What a great place that begins a few feet before you get to the door and the staff have opened it for you. When dining here, I enjoy the superbly prepared food, a very high level of attention and a cozy, classy and quaint atmosphere. The restaurant is small but the food taste is large. Before I describe my courses, there were many bonus bites, starting with an amuse bouche and then other small and wonderful taste surprises between the courses. Had the small, bite-size food gifts been a full course, I would have been quite content. For example, one plate of small tasty delights had 5 items to enjoy. That little dishes included quail egg, beet, steak tartar, stuffed corn cakes, avocado mousse and corn jam and some creamy pistachio. There was also the delicate and frothy egg yolk with a ginger and carrot salad. I was also given a surprise small portion of delectable soup, which was root vegetable-based with a truffle cream dollop on top. I enjoyed the carrot and rich parsnip flavors in that soup. Of course, there was some fresh warm bread with a yummy, garlicky butter. i had a glass of champagne whcih had a light, clean grassy taste with an nice acidic bitterness. My three courses on the Prix Fixe menu started with the Tagliatelle aux fruits de mer parfumee a la truffle. This seafood pasta dish, with a truffle accent, was a wonderful balance between the earthy flavor and the slightly sweet and perfectly-seared scallops. The next course was a Bourride de fruits de mer. This dish is a seafood stew in a tomato soup. As usual, the flavor combination is so sublime and so interesting on the tongue. The soup arrived with a slice of flavorful garlic bread, perched above the bowl which was holding fresh seafood on the surface. The final course was La bombe au chocolat. This is a rich dark chocolate and raspberry mousse in a deep hot chocolate sauce. Of course, the chef was so kind in sending out another bonus dish with a type of of kouign-amann, a wonderfully tasty lime tart and yummy chocolate truffles in the center. Our dinner at Fleurie was absolutely flawless. As someone dining with a friend who has Celiac disease, I cannot praise the kitchen enough for their incredible accommodation. They made her feel completely safe and included by providing an experience just as elevated and refined as the standard menu. ​We began with a beautiful progression of hors d'oeuvres and a silky lobster bisque, followed by perfectly seared scallops. For the main courses, the venison was tender and masterfully seasoned, while the lobster was a delicate and buttery triumph. ​The in-between courses really set this restaurant apart. We loved the thoughtful amuse-bouche to start and the chocolate pre-dessert that served as the perfect bridge to our final courses. We finished with a dramatic Chocolate Bomb and a classic Grand Marnier Crème Brûlée, followed by a lovely plate of mignardises to close the evening. ​Fleurie is the gold standard for French dining in Charlottesville. My memory of this restaurant didn't match this visit. We came to Cville on a wine tour. We came to this restaurant for wine pairings -- but our server never asked if we wanted them. I had to stop her at the bar to say I did. No one asked my wine preferences, and two of the three pairings were Sauternes and Port (not my thing). I didn't even touch the Port, and no one asked why. $79 for 3 pours . I should have bought a bottle. Foie gras to start? Delicious. Lobster carbonara? Fresh pasta, but the lobster was so overcooked it could've bounced off the floor. My husband wanted me to send it back, but I didn't -- worried they'd just say it was fine. (My issue, maybe.) He had the lamb and loved it. Dessert for me was fromage, but I was too full to eat it. There were canapés, amuse-bouche, little spoons, and desserts -- the highlight was a single bite of beet with truffle goat cheese. First time here Naundi was our waitress and she took great care of us! The portions here are large so bring an appetite! Also dress to impress as this is not a casual dining. We celebrated our anniversary and the staff listened to my reservation notes and had a lovely bottle of champagne waiting for us upon arrival! The lobster bisque was amazing and fillied me up! The seafood on the entree risotto was cooked to perfection and was the star of the show! The scallops were melt in your mouth and sweet flavored (very fresh) The squid ink risotto was grainy and to my estimation about 85% cooked and too undercooked for my palate. My husband and I belatedly celebrated our wedding anniversary. It was a culinary extravaganza! The atmosphere of Fleurie is warm and inviting. The entire staff is very friendly and attentive. Details are carefully thought out. The Prix Fixe dinner comes with many add ons between courses, so what appears to be a three course meal is actually seven courses. We began with delicious rosemary focaccia with herb infused olive oil. Then a tray of delicious small bites arrived at our table. It was beautifully crafted. I had the chef's special for my hors d'oeuvre course, asparagus and cervaux. My husband had the lobster bisque. This course was followed by an oyster ice cream palette cleanser. Then, a creative "amuse bouche" was a vichyssoise with super finely minced carrots and ginger, and a special sauce served in an egg shell. For the main course I had a delicious Corbin's, a buttery fish, with yellow squash and a tomato mixture, presented like a painting. My husband had the chef's special which was Beef Wellington. He loved it and ate every bite. The desserts continued the wonderful culinary experience. I had a delicious pastry with berries and my husband had a fruit cheese cake. I would give this a 3.5 actually. The 4.5 