated so I emailed the store only to be told that my order had been cancelled due to "security reasons", that they could not confirm I was the legitimate cardholder (they could have emailed or phoned to check on this) and that the order may be used for resale (untrue; this pair of shoes is for me and me only). So the result was that I waited for a week for an order that they had no intention of fulfilling, and I was notified only because I contacted them to enquire about the shipping status. This is a poor business practice and disrespectful towards your customer base. There are numerous other stores that are more deserving of our business. read more

I didn't know you needed to "sign in" when you get into the store because no one was at the front when I walked in. I went in to pick up my bib for a race and just wanted to try on a shoe that was a half size bigger. I sat on one of the benches like an idiot. It would have been nice if the other workers there would have told me to sign in or whatever it took to try on a pair of shoes . I waited an hour for my appointment and when I asked them how much longer (the shop was too close in 30 minutes) they told me that they would probably not have time for me. I noticed that some of the workers had disappeared in the back of the store and it ended up that they were hiding back there to avoid helping customers. Ok, now I get what all the hype is about. Not only was I helped by the amazing Andres for more than an hour, but I came out with an amazing pair of shoes, inserts to fix problems I've had for decades, & a ton of new knowledge. We started with a digital mapping of my feet and ankles, which confirmed the problems I already knew I had (thanks dad, for the crappy flat feet). Also, I had it emailed to me, so I now have something to compare all future scans to so I can make sure things aren't getting worse. Andres then matched me with several pairs of running shoes and cross trainers, explaining why he chose each one. He was patient while I tried two pairs on for a second, hell, even a third time. After I decided on a pair of running shoes, the next step was the insert. After I found one I liked, Andres cut it to fit the shoe I chose. Thank god, because you know I would've f'd that up. Overall, I don't know how I could ever go anywhere else. The service was super personalized, I learned a ton, and I found more than one shoe I liked, which is damn near impossible with me. Andres was even cool enough to write down the second pair of shoes and inserts I was considering, so next time I stop by I can just grab them and go. I came to Fleet feet because I heard that they measure your feet to determine the best shoe fit for you. They had me stand on a scale like device which measured the arches, length, and width of my feet. After the sales rep had me walk around for a little bit to see which way I walked. Every once in a while the best value isn't the best price. I'll admit that I'm a bargain shopper; I am diligent about finding the best price after I've identified what I need. I'll also admit that when I walked into Fleet Feet, I had a strong idea of what shoe I needed and knew exactly where to find it cheaper. I fully intended to quickly try them on and buy my shoes from the online retailer, but things didn't exactly work out that way. I was fortunate to have a short wait for a shoe person; if you're used to walking into a store, buying a running shoe because it's cute, cool or brand new, this is not that kind of a store. Being properly fit for a shoe, especially one you'll be using for high impact activities, is immensely important; the wrong shoes can be the source of a lot of needless pain and discomfort. When my number was called, I explained that I had been fit at FF before, but since my original fitting I started wearing prescription orthotics, which was why my podiatrist was recommending a neutral shoe. The guy I worked with was great; we discussed my running routine and he brought me the shoes my podiatrist recommended along with a few other neutral shoes to compare them against. He examined the fit, noting that he disagreed with the size I said I needed (he was right - I had told him a 1/2 size too small), and had me run in each pair on the treadmill to see what fit best. I ended up liking the pair recommended by my doctor, but was glad I tested out other options. When I was done he asked if I had interest in having a a female associate fit me for a sports bra. I was glad I decided to get fit; the associate that helped me was very knowledgeable. I told her what sports bra features I liked and didn't; she measured me, noted which bras ran big and small, which ones were best for high impact activities, the ones best suited for my body type, and what to look for in terms of correct fit. This was definitely the most informed sports bra purchase I've made. I may have been able to get both of my purchases a bit cheaper elsewhere, but I felt the time, attention and expertise I received was the best value for my money. TIP: The store has a points program and gives a discount to CARA members. TIP: If you're happy with you current shoes, they keep the data stored in their computer so you don't have to wait in line when it's time for a new pair of shoes. If you're unhappy with the fit of your shoes, they have a 30 day return policy (provided the shoes are still in good condition). read more

I really like that they do an assessment of your shoe so you know what your shoe size and type is. However, this store seems to be for more serious athletes. I remember telling the person fitting me that I didn't like the color of the shoe and she gave me a dirty look. I'll probably go to dicks from now on. I've been to fleet feet personally. I had a great experience and had great service. However, this review is a reflection on my fathers experience. My father who's in his 60s came in today looking for some new shoes. He's been taking his health more seriously and was wanting to get good shoes to step up his fitness game. The associates had him waiting for an hour and 12 minutes. He was completely ignored and when it was time to help him the associate decided to go on break. My father did show frustration, but if you were ignored and left waiting for over an hour, you'd be frustrated too. I recommend this store to my father and the fact he was treated so poorly really rubs me the wrong way. I will never shop here and advise anyone over the age of 40 should not shop here either.
