This past Saturday I went in to the Kihei shop and was the only customer, along with my husband who sat down to wait for me. We were not greeted or helped. The gal who worked there just kept putting clothes on the racks and acted as if I was invisible. I live in Wailuku and we drove special to Kihei to visit Mahina so I could get outfits for some special upcoming events. I had a bunch of things to try on and had to ask the sales gal to try things on. The only thing she said to me on my visit was, "You can pick any room." After trying on what I had, I was going to purchase a cute dress I liked. When I walked out of the dressing room I received no acknowledgment from the sales gal, not even a "how was it?" Just terrible service. I ended up putting everything back on the racks MYSELF and my husband and I walked out. I am a 53 year old professional woman and was planning on spending a lot of money that day in Mahina, a store I love. I felt so horrible. My husband was in shock at how I was treated. I will never go back there again.

After making my purchase they were even nice enough to throw some candy and a puka shell necklace for free. A nice touch. Well, we just returned and an older lady looked at us and went back to watching her tv. She didn't say anything to us at all. She started talking and laughing on the phone, so we know she can talk. She paused to look at us again, then went back to her phone call. We walked out and decided to give our business elsewhere. I'm not sure yet if we will return. I have to think about where I spend my hard earned money and I prefer to spend it with people who value their customers with common decency. When you first walk in, you are treated by lots of local art in vibrant colors. In the back there are cases with eclectic jewelry, many pieces from local artists. There are goddess style dresses, t-shirts and small gift items. Their perfumed oils are heavenly. The prices are on the high end, but this is a tourist mall and the items are unique. I've been searching for a pair of Sterling and Larimar earrings to match a gorgeous pendant and ring I have. Larimar is a sky blue stone from the Dominican Republic. It's rare and very very striking. Most earrings are small drops but I like long dangling earrings that make a statement. I found them here and didn't hesitate to by them immediately! The stones are large and a perfect shade of sky blue hanging from a curved hook so they hang at cheek level. Perfect! They were $138 and I already treasure them. Wish this shop had more jewelry, gifts and clothes! A gem amongst the stores at this mall. The woman waiting on me was super friendly and we easily engaged in conversation. I'll be back!

The quality of clothing is terrible, but I have no choice so I proceeded to shop. When I went to check out, they told me they would not accept my credit card because I did not have a picture ID. Not carrying my entire purse to the beach, of course I did not have it. It was not as much what they said, but how they said it. Demeaning and disrespectful. Telling me that all others find it necessary for their safety, and what was wrong with me. Laughing at me and raising their voices. It was both employees there. They might hate their job or hate tourists. But please don't take it out on us.

Instead, I ended up finding the regularly-priced shirt I passed up on at their Ala Moana Center location as my second ever purchase. SERVICE: The sole, young gal working was friendly, professional and even walked my bag around to me from behind the counter. Very classy. The only other time that happened was at Nordstrom Ala Moana.