for service it was on point. We were seated promptly upon walking in for our reservation. Never had to wait for service. The appetizers and extra canapés were awesome and very tasty. I only say a 3.5 based on my lobster meal, was not warm, had no flavor, and actually felt raw. Everyone else said they loved their meal. We had the wine pairing and it was hit or miss even after saying no more sweet wines. The bar area is very dark. I just... don't get it. The alley light has food that is as good and better, for more reasonable prices and a FAR better atmosphere. The food here was very hit or miss, with some very tasty amuse bouches and other small bites and entrees that fell short. WHAT the heck happened to my favorite restaurant? When we go to Fleurie and we do often, I understand I will spend hundreds of dollars to have a creative, artful, great quality dining experience. However, the past couple of times I dined at Fleurie the food was very disappointing. I keep coming back thinking it's a one off. But no its not. This week the scallops were raw almost sushi, the diced broccoli side tasted moldy, the entree short ribs were all fat fat fat. I left both the appetizer scallops and short ribs entree on the plate! The saddest part is the server didn't even ask why we left our food behind. I am very sad that my favorite restaurant is no longer an option for anniversaries, birthdays, or just a needed night out for us. Please fix this and go back as you were. Fleurie never ceases to amaze. This is my third time here, and the food, service, and ambiance do not disappoint. It is the quintessential old-school fine dining, with servers in black suits, coat checks, white table clothes, candlelight, and a comprehensive menu. The prix-fixe menu is a three-course menu with an appetizer, entree, and a dessert, but they also brought us canapés all throughout the meals that are so delicate. My glass is never empty for more than a minute; the servers are quick to pour. The sea bass entree I ordered was fresh, crisp, and flavorful. What I really love is the presentation of food. Terrible experience. Food was gross and cold. We arrived at 7:40 and did not get food till 9:32. I ended up eating microwave burgers at 10:11! Here is full story: We had reservations at 8. I'm an early is on time sort of person do we arrive at 7:40. The hostess said your table is not ready yet... unless you want to sit there...(pointing to a small table in front of hostess area and near door. I ask, "which table is our table?" She states she is going to ask the manager... then the manager comes and directs us to the small table in front of the hostess area. Sure... not a big deal but this rubbed me the wrong way. Next we had some less than ideal drink experiences... but nothing to write about really. Not a big deal. Then we wait... and wait... and wait. We watch other couples come in and be seated at tables that looked open on our arrival. They get service and get food... we wait. And wait... and wait... we arrived at 7:40 btw. Our food is not delivered till 9:32. I also wonder if the manager heard me telling my wife that if the food is not there by 9:45 we are leaving! As I was not quite in this announcement and he was nearby. Our food finally arrived. My steak was very cold. Almost like I had arrived at 7:40 and the food was done at 8... but they just left it out on the counter. Further, it tasted terrible. Thinking about it now makes me want to puke. The meat tasted old like maybe they cooked it 3 days ago and left it on the counter and the flies were digging in... then the manager said... get them their food hurry.... Grab the rotten steak w flies on it! I regret to admit I ate the corners of this disgusting steak after sitting in this restaurant for 2 hours. .. I regret these actions but I was hungry...see the picture. But I stopped there. Tried Fleurie twice now. Once via take home during 2022, and once in-person last month. Take home experience was great. This was before Jose de Brito rejoined Fleurie. It was so good, and we've been eager to eat there again. Last month, we did. It was just alright. Prix fixe menu. The lobster was not good (overly chewy), the filet was flavorless. Some of the chef-provided bites were good, but overall we didn't love the meal. Such a bummer as we were so looking forward to it as an anniversary treat. The one saving grace was a pistachio dessert that was very good. I'd come back for that, but the rest, probably not. Wore snow pants in preparation--good thing too because it was freezing cold and snow kept falling from the tent onto the heater and exploding over me in shocking ways--but a French adventure!! We had the prixe fixe with reserve wine pairings, so it was not an inexpensive meal--strange in this time to pay so much for exploding snow ambience... but the food was quite delicious, they gave little extras throughout the meal, and the wine was good too. The best dishes IMHO were the mushroom app with poached egg (I'm going to make it at home), the lobster bisque, the amuse bouche starters and the apple tart. Came here for a late Valentine's Day dinner and was happy to finally try this place. The atmosphere is upscale yet cozy with candle-lit seating and nice table linens. I will say the two person tables are seated very close to each other which is not my favorite thing in the world (found myself trying to tune out the conversations on either side of me the whole time), but it is a smaller restaurant so i guess that is to be expected. The food was a mixture of absolutely amazing dishes and just "meh" dishes that were a bit of a letdown. For the appetizer I got the foie gras ($15 upcharge) which I think is the best bite I have ever had in my