This is an excellent restaurant. We've been once to the dining room for our anniversary, and stopped in another time at the bar. It's intimate, romantic and just lovely. The food is exquisite--we still talk about the scallop offering we had last September. And the drinks and dessert at the bar were perfection. Service each time has been welcoming and professional but easy going. My only complaint is that I don't live closer! If you're in Gordonsville, it's a must to stop in. Enjoy it! read more

TY Andrew and team, great meal for 4 with superb food, excellent starter cocktails for the table (the beet boulevadier was great) and strong finish with the Chai Cake with sauce Anglais. Three enjoyed the rockfish while I devoured the Duck Confit with braised beans, arugula and kohlrabi. TY for the attention to detail and letting the group enjoy themselves. Hope to meet the chef. Just walked out of the bar shortly after 715pm after being told the chef had cut off bar food orders (except dessert) to focus on dinner service. Evidently bar customers are not as important. For additional context, there were five tables dining in the restaurant section when we walked out. Super disappointing especially since the first experience we had here in the dining room was exceptional. read more

WOW WOW WOW. We saw their menu on Instagram and thought it would be a nice change from the restaurants in Richmond. It was awesome!!!! There is a set menu with 2 choices for each course. So my wife and I ordered one of everything. Was pleasantly impressed with items we would not have normally eaten that were absolutely delicious. Well worth the price!! Worth the drive! Last night I had probably one of the top dining experiences since moving to Virginia 25+ years ago. Reservations are a must at this cozy fine dining spot on Gordonsville's main street not far from Charlottesville and the menu changes monthly. Andrew made us feel welcomed, each dish was brought out in a timely manner--not rushed nor any excessive wait time between each course-the dining service was a natural calm flow that made us feel relaxed as the wood-burning fireplace crackled nearby. The tables are aptly spaced so you have a nice sense of privacy in the main dining room. Each course was brilliant in its creativity, plating, and very flavorful. The scallops were the best I have ever tasted, the venison perfectly cooked, and the Bay Leaf flan was unique--a nice change from desserts that are excessively sweet. And....coffee was a true European style coffee with crema on the top! Portion sizes were perfect and at times I felt like I was back in Paris as this restaurant is definitely French-inspired! They have a large selection of wines and a wine pairing for each course however they kindly accommodated our request for alcohol-free by serving us Sparkling Cider. The price was very reasonable for this caliber of dining & for relaxed, not stuffy, warm hospitality from the restaurant's owners, family, & staff. I shall definitely be returning again soon! After months of following their drool-worthy posts on social media, I finally had the opportunity to visit Près des Prés over Valentine's Day, and it did not disappoint! I've seen reviews from others indicating that the portion sizes left them hungry, and I'm not certain how much those few people are used to consuming, but my husband and I were both pleasantly full by the end of five courses (we added the bread and butter as well as a dessert, and I was too full to finish the dessert). Each course was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious; it's clear that they put a significant amount of time, thought, and love into preparing their monthly menus. My husband is a vegetarian (and a picky one at that), and they were more than accommodating and didn't skip a beat in dreaming up dishes that were creative, beautiful, and so tasty that I kept stealing bites from him. I also appreciate that it's very much a family-run establishment and not at all stuffy or pretentious; the atmosphere is lovely, and having the homey touch makes it even more appealing. My only regret was that I was too full to go over to their bar afterward and add on the French onion soup, which looks incredible. We will be back to try more! read more

A farm to table gourmet experience. Chef is an artist with very refined sensibility for mixing flavors and te tires that take dishes to another dimension. Presents dishes beautifully and creatively and proportions are just right. The bartender and her original mixed drinks or variation or classics make this place a destination on their own. Food was very tasty, but the portions were tiny. Owners were kind and service was great. Perhaps it was the muscadine wine that threw me, but the wine pairing was not worth it. Trust me. read more

The fabulous experience began the minute we entered the quaint little space with 10 or so tables, a roaring fire, a fresh Christmas Tree from the owners farm and the perfect amount of Christmas decorations. The greeting we received was genuine in its enthusiasm for the experience we were about to have. They explain the pre set menu in detail and give you room to review the drink menu before you order. They are able to explain and recommend pairings based on your likes and food choices and even replaced a wine that we did not care for. At no point were we rushed. In fact, they encouraged conversation and spending the time to enjoy. The squash soup was an amazing burst of flavors that we are still thinking about. The second course was equally flavorful and generous in its proportions, but the shining star was the Scallop and lemon salsify pasta. To say it was one of the best scallop dishes we have ever eaten is not an exaggeration. There are so many things we could say about it, but you will have to try for yourself. We ended up being so full that we couldn't eat dessert, but watched others sigh over theirs. We would highly recommend an evening here and look forward to our next visit. read more

This restaurant just recently opened. The food is really good. The wine list needs a little attention. The only Bordeaux I found to order was a 2021 which was way too young to drink. It's also missing more traditional sparking choices like a cremant which is super common in France. I'd recommend they partner with someone familiar with French wines as France has some of the most amazing wines which were missed on the wine list. Again this is a newly opened restaurant so I suspect they'll be fine tuning things as they go but it's definitely worth trying. They have a bar area where you can grab a cocktail/beer/wine and then a more formal dining area which I'd recommend making reservations for. The staff was friendly. So nice to see this long vacant spot backfilled and filled with new life - wishing the restaurant much success! read more

This is an extraordinary and long overdue upgrade to the Gordonsville area restaurant scene. Many of us have waited for a worthy successor to Pomme, celebrated the short-lived Rochambeau, and sadly resumed counting the years until the space was again fully realized. It is now fully realized. By focusing on a select few dishes each season, Chef Abby provides an exquisite journey through a prix fixe menu ideal for a couple to share. Two dishes per course, so a couple can order literally everything on the menu and enjoy sharing (or, in my case, hoarding) each course. Expect imagination, innovation, and surprise throughout, with a small but also focused wine list ideal for pairing throughout. By the time you read this, the menu items we enjoyed may be but a memory - with a new menu likely coming this Fall. So while I could describe the dishes - for example, the scallops that appeared on the menu as simply accompanied by "carrot, celery, apple?" Turns out this resulted in delightful sushi-grade scallops atop an iced relish of these other elements! How often do you encounter a dish where you have to intentionally slow down to ensure you savor - when scarfing is the natural reflex? At Près de Prés, that will be your experience Every Time.