life... ridiculously good and melt in your mouth. I am still dreaming about it lol. I got the poached lobster for my entree which was not as stellar sadly -- lobster was overcooked and rubbery and the pasta lacked flavor. My boyfriend said his roasted duck breast was also very chewy. For the dessert we split the baked Alaska (great tableside show, veryyy alcoholic tasting) and crème brûlée (pretty standard). I absolutely loved the extra goodies that they brought us in between the main courses which were delicious and inventive. And I wasn't expecting it at all so it was a really fun surprise since we didn't know what was coming! Some were great and some were just okay (a few of the savory bites were really salty for my taste) but overall it made the meal feel more like an experience which I really enjoyed. Pro: nice staff, knowledgeable about the foods, desserts were good, and you get a lot of food in between your actual meals Cons: it's VERY expensive (it was around $220 for two full meals with drinks), food to me was just okay but not worth what we paid, some older lady that worked there kept going to the table and talking next to us and standing like right next to me while I was eating which was slightly annoying, and my husband kept getting hit with cold air every time someone opened the door (maybe consider adding another divider to block the tables behind the check in area in the winter) so I recommend getting a table closer to the kitchen. Overall, it's not a place I would actively seek to make reservations for. I recommend it for maybe a dessert and drink but that's about it. read more

But there were maybe 3, 4 of them?? (Um bonus food count me in!!) they also made a point to print out a menu to celebrate the occasion of my friends birthday. For food it was all good, I ordered a dish I would never normally order (vegetarian) and it would be hard to not order it ~when~ I go back. We also got small plates of other various dishes, meats, cheeses, fish. Every single plate was great, I cannot even explain it. The flavors were amazing. They hit every detail perfectly! During a search for highly rated restaurants in Charlottesville we happened on this one. It's our 20th wedding anniversary and we wanted something a little different. Boy were we pleasantly surprised! This far exceeded our expectations! They personalized a menu for us which I thought was sweet. We jumped right in and also went for the reserve wine pairings as we had not done that either. Melissa, the somalier (educated wine professional if you didn't know), paired the wines perfectly. I mean every wine was perfectly suited to the dish - every single one. The food was amazing - I had beef tenderloin and it was the absolutely perfect. My husband had the lamb and it was outstanding as well. Even the new girl they were training was great! Dessert was great - creme brûlée paired with a uniquely outstanding 20 year tawny port could not have been any better. The 90s R&B drifting down from the neighboring Soul Food restaurant was great compliment to our fine dining experience - not your typical "stuffy" fine dining! The unrefined need not apply. Fle's menu and website are as terse as its portions. Curtly and cutely, the host accepts your jacket and offers you a cool reception. These perfunctory gestures scantly hide the tension in the room--a tension fitting Faye Dunnaway in Mommie Dearest. The restaurant's title warrants an interpreter. Join me as I interpret for you (your on your own as to a competent pronunciation interpreter). At the tiny table, I noticed the flower arrangements despite the dark, and ordered the tasting menu (at $95 a pop). Course 1: A little grey cookie with dark shredded duck piled on. Taste-translation: a triscuit with unseasoned pulled pork on top. Course 2: A round foi gras looking like a cat's fancy feast, some brown liquid running from it, a french-version of pico de gallo, and a brick of an italian bread. Taste-translation: Cold, greasy butter, sour veggies, crunchy bread (texas-toast equivalent). Course 3: A half-moon shaped cold and clear jelly slice with a bite of rabbit and a couple green leaves mixed in. Reminiscent of the clear jelly you discover on a grocery-store rotisserie chicken you left in the fridge. Taste-translation: Tasteless jelly, butter, and damn-fine rabbit mixed in. Course 4: Two little lobster slices hovering over a white-peppercorn looking gravy with a little yellow butter pyramid. Taste-translation: DELICIOUS red lobster perfectly cooked. The gravy and the pyramid tasted like...yes- butter. Course 5: A chicken leg and slice of chicken breast on a pile of cabbage on a swirled plate of sauces. Taste-translation: WOW---possibly the best chicken I've ever had on this continent. That chef has his chicken game down to a an exact science. It tasted better than the best pork belly you've ever had but not quite as good as the best mid-morning fried-chicken runs as a hungover undergrad. Course 6: Perfectly-cooked (medium rare) duck meat that would make you scream. The three little slices are plopped atop a yellow mix and accompany a little bread thing filled with something peculiar. Taste-translation: Duck was down and dirty with the flavor profile of a tex-mex fajita. Sauce and little bread thing was basically butter. The narrative's remainder consisted of a little dish of icecream and a carrot cake. Both were equivalent of anything you can shop for at Kroger. The clientele always reveals the restaurant's target audience. This simple but powerful truth carries with it implications in society, class, and culture. Let's just say, I was not at home here and I would never be hired here. I'll take my rotisserie chicken over that rabbit jelly any day. read more
